The purpose was to evaluate late complications of asymptomatic traumatized primary incisors with dark coronal discoloration. The clinical and radiographic signs of 97 teeth of the study group were recorded along a follow-up period that ranged between 12 and 75 months (mean >36 months). Children's age at time of injury ranged between 18 and 72 months (mean 40). The control group consisted of 102 non-discolored maxillary primary central incisors in 51 children older than 54 months with no history of dental trauma. In 50 teeth (52%) the color faded or became yellowish and in 47 (48%) it remained

BACKGROUND: Fluoride administration plays a critical role in the management and prophylaxis of dental caries. Research indicates that laser irradiation can enhance the uptake of fluoride into dental enamel, an effect that is particularly pronounced when used as an adjunct to topical fluoride treatments. The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of CO 2 laser irradiation on fluoride uptake in the enamel of permanent teeth.
METHODS: Six human upper premolars, extracted for orthodontic reasons, were selected for this study. The roots were separated from the crowns, and each crown was then s

This case report illustrates the teeth morphology of a chimpanzee and its anatomical variations. A well-preserved skull of a male Pan troglodytes troglodyte chimpanzee was scanned using a cone-beam computed tomography machine. Measurements included tooth and crown height, root length, root canal length and width (posterior teeth), and pulp cavity length (anterior teeth). Nonmetrical parameters included number of canals and foramina per root of every root. Interestingly, the mandibular central incisor was longer than the lateral incisor, and all the mandibular anterior teeth presented with a so

BACKGROUND: Dentinogenesis imperfecta is a genetic disorder of the dentin occurring during the tooth development. It leads to many structural changes that can be identified clinically (brownish colored teeth, cracked enamel) and radiologically (globular crown, cervical constriction, short roots, and obliterated pulp chamber and/or root canals). The aim of this study was to determine by panoramic radiographs assessment the incidence of dentinogenesis imperfecta in a group of patients attending a specialized maxillofacial imaging center in Paris, France.

Introduction. "Dens invaginatus" is a dental anomaly which originates from the invagination of the ameloblastic epithelium into the lingual surface of the dental crown during the odontogenesis. It can cause early pulpal necrosis, abscesses, retention or dislocation of contiguous elements, cysts, and internal resorptions. It normally affects the upper lateral incisors. In the following study the authors will discuss the etiology, the physiopathology, and the surgical-orthodontic management of a rare case of impacted canine associated with dens invaginatus and follicular cyst, with the aim of hi

This report deals with a case of Cleidocranial Dysplasia (CCD) associated to a rare mutation of the RUNX2 gene and a peculiar dental phenotype, namely no supernumerary teeth. The aim consists in evaluating the long-term follow-up after treatment and discussing the pathogenetic mechanism of the mutation. We have carried out a clinical evaluation after treatment and attempted to analyze the potential pathogenetic effect of the mutation, based upon the available experimental structure of RUNX family domain and the highly conserved homology of RUNX1-3. Clinically the treatment has led to tooth dev

This case report illustrates determination of prognosis and immediate resection carried out, before completing the endodontic therapy, during the surgery employed for managing a nonperiodontal problem. This case showed external pressure resorption in the distobuccal root of maxillary second molar caused by the impingement of impacted third molar. Extraction of third molar was decided when healing was not seen, despite initiating endodontic therapy in second molar. Following elevation of flap and extraction of third molar, the poor prognosis due to severe bone loss around the resorbed root was

This clinical report describes the traumatic avulsion of the left maxillary central and lateral incisors with minimal tissue trauma, followed by placement of provisional restorations of two root-form implants in a 14-year old female patient. Ten days following the avulsion, implant therapy was performed with Summers osteotomes and flapless technique using a root-form 3i osseotite NT. Angulated abutments and acrylic provisional crowns were placed. No occlusal contact was detected. An impression was made 30 days after implant insertion and ceramic restorations were placed 3 months later. No sign

Background/Objectives: The furcation region of primary molars is a critical anatomical zone with high clinical relevance in endodontics and restorative dentistry due to its proximity to the pulp chamber and potential accessory canal communications. This study aimed to quantitatively evaluate and compare dentin mineral density in the crown and furcation regions, as well as furcation structure thickness, maximum dentin thickness, and volume, between primary first and second molars using micro-computed tomography. Methods: Thirty-eight extracted primary molars (19 first and 19 second molars) with

INTRODUCTION: One of the most common esthetic complaints among dental patients is a gingival smile, which may be of multifactorial etiology, e.g. gingival hyperplasia, skeletal deformities featuring overgrowth of the anterior maxilla, altered passive eruption, maxillary alveolar tooth extrusion, fine lip and hypermobility of lip elevator muscles, which must be diagnosed prior to treatment so that the appropriate management approach can be selected. Maxillary overgrowth may give rise to subnasal skeletal depression where the upper lip retracts to during smiling, causing gingival exposure. The o

INTRODUCTION: The circumferential 2 mm ferrule during the fabrication of the crown is strongly advocated for the long-term clinical success. During the routine clinical practice, the dentist encounters the endodontically treated tooth (ETT) with inadequacy of the ferrule in some segment due to caries, abrasion, and erosions. The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the consequence of inadequate segmental ferrule location on fracture strength of the root canal-treated anterior and posterior teeth.

INTRODUCTION: Peri-implantitis is an inflammation of the soft and hard tissues surrounding an implant that results in the destruction of alveolar bone. Surgical flaps are usually elevated to allow for thorough debridement and disinfection of the implant surface. This frequently results in gingival recession, crown margin exposure, and a poor esthetic result. This is not desirable in the esthetic zone. In this case report, a minimally invasive flapless technique incorporating the use of curettage and antiseptics is used to successfully disinfect a contaminated dental implant to allow for soft t

INTRODUCTION: Long-term predictability of restored endodontically treated teeth is important for the decision of tooth retention versus extraction and implant placement. The purpose of this study was to validate the hypothesis that preoperative factors can predict the long-term prognosis of molars requiring endodontic and restorative treatment for future prognostic investigations.
METHODS: A clinical database was searched for molar endodontic treatments with crown placement and a minimum of 4-year follow-up. Charts of 42 patients with 50 individual treatments were randomly selected. Informati

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The structurally compromised root remains a restorative challenge to the general dental practitioner.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the fracture resistance of maxillary incisors with structurally compromised root canals, using 4 different post and core systems. A compromised root canal for the purpose of this study is defined as a flared canal resulting from destructive causes such as dental caries, tooth crown fractures, previous failing restorations or endodontic filing procedures.

The Targis/Vectris and Sculpture/FibreKor systems were devised to create a translucent maximally reinforced resin framework for fabrication of crowns, bridges, inlays, and onlays. These materials are esthetic, have translucency similar to castable glass-ceramics such as OPC and Empress, and have fits that are reported to be acceptable in clinical and laboratory trials. These restorations rely on proper bonding to the remaining tooth structure; therefore, careful attention to detail must be paid to this part of the procedure. Cementation procedures should involve silane treatment of the cleaned
