We isolated and purified to homogeneity a caseinolytic protease from a Nocardia brasiliensis cell extract. Preparative polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and electroelution were employed for purification. This purified protease was injected in BALB/c mice and induced IgM and IgG anti-protease antibodies. Bladder cancer (BC) remains a major therapeutic challenge, particularly in patients with acquired resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy. In this study, we investigated the potential of hinokiflavone (HNK), a natural biflavonoid, as a therapeutic agent against cisplatin-resistant BC. In this study we compared the host response to Listeria monocytogenes in 129 REJ mice with listeria-resistant (C57Bl/6j) and susceptible (Balb/c) mouse strains. Experiments were made on rats to study the effect of protein deficiency, amino acid unbalance and vitamin B1, A, E, C deficiency on the weight gain of rats, on the eating up of feed, the blood content of nitrogenous components and their excretion with urine and feces. The feeding of the diets deficient in protein, essential amino acids and vitamins leads to substantial changes in nitrogenous metabolism. Such alimentary disorders are followed by the reduced assimilability and biological value of food proteins.

Agar media made with 0.4% colloidal chitin plus mineral salts and adjusted to pH 8.0 was superior to four other commonly used media for the isolation and enumeration of actinomycetes from water samples. More actinomycetes developed on chitin agar, and the development of bacteria and fungi was suppressed. Frozen and vacuum-dried chitin from aqueous colloidal suspensions was finely divided and gave results comparable to those obtained with media prepared from colloidal suspensions.
