The Early Iron Age elite grave from the Kapiteljska njiva barrow cemetery (Novo mesto, Slovenia): an approach to dental profiling through non-invasive and minimally-invasive techniques.

Kapiteljska njiva is a prehistoric cemetery located in the town of Novo mesto in southern Slovenia. There is a long history of archaeologica … erved skeletal elements; however, in the head part of the grave, remains of human teeth, mostly the tooth crowns and the shells of enamel from the tooth crowns, were found among the scattered amber beads of a necklace. Moreover, these tooth remains are one of the few human biological materials (mostly fragments of skull and long limb bones) unearthed in this …

Idiopathic Gingival Fibromatosis: Report of a Rare Case.

The progressive overgrowth of the gingiva is the hallmark of idiopathic gingival fibromatosis (IGF). Excess gingival tissue can obscure the crown of a tooth, resulting in spaces between teeth, displacement, retention of primary or permanent teeth, and difficulties with feeding, speaking, and appearance. The diagnosis and management of inherited gingival fibromatosis are the focus of this case report. A 12-year-old girl was referred from the Department of Orthodontics to Oral Medicine as a result of progressive gingival enlargement, which impeded orthodontic treatment for misaligned lower front

[ANALYSIS OF THE SIZE OF THE CEPHALOMETRIC VALUES OF THE FACE AND THE ODONTOMETRIC PARAMETERS OF THE JAWS DURING THE PERIOD OF OCCLUSION CHANGE OF THE DENTAL ROWS].

115 respondents aged 7-11 with occlusive pathology were examined anthropometrically and biometrically. The sizes of the craniofacial complex were studied using the parameters of the width and diagonal of the face. The jaw indices of the face were calculated. The mesio-distal, vestibulo-oral and vertical dimensions of the crowns of primary and permanent teeth were measured. The widths and lengths of dental arches during the period of tooth change were determined by the method of Pont and Korkhaus. Diagnosed mesognathic, dolichognathic and brachygnathic face types with normodont, macrodont and m

Role of reduced enamel epithelium in root resorption.

BACKGROUND: The precise mechanism of root resorption in human primary teeth is unclear. However, research has suggested that the enamel organ and dental follicle of the successive (permanent) teeth are important for this process. This review focuses on the mechanism of root resorption. HIGHLIGHT: Impaction of the maxillary permanent canines is occasionally seen. Computer tomography studies have shown that these canines cause root resorption in 12.5% of the neighboring central and lateral incisors. In such cases, enlargement of the radiolucent areas around the canine crowns is frequently seen.

Endonasal endoscopic management of different cases of dentigerous cysts and ectopic teeth.

Dentigerous cyst is a type of developmental odontogenic cysts that arises from the crown impacted, embedded or unerupted teeth that standardly managed by Caldwell-luc procedure, which is found to be associated with morbidities and complications. Endonasal endoscopic removal is a minimally invasive approach aiming to prevent morbidities and complications. The aim of this article is to study the advantages of the endonasal endoscopic approach in managing different cases of dentigerous cyst and ectopic teeth. In this article, we reported three different cases (two pediatric and one adult), one pr

Calcium enriched mixture cement for primary molars exhibiting root perforations and extensive root resorption: report of three cases.

In primary molars with root perforations of endodontic origin, tooth extraction and space maintainer are recommended. Calcium-enriched mixture (CEM) cement is a new biomaterial demonstrating favorable sealability/biocompatibility. This report presents a novel treatment modality for cases of primary molar teeth with root perforations associated with a periodontal lesion due to extensive inflammatory root resorption, whereby CEM was used as a perforation repair/pulpotomy biomaterial. Three cases of primary molar root perforations due to inflammatory resorption were selected; all cases were assoc

Orthodontic treatment of localised gingival recession associated with traumatic anterior crossbite.

BACKGROUND: Gingival recession can be defined as the apical shift of the marginal gingiva from its normal position on the crown of the tooth to levels on the root surface beyond the cemento-enamel junction. The aetiology of this condition is multifactorial, but can result from a traumatic occlusion. The long-term prognosis of teeth with localised gingival recession can be uncertain. Successful management of these cases may involve either orthodontic or periodontal treatment in isolation or in combination. AIM: To describe two patients in which localised gingival recession associated with ante

[Removable prosthesis in a 4-year-old child with nursing bottle caries and possible ectodermal dysplasia].

This case report represents a child that needed, at the age of 3, dental treatment under narcosis due to nursing bottle caries including multiple extractions. Six months later the few remaining teeth were again seriously affected by decay. Due to the medical history of urological problems, abnormal aspect of hair and skin and abnormal forms of primary teeth (only reported by the parents), there was a presumption of ectodermal dysplasia, so the patient was referred to the department of medical genetics. Genetic research is still going on. We decided to restore the remaining teeth in ambulant ca

In vitro efficacy of sodium perborate preparations used for intracoronal bleaching of discolored non-vital teeth.

Bleaching materials containing 30% hydrogen peroxide have been used successfully for the treatment of discolored non-vital teeth. Intracoronal application of these materials was occasionally associated with the development of external root resorption. Extracted human teeth with intact crowns were discolored in vitro and bleached with three preparations of sodium perborate. These preparations included: sodium perborate with 30% hydrogen peroxide, sodium perborate with 3% hydrogen peroxide and sodium perborate with water. The bleaching materials were placed in the pulp chamber of the discolored

Coronectomy of mandibular third molars with dental pathology: a prospective cohort study of 121 molars.

PURPOSE: Coronectomy is a valuable treatment proven safe for non-pathological mandibular third molars with an increased risk of inferior alveolar nerve injury. Coronectomy may also be useful for mandibular third molars with dentigerous cysts and caries, but this is not commonly performed due to the lack of well-designed, evidence-based studies. Here, we aim to investigate the safety of coronectomy for mandibular third molars with caries and dentigerous cysts. METHODS: One hundred fifteen patients with an impacted mandibular third molar with a dentigerous cyst or caries underwent coronectomy o

Survey of talon cusps in the permanent dentition of a Turkish population.

AIM: Talon cusp is the name given to the accessory tubercles located on the lingual faces of anterior teeth. The occurrence of talon cusps has been reported among Europeans and Asians. However, there are few reports of this anomaly in Caucasians as well as a paucity of literature on its characteristics. Today there are seven million Turkish citizens of Caucasian origin that have settled in the Marmara, Central-Anatolia, East-Anatolia, and Black Sea regions of Turkey. The aim of this study is to present 27 Caucasian cases with 33 taloned teeth. This study is the first that was undertaken to inv

Bilateral fusion of mandibular second molars with supernumerary teeth: case report.

Fusion is a developmental anomaly characterized by the union of two adjacent teeth. In this article we report a rare case of bilateral fusion of permanent mandibular second molars with supernumerary teeth. The rarity with which this entity appears, along with its complex characteristics, often make it difficult to treat. The endodontic management of one tooth is described, as well as the successful treatment of a periradicular lesion.

Effect of 8-hour intermittent orthodontic force on osteoclasts and root resorption.

INTRODUCTION: The duration of force application is an important factor in optimizing orthodontic tooth movement with less root resorption. It has previously been shown that the amount of tooth movement achieved by 8-hour intermittent force application exceeds what would be the expected by the duration. The purpose of this study was to compare osteoclast recruitment and the extent of root resorption in response to an 8-hour intermittent force regimen with those from a continuous force. METHODS: Rat molars (n = 110) were assigned to 3 groups: 8-hour intermittent force, continuous force, and con
