INTRODUCTION: Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD, MIM #119600) is an autosomal-dominant disorder characterized by hypoplasia or aplasia of clavicles, patent fontanelles and short stature. The responsible gene has been identified as RUNX2. CCD is also accompanied by characteristic dental abnormalities, e.g. supernumerary teeth, delayed eruption and impaction of permanent teeth. Intrafamilial variations of skeletal abnormalities are reported but those of dental abnormalities are obscure. To clarify this point, a precise examination of the dental features of CCD siblings having identical mutation was p

It is widely recognised by the scientific dental community that the correct development of the deciduous and mixed dentitions is paramount to the oral health of paediatric patients. In this respect, interceptive orthodontics plays a fundamental role in the process. Specifically, the paediatric dentist monitors the condition of the mouth from early childhood, distinguishing three age brackets for intervention, each defined by their own characteristics. It would also be desirable for other professionals who treat young patients and their mothers to various extents, such as paediatricians, gynaec

OBJECTIVE: Palate and lip repair have great influence on the sagittal and transverse growth of the maxilla. The correlation between arch widths and sagittal interarch relationships in operated patients with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) in the mixed dentition is not clear. The aim of this study was to compare the maxillary arch widths of patients with UCLP and different interarch relationships (GOSLON Yardstick index).
METHODS: The study sample consisted of 144 pairs of dental casts of patients with complete UCLP from 8 to 10 years of age, from a single center. These dental

Of 49,380 male naval recruits who were screened for juvenile periodontitis (JP), 270 were clinically diagnosed as having the disease. Full-mouth radiographs identified 182 of these 270 patients as having JP with extensive bone loss on permanent first molars and/or incisors. These 182 patients, 137 (75.3%) of whom were black, were further classified into Type I: bone loss involving first molars and/or incisors and up to two additional teeth; Type II: involvement of first molars/incisors and several additional teeth; and Type III: generalized involvement (more than 14 teeth) but with bone loss n
