A protein with the activity of phospholipase A(2) named asAPLA(2) was purified to homogeneity from the venom of Agkistrodon shedaoensis Zhao through DEAE-Sepharose CL-6B anion exchange column, Source S, and Mono Q FPLC. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play crucial roles in tumor progression. To investigate the roles of MMPs in the progression of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), the expression of MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-7, MMP-12, MMP-13, MMP-14, and MMP-19 was explored by microarray assay. Dextromethorphan (DM), an antitussive widely available in over-the-counter, has been abused mostly in teenage groups at high doses. To examine effects of DM on the reward pathway, we injected a high dose of DM (40 mg/kg; intraperitoneally) into the adolescent rat and measured tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) mRNA by in situ hybridization in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and the substantia nigra (SN). PURPOSE: Studies were conducted to determine the acute effect of exposure to ionizing radiation on inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) activity and expression in the rat ileum and colon.
