PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between hepatic metastasis and the mean diameter of the 10 largest nucleoli (MLN) in uveal melanoma.
METHODS: A cross-sectional histopathological analysis of 37 metastases (13 surgical or needle biopsies, 24 autopsies) and corresponding primary choroidal and ciliary body melanomas was conducted, using statistical tests appropriate for paired data. BACKGROUND: Although intraocular osseous metaplasia is a well-known phenomenon, ossification of the lens is a rare phenomenon nowadays.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: An enucleated phthisical eye showed a rock-hard intraocular particle. Lens status after a trauma 36 years ago had been unclear. Differential diagnosis included an intraocular foreign body or ossification of the lens. X-ray diffraction analysis showed microcrystalline apatite indicating a mineralized structure. Histologic specimens revealed a mineralized lens that underwent secondary osseous metaplasia.

Ocular Vibrio vulnificus infections are quite rare, and all previously reported cases have been associated with exposure to seafood and seawater. Here, we report a case of endogenous endophthalmitis caused by V. vulnificus, occurring after the ingestion of raw seafood. This case was not associated with any cutaneous or other severe systemic manifestations.

Ectopia lentis may be a feature of numerous systemic and ocular disorders. Kivela and Tarkkanen described an 8-year-old girl with medulloepithelioma who presented with ectopia lentis and a mass behind the temporal iris. Shields reported 2 children with medulloepithelioma who had ectopia lentis associated with neovascular glaucoma. To date, there has been no report of a child with ectopia lentis as the only presentation of an intraocular tumor. We present 2 children with malignant medulloepitheliomas who presented in this fashion.

Medulloepithelioma of the ciliary body is an uncommon intraocular tumor occurring during the first year of life. Malignant degeneration may occur. We report the case of a 4-year-old child who presented medulloepithelioma of the left eye disclosed by oesotropia at 2 years of age. Clinically, there was oesotropia, positive light perception and cataract with vascular membrane spreading to the nasal side of the irido-corneal angle. BACKGROUND: Post-enucleation socket syndrome (PESS: deep upper lid sulcus, ptosis or upper lid retraction, enophthalmos and lower lid laxity) is a well-recognised complication of a volume-deficient anophthalmic socket. A patient requiring enucleation following severe ocular trauma may have an underlying orbital wall blow-out fracture which if overlooked can cause severe volume deficit with poor cosmesis and limited prosthesis motility.
