Oral and Dental Examination Findings in Beech Martens (Martes foina).

Detailed clinical and radiographical descriptions of oral/dental pathology in the beech marten (Martes foina) are lacking. In the present study, skulls of M. foina from a museum collection (n = 109) were examined macroscopically according to predefined criteria and full-mouth dental radiographs were obtained. Occlusion was diagnosed as 'scissor bite' in 22.5% of evaluated skulls, 77% of evaluated skulls showed 'level bite' of incisors and 9.2% of evaluated skulls had 'open bites'. In three skulls, class III malocclusion was diagnosed. Linguoversion of the mandibular second incisor teeth was no

[Osteoradionecrosis. I. Etiology, pathogenesis, clinical aspects and risk factors].

In curative therapy of mouth-cavity and oropharyngeal carcinomas the osteoradionecrosis has to be accepted as a calculated risk with an incidence of 4-35%. It is the question of a radio-caused bone death that comes about by progressive and irreversible morphological alterations at bones and at vessels: Loss of osteocytes, active osteoblasts and osteoclasts (hypocellularity), injury of normal bone metabolism, slackening of regeneration process, extreme susceptibility to infections of the devitalized bone, radio-induced obliterating endarteritis with hyalinization, thrombosis and fibrosing of ve

Treatment of endodontic perforations by guided tissue regeneration.

Case reports of mandibular molars with iatrogenic perforations are presented. Such perforations have been treated with internal amalgam repair or by surgical intervention. However, the potential exists for tissue migration and pocket formation. The use of guided tissue regeneration as a barrier for apical migration is beneficial in surgical treatment of perforations. Follow-up examination of perforated teeth treated with resorbable barriers showed successful repair. Results obtained with this technique offer the possibility of a successful repair for an otherwise hopeless complication of endod

Endotoxin Levels after Calcium Hydroxide Placement in Root Canals Irrigated with Continuous or Sequential Chelation in Previously Treated Teeth with Symptomatic Apical Periodontitis: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.

INTRODUCTION: Endotoxins are proinflammatory components of Gram-negative bacteria. The aim of this randomized clinical trial was to test the null hypotheses that (i) there is no significant difference between continuous chelation irrigation (5.25% sodium hypochlorite + 9% etidronic acid) and sequential chelation (5.25% sodium hypochlorite - 17% ethylene diaminetetra-acetic acid) in endotoxin reduction, and (ii) placement of calcium hydroxide (CH) does not further improve endotoxin reduction in previously treated teeth with symptomatic apical periodontitis. METHODS: Previously treated teeth wi

Investigation of the relationship between apical periodontitis and host modulation provided by nutritional supplement: a study in rats.

BACKGROUND: Traditional treatments often involve chemotherapeutic agents; however, immune modulation agents, such as probiotics, propolis, Vitamin E, and vegetable oils, may offer alternative approaches to reduce inflammation and bone damage. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of various host modulation agents (probiotics, propolis, Vitamin E, and vegetable oils) on inflammation and bone loss in a rat model of experimental apical periodontitis (AP). METHODS: Eight-week-old Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 79) were used. AP was induced by exposing the coronal pulp of the mandibular righ

Autophagy regulates bone loss via the RANKL/RANK/OPG axis in an experimental rat apical periodontitis model.

AIM: Autophagy is involved in human apical periodontitis (AP). However, it is not clear whether autophagy is protective or destructive in bone loss via the receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL)/RANK/osteoprotegerin (OPG) axis. This study aimed to investigate the involvement of autophagy via the RANKL/RANK/OPG axis during the development of AP in an experimental rat model. METHODOLOGY: Twenty-four female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into control, experimental AP (EAP) + saline, and EAP + 3-methyladenine (An autophagy inhibitor, 3-MA) groups. The control group did not recei

The role of hemisection in the prosthetic management of a distal extension ridge--a case report.

UNLABELLED: This case report illustrates the use of hemisection to minimize the distal extension span. The LR6 was the only molar next to a distal extension of the lower Kennedy's Class II ridge. Its unrestorable distal root was removed and its mesial portion was retained to serve as an effective antagonist and abutment tooth and lessen the extent of right distal extension. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Regarding the prosthetic rehabilitation of distal extensions, hemisection can be advantageous and offered as an alternative to other treatment modalities.

Immediate dental implant failure associated with nasopalatine duct cyst.

This case report presents an analysis of the clinical, radiographic, and histological features of a peri-implant lesion around an implant placed immediately after extraction of a tooth with a periapical lesion. A 52-year-old man received an immediate implant (3.75 x 11.5 mm2) placed in the anterior region of the maxilla. Three years after implant placement, the patient presented with swelling in the anterior portion of the maxilla. Radiographic examination showed a well-circumscribed radiolucency around the implant. The implant and the lesion were removed and fixed in 10% buffered formalin and

Successful treatment of pulpal-periodontal combined lesion in a birooted maxillary lateral incisor with concomitant palato-radicular groove. A case report.

Palato-radicular groove (PRG) is a common developmental anomaly of maxillary incisors, whereas PRG associated with a birooted maxillary incisor is relatively infrequent. The clinical significance of PRG is related to the incidence of localized periodontitis with or without pulpal pathosis, depending on the depth, extent, and complexity of the groove. Successful treatments of PRG in single-rooted incisors have been reported in the literature. However, treatment of PRG in birooted incisors has often been ineffective. This case report describes a pulpal-periodontal combined lesion occurring on a

Quantification of PCNA+ cells within odontogenic jaw cyst epithelium.

The aim of this study was to investigate the reactivity of the epithelial linings of the three major types of odontogenic cyst with a monoclonal antibody to proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA; clone PC10). PCNA expression was studied in odontogenic cysts (n = 31) and normal oral epithelium (n = 10) using a biotin-streptavidin method on routinely processed paraffin sections. PCNA+ cells were counted manually and related to the length of basement membrane (mm) and the epithelial area (mm2) as determined by TV image analysis. The epithelial linings of odontogenic keratocysts (OKC; n = 11) c
