PURPOSE: To evaluate the clinicopathologic characteristics of patients undergoing adjuvant surgery during postchemotherapy retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (PC-RPLND).
METHODS: From 2004 to 2010, 85 testicular cancer patients underwent PC-RPLND by a single surgeon (S.D.). A bilateral template approach was utilized with nerve-sparing technique whenever feasible. BACKGROUND: We investigated the efficacy and toxicity of a regimen consisting of paclitaxel and gemcitabine plus nedaplatin, a derivative of cisplatin (TGN) in patients with heavily pretreated cisplatin-refractory germ cell tumors (GCTs).
METHODS: Fifteen patients with advanced GCTs were treated with the TGN regimen. The combination chemotherapy consisted of paclitaxel (210 mg/m(2)) on day 1 and gemcitabine (1000 mg/m(2)) on days 1 and 8 in combination with nedaplatin (100 mg/m(2)) on day 2 every 3 weeks.

Patients with intracranial germ cell tumor (IGCT) often present with pituitary dysfunction, including diabetes insipidus (DI). Recent protocols have used pre-radiation chemotherapy with combinations of etoposide, carboplatin and/or cisplatin, and ifosfamide. Management of DI in these patients requires monitoring of electrolytes and fluids during chemotherapy and hyperhydration. Undifferentiated (embryonal) sarcoma (UES) of the liver is a very rare pediatric neoplasm with an aggressive behavior. Multimodal treatment including complete surgical resection and chemotherapy has improved survival. We report a case of UES occurring in a 15-year-old female. Radiographic findings showed a multicystic mass appearance. The diagnosis of hydatid cyst was initially presumed. A complete tumor resection after 3 cycles of chemotherapy was performed. Histologically, only 20% of tumor necrosis was noted. Adjuvant chemotherapy was instituted. She remained well at 11 months of follow-up.
