Melatonin, its agonists/antagonists were administered intrathecally (i.t.) before/after intradermal injection of capsaicin. Detergent-extracted recombinant Omp31 (rOmp31 extract) from Brucella melitensis produced in Escherichia coli was previously identified as a protective immunogen against B. ovis in mice. In this study, we evaluated the immunogenicity of rOmp31extract in rams. This immunogen was emulsified in an oil adjuvant and administered three times with 4 and 8 weeks intervals. Antibody response was measured in serum by whole B. ovis ELISA. Specific antibodies to purified rOmp31 (pET-Omp31) were detected by Western blotting and indirect ELISA. An outpatients department based survey conducted in Calcutta amongst 1349 established cases of tuberculosis (TB) revealed 0.67% human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected cases. Those affected by HIV and TB did not show any deviation from epidemiological pattern of HIV infection in India. All contracted HIV infection by heterosexual route, mostly from Bombay (47.8%) followed by West Bengal (30.4%). We have studied the vasoconstrictor potency of ornipressin in the skin of 30 volunteers. Subjects received intradermal injections (50 microliters) of five different concentrations of ornipressin (10(-4) - 10(0) u. ml-1 in 0.9% saline) and plain 0.9% saline as a control.
