Birth cohort-specific consideration in an Emergency Department Hepatitis C Testing Programme: A description of age-related characteristics and outcomes.

The emergency department (ED) has increasingly become an important public health partner in non-targeted hepatitis C virus (HCV) testing and referral to care efforts. HCV has traditionally been an infection associated with the Baby Boomer generation; however, recent exacerbation of the opioid epidemic has resulted in a growing number of younger cohorts, namely Millennials, also impacted by HCV. Examination of this age-related demographic shift, including subsequent linkage success and linkage barriers, from the perspective of an ED-based testing and linkage programme may have implications for

Hearing impairment and risk of dementia in The HUNT Study (HUNT4 70+): a Norwegian cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Hearing impairment is strongly associated with future dementia. No studies have reported objectively measured hearing impairment in a cohort with a long period of follow-up (>20 years), and few have reported follow-up over 10 years. Hence, there is a need for high quality studies with sufficient follow-up time and data to account for reverse causality and confounding. We aimed to address this knowledge gap. METHODS: This cohort study used individual participant data from The Trøndelag Health Study (HUNT) in Norway. All current residents aged at least 20 years in the former Norwegi

Patient-centered care in Israeli IVF units: divergent perceptions of patients and providers.

BACKGROUND: Patient-centered care is particularly important for patients undergoing fertility treatment because of their emotional involvement and their constant contact with providers. To the best of our knowledge, to date, there have been no rigorous studies of the discrepancies between the patients' perceptions of the care they received and the providers' perceptions of the care that they provided, in specific dimensions and elements of patient-centered care. OBJECTIVE: To compare provider and patient perceptions of the extent to which care in Israeli IVF units is patient-centered. METHOD

The use of outpatient commitment in Norway: Who are the patients and what does it involve?

PURPOSE: Despite one of the longest histories of using Outpatient Commitment (OC), little is known about the use in the Norwegian context. Reporting from the Norwegian Outpatient Commitment Study, this article aims to: establish the profile of the OC population in Norway; ascertain the legal justification for the use of OC and what OC involves for patients; investigate possible associations between selected patient and service characteristics and duration of OC, and; explore potential differences based on gender or rurality. METHODS: A retrospective multi-site study, extracting data from the

Maltreatment during childhood: a risk factor for the development of endometriosis?

STUDY QUESTION: Is maltreatment during childhood (MC), e.g. sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse and neglect, associated with diagnosis of endometriosis? SUMMARY ANSWER: Childhood sexual abuse, emotional abuse/neglect and inconsistency experiences were associated with the diagnosis of endometriosis while no such association was found for physical abuse/neglect and other forms of maltreatment. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Symptoms of endometriosis such as chronic pelvic pain, fatigue and depression, are correlated with MC, as are immune reactions linked to endometriosis. These factors supp

[Recognition, care and prevention of suicidal behaviour in adults].

UNLABELLED: Suicide is a major public health problem everywhere in the world and in the WHO European Region suicide accounts for over 120,000 deaths per year. 1. Recognition and diagnosis: An underlying psychiatric disorder is present in up to 90% of people who completed suicide. Comorbidity with depression, anxiety, substance abuse and personality disorders is high. In order to achieve successful prevention of suicidality, adequate diagnostic procedures and appropriate treatment for the underlying disorder are essential. 2. Treatment and care: Acute intervention should start immediately in or

A Single-blinded, Randomized Clinical Trial of How to Implement an Evidence-based Treatment for Generalized Anxiety Disorder [IMPLEMENT]--Effects of Three Different Strategies of Implementation.

BACKGROUND: Despite long-standing calls to disseminate evidence-based treatments for generalized anxiety (GAD), modest progress has been made in the study of how such treatments should be implemented. The primary objective of this study was to test three competing strategies on how to implement a cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT) for out-patients with GAD (i.e., comparison of one compensation vs. two capitalization models). METHODS: For our three-arm, single-blinded, randomized controlled trial (implementation of CBT for GAD [IMPLEMENT]), we recruited adults with GAD using advertisements i

Examination of the neighborhood activation theory in normal and hearing-impaired listeners.

OBJECTIVE: Experiments were conducted to examine the effects of lexical information on word recognition among normal hearing listeners and individuals with sensorineural hearing loss. The lexical factors of interest were incorporated in the Neighborhood Activation Model (NAM). Central to this model is the concept that words are recognized relationally in the context of other phonemically similar words. NAM suggests that words in the mental lexicon are organized into similarity neighborhoods and the listener is required to select the target word from competing lexical items. Two structural char

Revelations from a meta database system on environmental health problems.

Harmful effects of environmental pollution to the health status of population is well-known to ecologists and experts on health sciences. However, prevention and protection against such direct environmental hazards to save, or, in a worse case, re-establish the ecological balance are anything but successful. It is true, even if modern monitoring and measuring technology, adequate information systems, and related data bases are available. Precision of measurements and surveys, assessment and evaluation of the relationship between component elements of negative environmental effects on one the o

Staff's attitudes toward the delivery of tobacco cessation services in a primarily psychiatric Veterans Affairs hospital.

To prepare for improving the delivery of cessation services in a primarily psychiatric Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital, the investigators surveyed (n = 150) and interviewed (n = 8) clinical and nonclinical staff to determine staff's characteristics associated with attitudes about providing cessation services and to seek suggestions about what would be important to include in a tobacco cessation program. Almost one third reported that they currently use tobacco products. Almost three quarters said that they felt that the VA should be doing more to assist patients to quit smoking, yet only approx

Male microchimerism in females: a quantitative study of twin pedigrees to investigate mechanisms.

STUDY QUESTION: Does having a male co-twin, older brothers, or sons lead to an increased probability of persistent male microchimerism in female members of twin pedigrees? SUMMARY ANSWER: The presence of a male co-twin did not increase risk of male microchimerism and the prevalence of male microchimerism was not explained by having male offspring or by having an older brother. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Microchimerism describes the presence of cells within an organism that originate from another zygote and is commonly described as resulting from pregnancy in placental mammals. It is associated w

The clinical effectiveness of the Mind/Body Program for Infertility on wellbeing and assisted reproduction outcomes: a randomized controlled trial in search for active ingredients.

STUDY QUESTION: Does the Mind/Body Program for Infertility (MBPI) perform better, due to certain distinctive elements, than a partly matched support group in improving the wellbeing and medically assisted reproduction (MAR) outcomes of women with elevated distress levels in a clinical setting? SUMMARY ANSWER: While robust enhancements occurred in the wellbeing overall, the cognitive behavioural and formalized stress management elements of the MBPI allowed a significantly stronger improvement in trait anxiety, but not in other mental health and MAR outcomes, compared with a support group. Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in children born to mothers with infertility: a population-based cohort study.

STUDY QUESTION: Is the risk of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) increased in children born to mothers with infertility, or after receipt of fertility treatment, compared to mothers with unassisted conception? SUMMARY ANSWER: Infertility itself may be associated with ADHD in the offspring, which is not amplified by the use of fertility treatment. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Infertility, and use of fertility treatment, is common. The long-term neurodevelopmental outcome of a child born to a mother with infertility, including the risk of ADHD, remains unclear. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DUR

Mapping Practice-Based Signals of Generative AI in Psychiatric Care: Qualitative Study of Korean Psychiatrists' Experiences, Interpretations, and Implementation Priorities.

BACKGROUND: Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has increasingly entered psychiatric practice through patient-facing chatbots, self-help tools, and clinician-facing workflow support. Although prior research has examined clinicians' attitudes, readiness, and anticipated use cases, less is known about how frontline encounters with GenAI shape psychiatrists' interpretations and implementation priorities. Health care foresight also remains methodologically underdeveloped and has focused mainly on external signals, overlooking clinically consequential signals emerging from everyday practice.
