Experiences of infertility-related traumatic events and their association with symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex PTSD: results from a mixed-methods online survey.

STUDY QUESTION: What are experiences of infertility-related traumatic events and are these associated with symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex PTSD (CPTSD)? SUMMARY ANSWER: Infertility-related trauma results from the interplay between a strong unfulfilled desire for children, negative reproductive events and (lack of) associated care, with 9% and 32% of those reporting a traumatic event meeting criteria for PTSD and CPTSD, respectively. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: There is worldwide recognition that fertility treatment is highly stressful, but limited understanding of it

[Social and professional effects of hip prosthetic replacment on people under 50 years of age].

UNLABELLED: Although total hip prosthetic replacement is a common surgical procedure, it is not without social and professional consequences. In a certain number of cases, return to occupational activities is not possible. In others, it is difficult. Long-term work break repercussions can be major as they often go together with financial difficulties. The medical counsultant and the occupational doctor will have an important role to play at the time of the return to occupational activities or to determine the conditions of workplace adaptation or a vocational training program.Functional recove

Cumulative burden of psychiatric disorders and self-harm across 26 adult cancers.

Cancer is a life-altering event causing considerable psychological distress. However, information on the total burden of psychiatric disorders across all common adult cancers and therapy exposures has remained scarce. Here, we estimated the risk of self-harm after incident psychiatric disorder diagnosis in patients with cancer and the risk of unnatural deaths after self-harm in 459,542 individuals. Depression was the most common psychiatric disorder in patients with cancer. Patients who received chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery had the highest cumulative burden of psychiatric disorders.

BackgroundAlthough adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors have an increased risk of psychiatric disorders, limited evidence has been suggested. We aimed to determine the risk of psychiatric disorders among AYA cancer survivors.Materials and methodsA retrospective population-based cohort study based on the Korea National Health Insurance Service database was carried out. All men and women aged 15-39 years diagnosed with cancer between 2006 and 2019 (N = 88 965) were included and matched with controls (1 : 4). Associations of cognitive appraisal and patient activation on disability and mental health outcomes: a prospective cohort study of patients undergoing spine surgery.

BackgroundWith the increased use of patient-reported outcomes measures (PROMs) to assess spine surgery outcomes, it is important to understand how patients interpret their health changes over time. The measurement of cognitive-appraisal processes enables the quantification of how individuals think about quality of life (QOL). This study examined how appraisal processes were associated with patients' views of their role in managing their health-patient activation.MethodsThis longitudinal cohort study from August 2019 to January 2022 included 222 adults undergoing spine surgery for cervical (n =

Patient-reported outcomes in CD30-directed CAR-T cells against relapsed/refractory CD30+ lymphomas.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cells targeting CD30 have demonstrated high response rates with durable remissions observed in a subset of patients with relapsed/refractory CD30+ hematologic malignancies, particularly classical Hodgkin lymphoma. This therapy has low rates of toxicity including cytokine release syndrome with no neurotoxicity observed in our phase 2 study. We collected patient-reported outcomes (PROs) on patients treated with CD30 directed CAR-T cells to evaluate the impact of this therapy on their symptom experience. We collected PROs including PROMIS (Patient-Reported Outcom

Depression and anxiety among people living with and beyond cancer: a growing clinical and research priority.

BackgroundA cancer diagnosis can have a substantial impact on mental health and wellbeing. Depression and anxiety may hinder cancer treatment and recovery, as well as quality of life and survival. We argue that more research is needed to prevent and treat co-morbid depression and anxiety among people with cancer and that it requires greater clinical priority. For background and to support our argument, we synthesise existing systematic reviews relating to cancer and common mental disorders, focusing on depression and anxiety. We searched several electronic databases for relevant reviews on can
