Transjugular endovascular recanalization of splenic vein in patients with regional portal hypertension complicated by gastrointestinal bleeding.

PURPOSE: Regional portal hypertension (RPH) is an uncommon clinical syndrome resulting from splenic vein stenosis/occlusion, which may cause gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding from the esophagogastric varices. The present study evaluated the safety and efficacy of transjugular endovascular recanalization of splenic vein in patients with GI bleeding secondary to RPH. METHODS: From December 2008 to May 2011, 11 patients who were diagnosed with RPH complicated by GI bleeding and had undergone transjugular endovascular recanalization of splenic vein were reviewed retrospectively. Contrast-enhanced co

Comparison of chest radiographs against minimum intensity projection reconstruction computed tomography scans for detection of airway stenosis in children with lymphobronchial tuberculosis.

BACKGROUND: Ideally, suspected airway compression in symptomatic children with lymphobronchial tuberculosis (TB) would be diagnosed using modern computed tomography (CT) assisted by coronal minimum intensity projection (MinIP) reconstructions. However, in TB-endemic regions with limited resources, practitioners rely on conventional radiography for diagnosing TB and its complications. Furthermore, airway compression detected on conventional radiographs would upgrade a patient into the severe category according to the new World Health Organization guidelines, precluding the patient from shorter

Image-based quantification of 3D morphology for bifurcations in the left coronary artery: Application to stent design.

BACKGROUND: Improved strategies for stent-based treatment of coronary artery disease at bifurcations require a greater understanding of artery morphology. OBJECTIVE: We developed a workflow to quantify morphology in the left main coronary (LMCA), left anterior descending (LAD), and left circumflex (LCX) artery bifurcations. METHODS: Computational models of each bifurcation were created for 55 patients using computed tomography images in 3D segmentation software. Metrics including cross-sectional area, length, eccentricity, taper, curvature, planarity, branching law parameters, and bifurcatio

Change in upper airway geometry between upright and supine position during tidal nasal breathing.

BACKGROUND: As the upper airway is the most important limiting factor for the deposition of inhalation medication in the lower airways, it is interesting to assess how its morphology varies between different postures. The goal of this study is to compare the upper airway morphology and functionality of healthy volunteers in the upright and supine positions during tidal nasal breathing and to search for baseline indicators for these changes. This is done by performing three-dimensional measurements on computed tomography (CT) and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans. METHODS: This prospe

Catalysing Artificial Intelligence for Paediatric Tuberculosis Research (CAPTURE): protocol for a global multicentre study establishing a paediatric chest X-ray repository to evaluate computer-aided detection algorithms.

INTRODUCTION: The substantial case detection gap in the field of child tuberculosis (TB) disease is largely driven by inadequate diagnostic tools and approaches. Chest radiographs (CXRs) remain a key component in the evaluation of children and young adolescents (0-15 years) with presumptive TB, aiding clinicians in making the diagnosis and discriminating children with TB from those with other diseases. Widespread use and optimal interpretation of CXR is hampered by a lack of access to well-trained specialists to interpret images. Artificial intelligence CXR interpretation software, termed comp

Comparative evaluation of large language model-based AI platforms for radiographic assessment in rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by progressive joint damage. Early diagnosis of this disease is crucial to prevent disability. The traditional interpretation of X-ray images in RA still depends heavily on radiologists, whose availability is limited in many regions across the world. Modern advances in large language models (LLMs) offer potential support for radiological assessments. The aim of this study is to compare the diagnostic capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) platforms — GPT-5 Thinking, Gemini, and DeepSeek — in identifying radiological

Radiomics and deep learning model based on X-ray imaging for the assisted diagnosis of early Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease.

BACKGROUND: X-rays are the most commonly used method for diagnosing Legg–Calvé–Perthes disease (LCPD) in children. However, in early-stage LCPD, X-rays only show subtle changes, making diagnosis highly dependent on the radiologist’s experience. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a combined radiomics and deep learning model based on anteroposterior and frog-leg lateral X-rays for identifying early LCPD patients. METHODS: We retrospectively collected imaging data of children diagnosed with early LCPD and normal control groups from two centers between January 2013 and December 2023
