INTRODUCTION: subtalar dislocations, typical of high-energy trauma, are classified as medial, lateral, anterior or posterior depending on the deviation of the foot in relation to the talus. Lateral dislocation accounts for 17% of the total and has a worse prognosis. Immediate reduction is required to reduce the risk of sequelae, the incidence of which is around 90%.

The reconstructive surgeon experienced in the use of rotated or free muscle and myocutaneous flaps, skilled in microvascular surgery, and interested in lower extremity trauma, may favorably alter the course of management of these historically difficult problems. It can be of great advantage to the patient if this surgeon is involved in the primary evaluation, so that all initial therapy can be performed with the future reconstructive goals in mind.

This study describes the orthopedic treatment and utilization of health care obtained by 2,333 patients in the population of Rochester, Minnesota, who suffered 2,519 limb fractures during the period 1969 through 1971. Overall, 24% of fracture occurrences required patient hospitalization, the remainder involving care on an ambulatory basis only. AIMS: After intercalary resection of a bone tumour from the femur, reconstruction with a vascularized fibular graft (VFG) and massive allograft is considered a reliable method of treatment. However, little is known about the long-term outcome of this procedure. The aims of this study were to determine whether the morbidity of this procedure was comparable to that of other reconstructive techniques, if it was possible to achieve a satisfactory functional result, and whether biological reconstruction with a VFG and massive allograft could achieve a durable, long-lasting reconstruction.

Human myiasis caused by Calliphora vicina is rare in Europe. Here we report a case of C. vicina infection occurring in the traumatic leg wound of a healthy 21-year-old man. Firstly, a progressive necrotizing infection developed in the wound despite administration of antibiotics. Aeromonas hydrophila was isolated from the wound samples. Secondly, during debridement, C. vicina first-instar larvae were isolated from the wound. To our knowledge, this is the first European case of C. vicina wound myiasis associated with severe A. hydrophila infection.

Eighteen cases of congenital pseudarthrosis of the leg in 17 children were treated by nailing and tibio-fibular graft with a mean follow-up of six years (from one to twelve years).
