OBJECTIVES: Population-based screening for glaucoma has been demonstrated to be cost-effective if targeted at high-risk groups such as older adults and those with a family history of glaucoma, and through use of a technician for conducting initial assessment rather than a medical specialist. PURPOSE: We describe a patient with primary angle-closure glaucoma who developed malignant glaucoma following laser peripheral iridotomy.
METHODS: A 58-year-old male presented with peripheral and central anterior chamber shallowing following an uncomplicated Nd: YAG laser peripheral iridotomy. Intraocular pressure (IOP) and B-scan echography were normal, and there was -1.5 Ddiopter asymmetric myopia. Despite treatment with aqueous suppression and cycloplegia for 7 months, the patient developed progressive myopic shift and anterior chamber shallowing.

PURPOSE: To compare characteristics of functioning blebs (FBs) and nonfunctioning blebs (NFBs) with en-face spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT).
METHODS: We evaluated 41 blebs of 38 patients after a first-time trabeculectomy. Eyes were classified into 2 groups: FBs (22 eyes) and NFBs (19 eyes). En-face OCT images were analyzed semiquantitatively for the density of intraepithelial microcysts (0 to 3), internal fluid-filled cavity (0 to 3), and bleb vascularization (0 to 2). BACKGROUND: The "true" prevalence and clinical attributes of exfoliation glaucoma remain controversial. The authors studied these characteristics in glaucoma patients requiring trabeculectomy.
METHODS: One hundred consecutive patients undergoing trabeculectomy for open-angle glaucoma were investigated by clinical examination (biomicroscopy and gonioscopy) and classified into three categories: exfoliation glaucoma, possible exfoliation glaucoma, and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). A definitive diagnosis of exfoliation glaucoma was provided by pathologic examination of iris tissue.

METHODS: Retrospective case series study. The clinical and pathological data of 7 cases of massive sub-retinal hemorrhage which were examined in the Pathological Department of Tianjin Eye Hospital from May 1988 to April 2012 were collected.
