Three-dimensional long-term assessment of soft tissue stability after orthognathic mandibular advancement for class II malocclusion correction.

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to assess the stability of soft tissues one and three years after orthognathic mandibular advancement surgery by superimposing the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images and quantifying potential soft tissue changes following surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this prospective observational study, changes in the hard and soft tissues of the chin, lower incisors, and lower lip due to displacement and/or bone remodeling were analyzed using three-dimensional models based on CBCT superimposition images acquired before surgery (T0), one year after surgery (T1), and

The Effect of Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics on Periodontal Phenotypes in Adult Patients With Skeletal Class II Malocclusion: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

AIMS: To assess the impact of periodontally accelerated osteogenic orthodontics (PAOO) on periodontal phenotypes of mandibular anterior teeth in skeletal Class II malocclusion patients. METHODS: In this study, we enrolled 30 skeletal Class II malocclusion patients with 176 mandibular anterior teeth who were recommended for PAOO surgery due to insufficient labial alveolar bone in the anterior mandible. Participants were divided into two groups: the PAOO group (n = 15, receiving orthodontics with PAOO) and the control group (n = 15, receiving orthodontics alone), based on whether they had a his

Interdisciplinary management of a skeletal class II, hyperdivergent patient accompanied by multiple missing teeth and severe overeruption with orthodontic assisted space redistribution and implant restoration.

Long-term absence of posterior teeth often leads to significant overeruption of the antagonists, posing a substantial challenge for restorative treatment planning. This case report presents an interdisciplinary approach for a skeletal class II, hyperdivergent patient accompanied by missing maxillary second premolars (15,25), left maxillary second molar (27), mandibular first and second molars (36,37,46,47) and severe overeruption of maxillary first molars (16,17). The maxillary first molars were intruded using both buccal and palatal miniscrews while the existing maxillary spaces were closed.

The Effect Evaluation of Functional Appliance Used for Class II Patients With Temporomandibular Joint Anterior Disc Displacement.

Orthopedic functional appliances are usually used to correct patients with retrognathic mandible. However, a part of cases have a trend of relapse after splint treatment. The aim of this study was to explore the role of temporomandibular joint disc position in functional appliance treatment. This study included 8 patients who had 1 joint anterior disc displacement with reduction (ADDWR) and the other joint anterior disc displacement without reduction (ADDWoR) confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Only the ADDWR joint could return to its normal position after wearing the anterior repos

Soft tissue changes: a comparison between changes caused by the construction bite and by successful treatment with a modified Twin-block appliance.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Functional appliances are commonly used to correct Class II malocclusion. This study aimed to compare the facial soft tissue changes in Caucasians between pre-treatment and with the construction bite versus pre-treatment and completion of treatment with a modified Twin-block appliance (MTBA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-eight Caucasian subjects with Class II division 1 malocclusion had 3D stereophotogrammetric images captured pre-treatment (T1), with the construction bite (T2), and on completion of MTBA treatment (T3). Twenty-six landmarks were located on each image an

Interdisciplinary treatment for a compensated Class II partially edentulous malocclusion: Orthodontic creation of a posterior implant site.

A 36-year-old woman with good periodontal health sought treatment for a compensated Class II partially edentulous malocclusion associated with a steep mandibular plane (SN-MP, 45°), 9 missing teeth, a 3-mm midline discrepancy, and compromised posterior occlusal function. She had multiple carious lesions, a failing fixed prostheses in the mandibular right quadrant replacing the right first molar, and a severely atrophic edentulous ridge in the area around the mandibular left first and second molars. After restoration of the caries, the mandibular left third molar served as anchorage to correct

Establishing ideal occlusion to achieve esthetic and functional excellence: an interdisciplinary approach to functional esthetics.

When diagnosing and treating occlusal problems, a thorough evaluation of occlusal planes is essential. Studies have shown internal derangement may cause minimal morphologic changes in one patient. In another patient, severe condylar changes with the same level of internal derangement severity may occur. The factors may include contraceptive use and systemic conditions, such as arthritis. The following two case reports feature females who presented with nonfunctional open bite malocclusions, displaying distorted curve of Wilson and curve of Spee with minimal tooth contacts and histories of temp
