Determination of implant position for immediate implant placement in maxillary central incisors using palatal soft tissue landmarks.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to suggest a clinical guideline to properly position immediate implant placement in the anterior maxillary area. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The computed tomography (CT) records of 250 patients (125 males, 125 females; mean age 49.5 years) were evaluated, and the relationship of the sagittal root positions of the maxillary central incisor teeth to their respective alveolar bony housing was classified as buccal (B), medial (M), or palatal (P). Then, the clinical guideline was suggested based on the implications derived from the classification. In the second invest

Radiographic detection of artificially created horizontal root fracture using different cone beam CT units with small fields of view.

OBJECTIVES: To compare limited cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) units with different field of views (FOVs) and voxel sizes in detecting artificially created horizontal root fracture (HRF) in extracted human teeth. METHODS: Artificial HRF was created in the horizontal plane in 40 teeth. Another 40 intact teeth served as a control group. 80 teeth were placed in the respective maxillary anterior sockets of a human dry skull in groups. Six image sets were obtained: (1) Accuitomo 170, 40 × 40 mm FOV (0.080 mm(3)); (2) Accuitomo 170, 60 × 60 mm FOV (0.125 mm(3)); (3) Kodak 9000, 50 × 37 mm

Camel bite injury to the maxillofacial region: unusual cause and uncommon location.

Animal bite injuries are prevalent worldwide, but the causative animal and the spectrum of injuries are dependent on the kind of animals cohabitating with the human population. Camel bites as a cause are relatively rare. Camels are particularly aggressive, especially during the mating season, when conflicts between the males occasionally lead to dangerous fights resulting in the death of one or both of the combatants. We present a case of camel bite injury to the maxillofacial region inducing an uncommon fracture and the management of both soft and hard tissue injuries, especially addressing t

The use of resorbable hardware for fixation of pediatric mandible fracture. Case report.

The diagnosis and management of mandible fractures in the pediatric patient population can pose multiple challenges to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Resorbable plates and screws for fixation in this population are both well tolerated and effective. They enable realignment and stable positioning of rapidly healing fracture segments, while obviating any potential impediments to long-term metal retention.

Rebound-associated vertebral fractures after discontinuation of denosumab for the treatment of maxillitis.

We reported a 69-year-old female who discontinued denosumab due to dental treatment and subsequently suffered rebound-associated vertebral fractures 10 months after the last injection. This case raised an alarm regarding the discontinuation of denosumab for dental treatment. Denosumab, a human monoclonal antibody administered by subcutaneous injection, to the best of our knowledge, is the only fully investigated inhibitor of receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand. Discontinuation of denosumab leads to bone turnover rebound and rapid bone mineral density loss. Several studies have

Definitive abutment-driven stage-two surgery as a means to reduce peri-implant soft tissue changes: introduction of a new concept.

This report introduces an innovative approach for optimizing esthetics and minimizing soft tissue changes in clinical scenarios that involve extensive site preparation and submerged implants. The existing soft tissue morphology is registered at the time of implant uncovery, and an optimal peri-implant transmucosal contour is created indirectly in the lab. The customized definitive abutment is inserted during stage-two surgery and subsequently guides the peri-implant soft tissue, replicating an optimal emergence profile. The concept is demonstrated through the presentation of two clinical cases

Periodontal tissue responses following vertical root fracture repair with 4-META/MMA-TBB resin mixed with nano-hydroxyapatite.

PURPOSE: Vertical root fracture (VRF) repair remains clinically challenging because of poor periodontal regenerative capacity, often leading to persistent deep periodontal pockets and impaired healing. This study aimed to evaluate periodontal tissue responses after VRF repair using 4-methacryloxyethyl trimellitate anhydride/methyl methacrylate tri-n-butylborane (4-META/MMA-TBB) resin cement (Super-Bond, SB) and nano-hydroxyapatite (naHAp)-incorporated SB (naHAp/SB) in a rat model. METHODS: VRFs were induced in both maxillary first molars of Sprague-Dawley rats. Each fracture was repaired with

Direct Clinical Evidence of Long-term Hard-tissue Repair after Miniature/Tampon Pulpotomy: An Accidental Re-entry Case after Six Years.

Vital pulp therapy (VPT) has become an established biologically-based treatment for preserving pulp vitality in mature permanent teeth with irreversible pulpitis. Although long-term clinical success has been widely reported, direct clinical evidence demonstrating the biological outcome beneath the pulp-capping material years after treatment is exceptionally rare because successfully treated teeth seldom require re-entry. A mature mandibular first molar diagnosed with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis associated with symptomatic apical periodontitis underwent a miniature pulpotomy. Because conv
