Preventive recommendations for school-aged children and adolescents in primary care: a systematic review.

OBJECTIVE: To systematically identify preventive recommendations for healthy school-aged children and adolescents (6-18 years) in high-income settings published from 2010 onwards, assess the quality of clinical practice guidelines, and inform subsequent prioritization of preventive actions in primary care. METHODS: Bibliographic databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library), guideline repositories, Google, and Google Scholar were initially searched in 2020 and last updated on 7 July 2025. Titles/abstracts were screened by one reviewer and full texts by two independent revie

Disorders of consciousness in the ICU: gaps in establishing and communicating the prognosis.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Survivorship of severe acute brain injuries is increasing worldwide, with many of these injuries resulting in disorders of consciousness (DOC). We aim to review current challenges in achieving goal-concordant care for patients with DOC, while highlighting recent advancements to guide neurologic prognostication. RECENT FINDINGS: Prognostic uncertainty, cognitive biases among clinicians and surrogate decision-makers (SDM), and a paucity of nuanced neurologic assessments in many settings pose major barriers to accurate prognostication. Short observation times and large variati

From molecular mechanisms to digital surveillance: the 2010-2025 evolution of benzodiazepine and Z-drug misuse research.

The misuse of benzodiazepines (BZDs) and Z-drugs poses significant global public health challenges. This study maps the scientific evolution and paradigm shifts in this field from 2010 to 2025. A bibliometric analysis of 6,311 publications from the Web of Science Core Collection was performed using VOSviewer and CiteSpace to identify collaboration networks, research hotspots, and emerging frontiers. The USA and Harvard Medical School dominated global contributions. Research hotspots evolved through three distinct phases: (1) 2010-2014 focused on GABAA receptor subtype-specific pharmacology, sp

Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound in Cardiovascular Diseases: Research Hotspots and Clinical Translation Prospects.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) represent a significant global health challenge. Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS), a non-invasive therapeutic approach, has emerged as a promising modality for promoting tissue repair, reducing inflammation, and improving microcirculation. This study employs a combination of bibliometric analysis and a systematic research review to outline the evolving landscape of LIPUS applications in cardiovascular disease. Relevant literature was comprehensively retrieved from the Web of Science and Scopus databases. Analytical insights were derived from publication tr

Fragrance in Dermatology: Revisiting Sensitization and Clinical Use.

Fragrance is widely used in consumer products and holds significant cultural and personal value, yet in dermatology it is most often approached as a risk factor due to its role as a leading cause of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) and potential irritant or sensory trigger in susceptible individuals. As a result, avoidance or minimization of fragranced products is frequently recommended, particularly for patients with eczema, sensitive skin, xerosis, chronic pruritus, or suspected fragrance allergy. However, this paradigm may oversimplify sensitization risk and does not fully reflect advances

Strategic leadership in elite sport organizations: a systematic review of governance, leadership, and performance systems.

BACKGROUND: Strategic leadership describes the various leadership styles and how different countries succeeded in international sports competitions. Leadership success is clearly determined by three inputs: a strategic vision, efficient implementation, and performance impact, i.e., increasing a country's international influence in sport. To categorize the most common research topics, main findings, and shortcomings of analyses conducted in sport organizations, a systematic review was carried out. METHODS: Based on the PRISMA protocol, relevant articles published from January 2010 to August 20

Exosome-based nanomedicine for neurological disorders: mechanisms, engineering, and therapeutic potential.

Exosomes are naturally occurring extracellular vesicles that have emerged as promising bio-inspired nanocarriers for the treatment of neurological disorders owing to their intrinsic biocompatibility, low immunogenicity, and ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. This review highlights recent advances in exosome biology, cargo-sorting mechanisms, and engineering strategies designed to enhance therapeutic delivery and targeting within the central nervous system. Particular emphasis is placed on the application of engineered exosomes in neurodegenerative diseases, stroke, spinal cord injury, n

Cost-Effectiveness of Screening and Early Diagnosis Strategies for Cancer in the General Adult Population in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Systematic Review.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) due to barriers to obtaining access to health care services and screening programs. The current study aimed to synthesize evidence on cost-effective strategies for cancer screening and early diagnosis in adults (≥18 years) in LMICs. The literature search was conducted in PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, EconLit, CINAHL, LILACS, Global Health, and the Web of Science Core Collection databases. The review included cost-effectiveness studies compared

Bridging the United States population diversity gaps in clinical research: roadmap to precision health and reducing health disparities.

Precision medicine promises improved health outcomes by tailoring treatments to individual genetic and environmental factors. However, achieving this potential is hindered by persistent health disparities and the underrepresentation of racially and ethnically diverse populations in clinical trials. Limited diversity in research exacerbates health inequities, reducing the generalizability of findings and widening gaps in access to effective treatments. This review outlines a multi-faceted strategy to bridge diversity gaps in clinical trials, focusing on community engagement, clinical pharmacolo

Reimagining Indigenous healthcare through a readiness to practice lens: A quantitative content analysis of the empirical literature.

OBJECTIVES: The concept of "readiness to practice" has not been clearly delineated within an Indigenous health context. This systematic review occurred on a multi-database survey of published primary literature. The primary objective of this review was to determine what it takes for clinicians to be ready to practice with Indigenous populations. METHODS: This review identified articles published in the last 20 years within Canada, the United States, New Zealand, and Australia. The databases that were searched included CINAHL, Medline (via Ovid), Embase (via Ovid), Scopus, and Web of Science,
