The value of radiology as part of an examination of the equine head is emphasised and the radiological appearances of more commonly occurring conditions are described. Even the normal anatomy of this complex site is subject to great variation and the aspiring radiologist should, therefore, have a good knowledge of the possible normal variations. A flexible approach must be used rather than a limitation to one or two ritual projections. The use of contrast media, wherever it might be useful, is advocated so that the maximum amount of information may be obtained from each examination. Finally, e

Skeletal and circulatory damage in the form of a fracture of the mandible, proximal to the entry of the inferior alveolar artery and other perforantes, alone or combined with unilateral or bilateral mucoperiosteal extirpation, was inflicted on growing young rats. A morphological study of the tissue changes in the bone, dental tissues and soft tissues was performed. Cutting of the nutrient vessels together with extirpation of the periosteum was followed after 10 days by extensive infarction of the incisor pulp, the odontoblasts and the apical part of the enamel organ. The bone was damaged centr

This case report describes the endodontic management of a maxillary central incisor with two roots, representing a rare anatomical variation. A 73-year-old female patient presented with a fractured tooth #21 with a carious crown. Pulp sensibility testing using cold spray elicited a sharp and prolonged painful response, consistent with a diagnosis of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis with normal apical tissues. Conventional periapical radiography suggested an unusual root morphology, which was further evaluated using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). CBCT imaging revealed a bifurcated root

Nineteen cases of intracranial abscesses secondary to infection of the midface are reported. The most common underlying cause was bacterial sinusitis. Other etiologic factors included mucormycosis following steroid therapy, Wegener's granulomatosis, nasal dermoid cyst and sinus tract, tooth abscesses, aspergillosis following chemotherapy for leukemia, squamous cell carcinoma of the frontal sinus, infected methylmethacrylate plate for a prior skull fracture, and a case of gauze packing left in the sinus following surgery. Anaerobic organisms were the predominant cause of the abscesses. The most

PURPOSE: The aim of this case series was to describe a modification of the classic "closed reduction" technique to manage unilateral or anterior open bite owing to a loss in vertical height (LVH) caused by several disorders and pathologies other than displaced condylar fractures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The protocol included insertion of an occlusal appliance to increase the height of the premature contact and the width of the open bite, stabilization of the dental arches by rigid arches, and the use, during sleep, of rubber bands in the open bite region to pull the mandible cranially. In addi

Osteoporosis and periodontitis are both diseases characterized by bone resorption. Osteoporosis features systemic degenerative bone loss that leads to loss of skeletal cancellous microstructure and subsequent fracture, whereas periodontitis involves local inflammatory bone loss, following an infectious breach of the alveolar cortical bone, and it may result in tooth loss. Most cross-sectional studies have confirmed the association of osteoporosis and periodontitis primarily on radiographic measurements and to a lesser degree on clinical parameters. Multiple shared risk factors include age, gen

Treatment of nonvital immature permanent teeth with calcium-hydroxide is associated with some difficulties such as weakened tooth fracture, root canal reinfection and long treatment time. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) apical plug method is an alternative treatment option for open apices, and has gained popularity in the recent times. In this case report, we have attempted to present successful treatment of three maxillary incisors with open apices and periapical lesions with MTA. After preparing the access cavity, the working length was determined. The root canals were irrigated with 2.5% S

Implant failures due to apical pathology are conditions that have not been extensively studied nor reported in the literature. The implant periapical lesion (IPAL) has different symptoms, and several etiologies have been proposed in the literature. This article reviews cases of IPAL reported in peer-reviewed journals and presents possible treatment options. Analysis of the data collected was performed based on diagnosis, cause of extraction of the natural tooth, location, period of implant placement, implant surface, and treatment approach. Even the data presented in this review are based on f

BACKGROUND: Langerhans cell histiocytosis is characterized by a clonal proliferation of Langerhans cells. The clinical manifestation varies from a localized lesion (eosinophilic granuloma) to a systemic disease. The diagnosis can only be confirmed histopathologically. A comprehensive staging is necessary to determine the extent of the disease and to establish an adequate therapy.
CASE REPORT: We report on a 27 years old patient who was referred to our clinic with the diagnosis of an osteomyelitis of the mandibular angle and a pathological fracture after extraction of tooth 38 one month before

Autogenous block bone grafts have been highly successful in treating human periodontal defects, restoring esthetics, and developing adequate bone volume for dental implant placement. Limitations in available donor bone, the need for an added surgical procedure, and other potential complications have made the use of allogenic bone graft materials an important alternative. One patient described in this report presented with fractured root syndrome of the right maxillary incisor with severe resorption of the buccal plate. After atraumatic tooth extraction, a staged treatment approach involving lo

INTRODUCTION: Over the past few years, anti-CD20 therapies like rituximab, ocrelizumab or ofatumumab have seen an increase in interest in the treatment of neurological autoimmune disorders such as multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD), or resistant forms of generalized myasthenia gravis (MG). They are generally well-tolerated, but recent reports have highlighted severe dental disorders in patients undergoing anti-CD20 therapies. The aim was to describe a series of cases and to compare with the available scientific literature.
METHODS: We reviewed 6 patient c

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between post-eruptive dental fractures, hypomineralization, and psychosomatic factors such as anxiety, headache, awake bruxism, and temporomandibular disorder (TMD) in children aged 7 to 12 years. A cross-sectional study involving 274 children was conducted using clinical examinations based on the European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (EAPD) criteria for the diagnosis of hypomineralization and post-eruptive breakdown. Structured and validated questionnaires were administered through interviews to assess psychosomatic factors such as anxiety, h

BACKGROUND: The restoration of endodontically treated premolars has been a controversial topic. Whether a post or a more conservative option should be used remains inconclusive. The present in vitro study aimed to evaluate the fracture strength and failure pattern of different partial coverage restoration approaches for endodontically treated upper premolars in comparison to the post, core and crown approach. METHODS: Thirty-five maxillary premolars were endodontically treated and assigned to five groups (n = 7): endocrown (E), endocrown with buccal veneer (EB), overlay (O), overlay with bucca

OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated the reinforcing effect of various core and overlay materials used in bi-layered restorations on the fracture resistance of compromised endodontically treated maxillary premolars with mesio-occluso-distal (MOD) cavities.
METHODS: Three core materials were assessed: a packable short fiber-reinforced composite (everX Posterior (EXP)), its flowable counterpart (everX Flow (EXF)), and a dual-cure core material (GRADIA CORE (GC)). Each core material was combined with one of three overlay restorations: an indirect overlay (ID) using CERASMART 270, a direct overlay (D
