Evaluation of obstetric outcomes in Brazilian pregnant women with Takayasu arteritis.

OBJECTIVE: Takayasu arteritis (TAK) is a rare chronic granulomatous vasculitis that affects large vessels and usually begins in women of childbearing age, so it is not uncommon for pregnancies to occur in these patients. However, there is limited information about these pregnancies, with reports of adverse maternal and obstetric outcomes. The objective of this study is to evaluate adverse maternal, fetal and neonatal events in pregnant patients with TA. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection. We reviewed 22 pregnancies in 18 patients with TAK, according to

Cook Cervical Ripening Balloon for placenta accreta spectrum disorders with placenta previa: a novel approach to uterus preserving.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of intrauterine inflated Cook Cervical Ripening Balloon (ICRB) in postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) management and fertility preserving for placenta accreta spectrum disorders with placenta previa (previa PAS). METHODS: At a tertiary referral center, 74 patients suffering with previa PAS were entered into this retrospective cohort study from January, 2016 to December, 2020, and were confirmed intraoperatively that abnormal invasive placenta reaches the cervical internal ostium and the upper part of the cervical canal. In control group (n = 39), the combination of i

Perinatal psychiatric episodes: a population-based study on treatment incidence and prevalence.

Perinatal psychiatric episodes comprise various disorders and symptom severity, which are diagnosed and treated in multiple treatment settings. To date, no studies have quantified the incidence and prevalence of perinatal psychiatric episodes treated in primary and secondary care, which we aimed to do in the present study. We designed a descriptive prospective study and included information from Danish population registers to study first-time ever and recurrent psychiatric episodes during the perinatal period, including treatment at psychiatric facilities and general practitioners (GPs). This

Eating disorders symptoms in pregnancy and postpartum: a prospective study in a disadvantaged population in Brazil.

OBJECTIVE: To assess eating disorder symptoms (EDS) from prepregancy through postpartum. METHOD: Seven hundred and twelve women with gestational age ranging from 16th to 36th week completed the eating disorder examination questionnaire (EDE-Q). A shortened version of the EDE-Q was used to assess, retrospectively, EDS during the last 28 days of the pregestational period. Follow up assessment occurred at the 4th-5th month postpartum (n = 427). Generalized structural equation models were used to estimate risk of EDS in pregestation, gestation, and postpartum. RESULTS: Women who did not particip

Analysed data come from National Registry of Mothers at Childbirth and from National Registry of Newborns, which are managed by the Institute of Health Information and Statistics. GOAL: To describe the prevalence of addictive substances use among women during gestation and to study its relation to health complications during pregnancy, delivery or puerperium and to health status of foetus and newborns. METHODS AND MATERIALS: The reporting to registries is provided in th

Childbearing in women with and without a history of affective disorder. II. Electroencephalographic sleep.

Electroencephalographic (EEG) sleep was examined longitudinally in 34 obstetrically healthy volunteers recruited early in pregnancy. All women were free of current psychiatric disorder. Fourteen women had a personal history of affective disorder, and 20 had no history of any psychiatric disorder. EEG sleep was recorded in subjects' homes at specified points from 12 weeks' gestation through 8 months' postpartum to examine the impact of childbearing on sleep and psychiatric symptoms in women with a history of affective disorder. EEG sleep measurements, as well as clinical ratings of sleep, indic

Tricyclic drugs in pregnancy and lactation: a preliminary report.

The management of severe depression during pregnancy and lactation is a serious concern to both physicians and parents, since the use of tricyclic antidepressant drugs (TCAs) has not been proven to be safe. This is a preliminary report of our ongoing studies of four groups of women treated with tricyclic antidepressants before and during pregnancy and/or lactation. The four groups are women who: became pregnant while on TCAs (n = 9); were prescribed TCAs during pregnancy (n = 9); were prescribed TCAs during lactation (n = 20); or were clinically depressed during lactation, but who refused TCAs

Impaired LH release following exogenous estrogen administration in patients with amenorrhea-galactorrhea syndrome.

Serum gonadotropin levels were determined in 10 patients with the amenorrhea-galactorrhea syndrome before and following acute iv administration of synthetic LH-releasing hormone (LHRH) or conjugated estrogens, in order to clarify the hypothalamic derangements in the gonadotropin secretion in patients with hyperprolactinemia. The basal prolactin (PRL) levels were elevated in all the patients, and blunted responses to 500 mug of iv synthetic thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) injection were found in 9 out of the 10 patients. The basal levels of LH and FSH were subnormal in 2 and 3 patients, res

Association between NT-proBNP and Persistent Postpartum Hypertension among Individuals with Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the association of N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) concentration during the delivery hospitalization with persistence of postpartum hypertension and postpartum blood pressure (BP) trajectory among individuals with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP). STUDY DESIGN: This was a single-site cohort study including individuals with new-onset HDP who participated in a remote BP monitoring program and an obstetric biobank. Postpartum BP data were collected from the delivery hospitalization, remote monitoring program, and outpatient v

The efficacy of whole-body vibration training in alleviating postpartum pelvic girdle pain: A randomized controlled trial.

BackgroundAlthough whole-body vibration (WBV) training has been investigated for its effects on low back pain, pelvic floor muscles, and lower limbs, evidence from randomized controlled trials evaluating its efficacy in alleviating postpartum pelvic girdle pain (PPGP) remains lacking.ObjectiveTo investigate the effectiveness of WBV training in alleviating pain, improving functional status, and enhancing quality of life in women with PPGP.MethodsIn the double-blind randomized controlled trial, 52 women with PPGP were randomly assigned to either core stability training combined with WBV training

Transcatheter arterial embolization outperforms surgery in reducing blood transfusions for postpartum vulvovaginal hematoma.

BACKGROUND: Postpartum vulvovaginal hematoma is a complication of vaginal delivery that may progress to life-threatening conditions. However, the management of hematomas, including conservative therapy, surgery, and arterial embolization, is yet to be standardized. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to: (1) evaluate hematoma features that can be treated conservatively, and (2) determine whether surgery or transcatheter arterial embolization is superior in reducing blood transfusion. STUDY DESIGN: This cross-sectional study included postpartum women transferred to Tohoku University Hospital, Japan,

[Peripartum cardiomyopathy with biventricular failure plus pulmonary thromboembolism and atrial septal defect].

This case report examines peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM), a rare variant of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, which manifests at the end of labor or puerperium. The frequency of this pathology varies globally, and its association with risk factors such as genetic disorders, autoimmune diseases, viral infections, suggests a multifactorial etiology. Diagnostic criteria include: Heart failure secondary to left ventricular systolic dysfunction, manifested in the puerperium or at the end of pregnancy and lack of other identifiable causes of heart failure. The case presents a patient w
