Feasibility and limitations of an automated 2D-3D rigid image registration system for complex endovascular aortic procedures.

PURPOSE: To examine the feasibility of an automated 2-dimensional (2D) to 3- dimensional (3D) image registration system to simplify the navigational challenges faced in complex endovascular aortic procedures. METHODS: An automated 2D-3D image registration system was used to overlay pre-acquired 3D computed tomography images onto fluoroscopy images taken during endovascular aneurysm repair. Errors between the 3D overlay and digital subtraction angiograms were measured and correlated with aortic neck angulation. A mean discrepancy < or =3 mm was considered clinically acceptable. RESULTS: There

Prospective assessment of deep inspiration breath-hold using 3-dimensional surface tracking for irradiation of left-sided breast cancer.

PURPOSE: Deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) is used to decrease cardiac irradiation during radiation therapy (RT) for breast cancer. The patients most likely to benefit and the impact on treatment time remain largely unknown. We sought to identify predictors for the use of DIBH and to quantify differences in dosimetry and treatment time using a prospective registry. METHODS AND MATERIALS: A total of 150 patients with left breast cancer were enrolled. All patients were simulated with both free breathing (FB) and DIBH. RT was delivered by either modality. Alternate scans were planned with use

Conventional chest computed tomography-based radiomics for predicting the risk of thoracolumbar osteoporotic vertebral fractures.

UNLABELLED: Our study focused on predicting thoracolumbar osteoporotic vertebral fractures through radiomic analysis of non-fractured thoracic vertebrae using conventional chest CT. Four types of radiomics models were developed and showed acceptable prediction performance. Radiomics models incorporating both cortical-appendicular and trabecular bone may have superior performance compared to those using either feature set individually. The RAD score models based on thoracic vertebral combinations achieved comparable performance with lumbar bone mineral density (BMD) measurements. PURPOSE: To d

Automatic recognition and differentiation of pulmonary contusion and bacterial pneumonia based on deep learning and radiomics.

BACKGROUND: In clinical work, there are difficulties in distinguishing pulmonary contusion(PC) from bacterial pneumonia(BP) on CT images by the naked eye alone when the history of trauma is unknown. Artificial intelligence is widely used in medical imaging, but its diagnostic performance for pulmonary contusion is unclear. In this study, artificial intelligence was used for the first time to identify lung contusion and bacterial pneumonia, and its diagnostic performance was compared with that of manual. METHODS: In this retrospective study, 2179 patients between April 2016 and July 2022 from
