Incorporating intraoperative blood pressure time-series variables to assist in prediction of acute kidney injury after type a acute aortic dissection repair: an interpretable machine learning model.

BACKGROUND: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and serious complication after the repair of Type A acute aortic dissection (TA-AAD). However, previous models have failed to account for the impact of blood pressure fluctuations on predictive performance. This study aims to develop machine learning (ML) models combined with intraoperative medicine and blood pressure time-series data to improve the accuracy of early prediction for postoperative AKI risk. METHODS: Indicators reflecting the duration and depth of hypotension were obtained by analyzing continuous mean arterial pressure (MAP) moni

Subconfluent ARPE-19 Cells Display Mesenchymal Cell-State Characteristics and Behave like Fibroblasts, Rather Than Epithelial Cells, in Experimental HCMV Infection Studies.

Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) has a broad cellular tropism and epithelial cells are important physiological targets during infection. The retinal pigment epithelial cell line ARPE-19 has been used to model HCMV infection in epithelial cells for decades and remains a commonly used cell type for studying viral entry, replication, and the cellular response to infection. We previously found that ARPE-19 cells, despite being derived from an epithelial cell explant, express extremely low levels of canonical epithelial proteins, such as E-cadherin and EpCAM. Here, we perform comparative studies of ARP

Wearable Sensor Technology to Predict Core Body Temperature: A Systematic Review.

Heat-related illnesses, which range from heat exhaustion to heatstroke, affect thousands of individuals worldwide every year and are characterized by extreme hyperthermia with the core body temperature (CBT) usually > 40 °C, decline in physical and athletic performance, CNS dysfunction, and, eventually, multiorgan failure. The measurement of CBT has been shown to predict heat-related illness and its severity, but the current measurement methods are not practical for use in high acuity and high motion settings due to their invasive and obstructive nature or excessive costs. Noninvasive predicti

Low-cost transcriptional diagnostic to accurately categorize lymphomas in low- and middle-income countries.

Inadequate diagnostics compromise cancer care across lower- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We hypothesized that an inexpensive gene expression assay using paraffin-embedded biopsy specimens from LMICs could distinguish lymphoma subtypes without pathologist input. We reviewed all biopsy specimens obtained at the Instituto de Cancerología y Hospital Dr. Bernardo Del Valle in Guatemala City between 2006 and 2018 for suspicion of lymphoma. Diagnoses were established based on the World Health Organization classification and then binned into 9 categories: nonmalignant, aggressive B-cell, diffu

From Spreadsheet To Prediction Tool: A Practical Artificial Intelligence Guide For Urologists.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are transforming urological practice; however, most clinicians lack the technical background required to develop, evaluate, or critically appraise predictive models. Existing resources are often written by data scientists for a technical audience, highlighting the need for a practical, clinician-oriented framework that enables urologists to build and deploy meaningful AI tools using data they already possess. Following an overview of the AI landscape in urology, we present a structured nine-part framework that includes clinical data apprai

Developing and Interpreting a Machine Learning Model for Identifying Liver Metastasis in Gastric Cancer.

IntroductionLiver metastasis (LM) is the most common site of distant metastasis in gastric cancer (GC), significantly affecting patient prognosis. This study developed a machine learning (ML) model to predict the risk of liver metastasis in gastric cancer patients using data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.MethodsData from eligible GC patients between 2010 and 2015 were collected from the SEER database. Stratified randomization divided the data into a training set (70%, n=7671) and a validation set (30%, n=3287). Univariate and multivariate logistic regress

Telemedicine adoption in cardiology: Determinants and predictors identified using Bayesian Model Averaging and Machine Learning.

In this secondary analysis of a German cross-sectional survey data, we investigated key determinants and predictors of telemedicine (TM) use among healthcare professionals (HCPs) treating cardiology patients. We applied Bayesian Model Averaging (BMA) for explanatory analysis and Machine Learning (ML) for predictive modeling. BMA identified TM determinants after excluding collinear variables and selecting variables based on LASSO regression. The extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) ML algorithm predicted TM use and identified key predictors, using nested cross-validation to prevent overfitting.

Research Frontiers in Numerical Simulation and Mechanical Modeling of Ceramic Matrix Composites: Bibliometric Analysis and Hotspot Trends from 2000 to 2025.

Ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) exhibit excellent high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and fracture toughness, making them superior to traditional metals and single-phase ceramics in extreme environments such as aerospace, nuclear energy equipment, and high-temperature protection systems. The mechanical properties of CMCs directly influence the reliability and service life of structures; thus, accurately predicting their mechanical response and service behavior has become a core issue in current research. However, the multi-phase heterogeneity of CMCs leads to highly complex stres
