The Somatic Engram and Reversal of Allostatic Load via Reconsolidation: A Technical Description of the RB7™ Protocol.

Developmental neurobiology indicates that baseline calibration of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis occurs predominantly during critical periods of plasticity (zero to five years). Early trauma may generate lifelong Allostatic Load, manifesting as a probable physiological substrate of psychosomatic disorders, treatment-resistant anxiety, and systemic dysfunctions, including chronic pain and metabolic sensitivities. Conventional therapies often operate via extinction mechanisms, which may suppress rather than modify the original fear trace. This article describes the RB7™ Protocol (

The impact of perinatal opioid exposure on neuronal and glial cell development: A consideration of prenatal versus postnatal exposure in animal models.

Prenatal opioid exposure (POE) is associated with abnormal brain structure and functioning in affected individuals, underscoring a need for preclinical models to discover the neuro-molecular origins of such deficits. Rodent models can recreate the developmental impacts of POE across all three trimesters by exposing offspring at equivalent brain stages before and after birth. However, studies using rodent models vary regarding whether prenatal, postnatal, or even pre-mating exposure are included. Without understanding how exposure timing influences brain changes, the findings of rodent models c

A Novel Abutment Screw Head Design with an Integrated Retrieval Feature: An In Vitro Study.

Background/Objectives: This study aimed to present the design of a novel abutment screw head featuring an integrated retrieval mechanism and to evaluate the retrievability of four prototype designs. Methods: In this in vitro mechanical study, the modified screws were produced by replicating the macrogeometry of the Brånemark and Klockner VEGA abutment screws and incorporating a secondary screw chamber below the original one, with a 1.0 mm or 0.9 mm hexagonal design. Sixty screws were manufactured, fifteen for each group: BC0.9, BC1.0, KC0.9, and KC1.0. Retrieval success and the relationship be

The Impact of Verb Speed on the Processing of Goal-Oriented Visual Scenes.

Research on mental simulation in language comprehension has yielded mixed findings, with some studies reporting evidence for sensorimotor simulation during language processing and others not. The current study is a conceptual cross-linguistic replication of two eye-tracking experiments on the online processing of speed-induced language originally conducted in English. Participants heard sentences containing a fast- or a slow-motion verb in Estonian (e.g., Laps vudis/tatsas puu juurde 'The child scurried/toddled to the tree.'), while their eye-movements to a corresponding image with an Agent, P

Extending standardized speech analysis across languages: An Italian toolkit for transcription and coding of neurological speech.

Speech and language analysis plays a central role in assessing adult neurological disorders, providing sensitive markers across clinical populations to support diagnosis. Standardized transcription and coding systems are essential to ensure reproducible analyses and enable comparisons across studies and languages. However, practical guidance on adapting such systems for non-English speakers remains limited. This work presents a structured toolkit for adapting speech and language transcription and coding conventions of adult speakers with neurological disorders from English to Italian. The adap

Research advances in chikungunya virus: Epidemiology, pathogenesis, and control.

Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is a mosquito-borne RNA virus endemic to tropical regions, where it causes recurrent outbreaks. Transmitted primarily by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, CHIKV has expanded from its origins in Africa to affect millions across Asia, the Americas, and East and Central Africa in recent decades. Infection results in chikungunya fever, a debilitating illness marked by acute fever and severe musculoskeletal symptoms-including persistent joint and muscle pain. These symptoms often continue for years, impairing health, quality of life, and economic productivity.

Treatment of Urinary Tract Infections with Gepotidacin: The Promising Antibiotic.

INTRODUCTION: It is always a daunting task to treat urinary tract infection (UTI) as these infections may be chronic or lead to complications and drug resistance. The bacteria form a biofilm, which results in the failure of the antibiotics. The common organisms include Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, and Enterococcus. Gepotidacin is considered to be the first-in-class oral triazaacenaphthylene bacterial topoisomerase inhibitor (NBTI). Recently, it was approved by the FDA for treating uncomplicated urinary tract infections in females aged 12 years and older. This literature review aims to evaluat

Whole-genome Sequence Analysis Revealed Novel Subjective Cognitive Decline-associated Genes in 10,763 Chinese.

Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) is widely regarded as a potential preclinical stage of Alzheimer's disease (AD), yet its genetic basis remains poorly understood. To address this gap, we investigated genetic biomarkers associated with SCD using whole-genome sequencing (WGS) in 10,763 Chinese participants from the Healthy Zhejiang One Million People Cohort (HOPE Cohort). The discovery stage included 9284 samples, with 1479 samples used for validation. Using a two-stage design, we systematically investigated both common and rare variants associated with SCD. In rare variant analyses, we identi

Demonstration of SLU7 as a new cancer target.

Cancer treatment remains challenging due to heterogeneous responses to immunotherapy across patients and tumor types. Innovative strategies are required to overcome immune evasion. We have identified the splicing factor SLU7 as essential for the survival of cancer cells from diverse origins. SLU7 knockdown induces R-loop accumulation, transcription-dependent genomic instability, DNA damage, and replication catastrophe, together with aberrant splicing and inhibition of nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) and/or DNA methylation. These alterations lead to the expression of neoantigens, interferon

Perisaccadic Attentional Updating in Area V4: A Neurocomputational Approach.

Psychophysical studies with human subjects investigated the dynamics of spatial visual attention around the time of saccades. They revealed that attention pointers remap against saccade direction, but at the same time show a lingering at the irrelevant retinotopic position after saccade. Involved brain areas have remained elusive. However, recordings from neurons in visual area V4 of macaques confirm remapping of spatial attention to a position opposite to the saccade direction shortly before saccade onset. Unexpectedly, in comparison with behavioral data from human subjects, a neural correlat

Bias in Visual Short-Term Memory for Motion Induced by Perceptually Suppressed Distractors.

Interference between visual short-term memory (VSTM) and task-irrelevant sensory distractors is a well-documented phenomenon across a wide range of visual features. Although this sensory-memory interference is believed to result from neural interactions between mnemonic and sensory processing, the nature of the interfering signals remains unclear, particularly whether the interference originates from physical stimuli entering the retina or the resulting subjective perception. Here we addressed this question by leveraging perceptual invariance during smooth pursuit eye movements, where retinal

Phylogenetic and Molecular Characteristics of An H3N8 Avian Influenza Virus Detected in Wild Birds - Beijing, China, September 2024.

WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN ABOUT THIS TOPIC?: The H3N8 avian influenza virus (AIV) demonstrates considerable capacity for interspecies transmission and has been documented in multiple mammalian hosts, including equine and canine species. During 2022-2023, three laboratory-confirmed human infections with H3N8 were reported in China, heightening public health concerns about the zoonotic spillover potential of H3 subtype AIVs. WHAT IS ADDED BY THIS REPORT?: This study reports the isolation of a genetically reassorted, low-pathogenicity H3N8 avian influenza virus (AIV) from an islet in Niukouyu Wetlan

A Spanish-language Adaptation of the Brief Wisconsin Inventory of Smoking Dependence Motives Among Mexican and Mexican-American Adults Who Smoke.

INTRODUCTION: The smoking pattern of Latino smokers differs from non-Latino white smokers such that physical dependence may not be a strong motivator for smoking among Latinos. Multidimensional measures of dependence may be more useful, but there is a lack of psychometrically sound multidimensional Spanish-language measures. This study evaluated the psychometric properties of a Spanish-language adaptation of the Brief Wisconsin Inventory of Dependence Motives (Brief WISDM) for use among Spanish-speaking Latino smokers in the United States. METHODS: Two hundred and eighty-seven Spanish-speakin

One and only SNARC? Spatial-Numerical Associations are not fully flexible and depend on both relative and absolute number magnitude.

Numbers are associated with space, but it is unclear how flexible these associations are. We investigated whether the SNARC effect (Spatial-Numerical Association of Response Codes; Dehaene et al. 1993 J. Exp. Psychol. 122, 371-396. Evidence for relative-magnitude dependency came from studies observing that numbers 4 and 5 were associated wi

Mini-cutting protocol and anatomical basis of adventitious rooting in Ocotea odorifera.

Ocotea odorifera (Vell.) Rohwer (Lauraceae), commonly known as canela-sassafrás, is a tree species native to the Atlantic Forest and valued for its essential oils used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and bioinsecticides. Developing an efficient mini-cutting protocol is fundamental for conservation efforts, as it provides a viable alternative for producing seedlings of this threatened species. This study evaluated the rooting of mini-cuttings collected during the four seasons of 2023 and treated with five concentrations of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), and investigated anatomical features associa

Longitudinal Monitoring of Mono- and Coinfections Involving Primary Porcine Reproductive Viruses (PCV2, PPV1, and PRRSV) as Well as Emerging Viruses (PCV3, PCV4, and nPPVs) in Primiparous and Multiparous Sows and Their Litters.

Porcine reproductive failure (PRF) has multiple etiological origins, primarily involving the viruses PCV2, PPV1, and PRRSV. Some emerging viruses, such as PCV3, PCV4, and novel parvoviruses (nPPVs), have also been suggested as contributors. In this study, we longitudinally evaluated 40 healthy sows (20 gilts and 20 multiparous sows) over three phases: pregnancy (PP), farrowing (FP), and their litters during lactation (LP). We detected viruses through PCR and serology in mono- and coinfections. The results showed that primary viruses were present during all three phases, with PCV2 being the mos

Prenatal stress alters mouse offspring dorsal striatal development and placental function in sex-specific ways.

Prenatal stress is a risk factor for neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), including autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, how early stress modification of brain development contributes to this pathophysiology is poorly understood. Ventral forebrain regions such as dorsal striatum are of particular interest: dorsal striatum modulates movement and cognition, is altered in NDDs, and has a primarily GABAergic population. Here, we examine effects of prenatal stress on adult movement, cognition, and dorsal striatum neurobiology in mice using striatal-dependent behavioral assays, immunohistochemis

Potential role of endocrine-disrupting chemicals in preeclampsia: A hypothesis based on integration of epidemiological and experimental evidence.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a complex hypertensive disorder and a leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity worldwide. Emerging evidence suggests that exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) may contribute to the etiology of PE, yet this association remains underexplored. This review aimed to investigate epidemiological and experimental studies assessing the potential link between EDC exposure and PE development. A literature search was conducted across PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar for original articles published in the last ten years. Forty studies were selected, inclu
