Anti-dentine Salivary SIgA in young adults with a history of dental trauma in deciduous teeth.

Anti-dentin autoantibodies are associated with inflammatory root resorption in permanent teeth and are modulated by dental trauma and orthodontic force. However, it is not known whether deciduous tooth trauma can stimulate the development of a humoral immune response against dentin. The aim of this study was to evaluate the levels of salivary SIgA reactivity against human dentin extract in young adults with a history of trauma in the primary dentition. A sample of 78 patients, aged 18 to 25, who had completed an early childhood (0 to 5 years old) caries prevention program years earlier at the

Pathognomonic oral profile of Enamel Renal Syndrome (ERS) caused by recessive FAM20A mutations.

Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a genetically and clinically heterogeneous group of inherited dental enamel defects. Commonly described as an isolated trait, it may be observed concomitantly with other orodental and/or systemic features such as nephrocalcinosis in Enamel Renal Syndrome (ERS, MIM#204690), or gingival hyperplasia in Amelogenesis Imperfecta and Gingival Fibromatosis Syndrome (AIGFS, MIM#614253). Patients affected by ERS/AIGFS present a distinctive orodental phenotype consisting of generalized hypoplastic AI affecting both the primary and permanent dentition, delayed tooth eruptio

Cleidocranial dysplasia: maxillary alterations on the transverse plane. Presence of crown-radicular anomalies and multidisciplinary approach of a clinical case.

INTRODUCTION: Cleidocranial Dysplasia (CCD) is a rare inherited autosomal dominant congenital syndrome that occurs in approximately one out of every one million individuals worldwide; it primarily affects bones that undergo intra-membranous ossification, generally the skull and clavicles. Other bones may be affected such as the long bones, spine, pelvis, bones of hands and feet showing hypoplasia of distal phalanges. Indispensable is the role of the gene Runx2, necessary for the differentiation of odontoblasts and osteoblasts; it regulates the expression of many genes related to the developmen

Isolation and characterization of dental pulp stem cells from a patient with Papillon-Lefèvre syndrome.

INTRODUCTION: Papillon-Lefèvre syndrome (PLS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by immune dysregulation because of a mutation in cathepsin c gene, resulting in hyperkeratosis of the palms, soles, elbows, and knees combined with premature loss of the primary and permanent dentitions. Periodontal tissue abnormalities in PLS patients were reported previously. However, less is known about dental pulp tissue derived cells of PLS patients. This study aimed to show stem cell potential of PLS dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) and provide new evidence regarding the pathophysiology of th

Balancing the spatial demands of the developing dentition with the mechanical demands of the catarrhine mandibular symphysis.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

The superior transverse torus of the catarrhine mandible has been shown to effectively reduce bending at the symphysis during unilateral postcanine biting. While the adult superior transverse torus contains trabecular bone, the juvenile one is almost entirely filled by developing permanent incisors until their eruption. This study uses finite elements analysis (FEA) to investigate whether the presence of developing incisors in the juvenile symphysis increases strains on the superior transverse torus. Two FE models of a juvenile Macaca fascicularis mandible were created: one included all the de

Immediate self-replantation of an avulsed permanent mandibular incisor - a case report.

BACKGROUND: Approximately 50% of children under the age of 15 years are subjected to various kinds of injuries in the orofacial region. In the permanent dentition, the most severe dental injury affects the surrounding alveolar bone structure and leads to loss of the tooth. The current literature emphasizes that the awareness of appropriate triage procedures following dental trauma is unsatisfactory and that delay in treatment is the single most influential factor affecting prognosis. RESULTS: This case report presents the immediate self-replantation of a right lateral mandibular incisor of a

Morphology of the occlusal surfaces of premolar and molar teeth as an indicator of age in the horse.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of cheek tooth occlusal surface morphology as an indicator of age in the horse using a blinded cross-sectional design. Twenty horses of varying age, breed and sex were used. Horses of known age (foaling date) were euthanized for reasons other than dental disease. Following disarticulation of the head and sectioning of the mandibles, cheek teeth were cleaned using running water and photographs were taken of each arcade. Using a computer-based program, the total surface area of each premolar and molar, the outer enamel ridge perimeter distance

Dentofacial changes produced by extraoral forward force in the Macaca irus.

Eleven Macaca irus monkeys with a mixed or a permanent dentition were used in a study of the possible effects of extraoral forward force on the growth of the dentofacial skeleton. An intermittent forward force of 300 Gm. per side was applied, and the effects were analyzed by means of model casts, cephalometric radiographs, tetracycline bone marking, microradiographs, and histologic preparations. The results obtained were as follows: 1. An extraoral forward force caused significant changes in the circum-maxillary sutures and the maxillary tuberosity. 2. It was found that intermittent force of 3

An investigation into dentists' management methods of dental trauma to maxillary permanent incisors in Victoria, Australia.

Trauma to anterior teeth in children could become a long-term problem to dental health. To a large extent, the management actions of the dentists involved will determine the clinical outcome and, in turn, these actions will be related to their levels of knowledge. The aim of this study was to investigate dentists' knowledge of managing traumatic injuries to maxillary permanent incisors in children. A self-completion questionnaire containing 19 questions on management methods of treating dental trauma was mailed to 693 dentists in Victoria, Australia. The response rate achieved was 61%. This su
