Changes in the ABCD Keratoconus Grade After Intracorneal Ring Segment Implantation.

PURPOSE: To assess the changes in the ABCD keratoconus staging system 6 months after intracorneal ring segment implantation. METHODS: Fifty eyes of 50 patients with keratoconus who were implanted with the Keraring (Mediphacos, Belo Horizonte, Brazil) using the femtosecond laser were assessed. Preoperative and postoperative assessments included determination of distance uncorrected visual acuity and distance corrected visual acuity (DCVA), refraction, and Scheimpflug tomography with the Pentacam HR. In the ABCD keratoconus staging system, the elements A, B, C, and D stand for anterior and post

Stepwise Guided Photorefractive Keratectomy in Treatment of Irregular Astigmatism After Penetrating Keratoplasty and Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty.

PURPOSE: To report the outcome of stepwise ablation using topography-guided photorefractive keratectomy to treat irregular astigmatism after either penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) or deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK). METHODS: This is a retrospective, interventional analysis including patients with irregular astigmatism after either PKP or DALK, who underwent topography-guided photorefractive keratectomy. The entire cohort was analyzed, as well as the PKP and DALK groups separately. Analysis of factors associated with a better outcome was also performed. RESULTS: Thirty-four eyes of

Graft rejection after femtosecond laser--assisted deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty: report of 3 cases.

PURPOSE: To report 3 cases of stromal rejection after deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) assisted by a femtosecond laser. METHODS: Three keratoconus eyes of 2 men (22 and 30 years old) and 1 woman (24 years old) who had DALK with a 60-kHz femtosecond laser developed intrastromal graft rejection with superficial and deep neovascularization after 6, 15, and 12 months, respectively. All patients underwent confocal microscopy and were treated with topical steroid therapy. RESULTS: In vivo confocal microscopy revealed cellular inflammatory infiltrates in the subepithelial and middle strom

DESIGN: Retrospective nonrandomized comparative trial. METHODS: Medical records of 39 patients (42 eyes) who underwent a PTK or DB procedure for recurrent corneal erosions associated with ABM dystrophy between March 1992 and June 2000 were reviewed. A pilot study on SMILE-derived lenticule patch implantation: stromal augmentation for various corneal pathologies.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the initial clinical outcomes of a small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE)-derived lenticule patch graft for the management of corneal defects. METHODS: Patients who underwent SMILE-derived lenticule patch graft implantation with sutures between 2016 and 2020 at 2 different tertiary-care referral hospitals were evaluated retrospectively. The etiology, logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR)-equivalent best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), and globe integrity were evaluated. Additional surgical interventions and secondary surgeries were recorded. The fol

To study the anatomic and intraoperative factors responsible for gas bubble migration in the anterior chamber during femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) flap creation.

PURPOSE: This study investigates the factors responsible for gas bubble migration into the anterior chamber during femtosecond-assisted laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) flap creation. METHODS: A retrospective data analysis was conducted on 20 eyes of 12 patients undergoing bilateral laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis surgery, where intraoperative gas bubble migration was observed. Data from age-matched controls without gas bubble migration were also analyzed. Various preoperative and intraoperative parameters were compared between the groups, including refractive error, ker

The visual quality of patients with myopia and presbyopia after ICL V4c implantation and FS-LASIK using monovision design.

BACKGROUND: Long-term visual quality of myopes with presbyopia was investigated after implantable collamer lens (ICL) V4c implantation and femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) surgery using a monovision design. METHODS: Fifty-eight patients (116 eyes) were enrolled and average final follow-up time was 55.38 ± 19.38 months. Routine ocular examinations (manifest refraction, axial length, and anterior segment biological parameters), were performed before and after the surgeries. Patients' objective visual quality was evaluated using contrast sensitivity (CS) parameters an

Effect of Posterior Keratometry and Corneal Radius Ratio on the Accuracy of Intraocular Lens Formulas After Myopic LASIK/PRK.

PURPOSE: To investigate the impact of back-to-front corneal radius ratio (B/F ratio) and posterior keratometry (PK) on the accuracy of intraocular lens power calculation formulas in eyes after myopic laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK)/photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) surgery. METHODS: A retrospective, consecutive case series study included 101 patients (132 eyes) with cataract after myopic LASIK/PRK. Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis or photorefractive keratectomy after descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty.

PURPOSE: To report the outcomes of laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) after Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK). METHODS: A retrospective case series was conducted on 5 postoperative unilateral DSAEK cases that underwent LASIK or PRK. Acute coronary syndrome associated with probable immunoglobulin G4-related coronary periarteritis successfully treated with a drug-coated balloon.

UNLABELLED: Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a systemic inflammatory disorder that can rarely affect the coronary arteries, leading to acute coronary syndrome (ACS). A 68-year-old man with IgG4-RD presented with exertional chest pain. An electrocardiogram showing ST-segment elevation in II, III, aVF leads, and rising troponin levels confirmed ACS. Emergent coronary angiography (CAG) revealed right coronary artery occlusion, and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) showed vasculitis-related coronary pathology. Based on these findings and the patient's clinical background, ACS secondary

PURPOSE: To describe long-term visual, refractive, and topographic outcomes after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) in keratoconus patients treated before corneal cross-linking (CXL) became available. SETTING: Single private ophthalmic center in Bogotá, Colombia. DESIGN: Retrospective observational study. Canadian Consensus Guidelines for the Management of Vitiligo.

INTRODUCTION: Vitiligo remains a highly burdensome disease associated with significant autoimmune and psychosocial comorbidities. Although the therapeutic landscape has long been dominated by off-label therapy, new treatments are emerging. Limited guidance on how to safely and effectively utilize available therapies poses challenges for healthcare providers. Herein, we provide generally accepted principles, consensus recommendations, and a treatment algorithm for the management of vitiligo, as developed by a panel of ten Canadian dermatologists with expertise in managing vitiligo. METHODS: Th

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to assess the clinical outcomes of combined interventional therapy (CIT) for below-the-knee (BTK) arterial lesions in individuals with diabetic foot (DF). METHODS: A prospective cohort study was conducted involving 138 patients with DF and BTK arterial lesions who underwent BTK arterial revascularization. Participants were assigned to one of 2 treatment groups: the control group received percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) with a drug-coated balloon (DCB), while the experimental group underwent excimer laser atherectomy (ELA) followed by DCB-PTA.
