How significant is the assessment of the DSM-5 'anxious distress' specifier in patients with major depressive disorder without comorbid anxiety disorders in the continuation/maintenance phase?

OBJECTIVE: Anxious distress (ANXD), which is common in major depressive disorder (MDD), is associated with poor outcomes. We investigated clinical characteristics of MDD patients with the DSM-5 ANXD specifier and only mild residual symptoms without comorbid anxiety disorders in the continuation/maintenance phase. METHODS: We recruited 110 outpatients with MDD without comorbid anxiety disorders. They were interviewed; the presence of the DSM-5 ANXD specifier was assessed. They completed the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS), the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (S-EPQ), the

METHODS: Participants were recruited from public medical (N = 502) and nursing schools (N = 500) from April to September 2016 in Singapore for this cross-sectional survey, and

Association between blood lipid levels and personality traits in young Korean women.

Abnormal lipid levels are important etiological factors associated with the development of atherosclerosis and with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Lipid levels are also influenced by lifestyle and behavioral factors, which suggests that personality traits might be related to abnormal lipid profiles. Studies on personality traits and lipid levels are relatively scarce in Korea. Therefore, the objective of this study was to examine the association between lipid levels and personality traits in young Korean women. A total of 1,701 young Korean women [mean age  = 24.9±4.6 years

GOALS OF WORK: This study examines the relationships between personality, on the one hand, and perceived availability of social support (PASS) and satisfaction with received social support (SRSS), on the other hand, in women with early stage breast cancer (BC). In addition, this study examined whether a stressful event (i.e., diagnosis) is associated with quality of life (QOL), when controlling for PASS and SRSS. PATIENTS AND METHOD: Women were assessed on PASS and SRSS (World Health Organization QOL assessment instrument-100) before diagnosis (time 1) and 1 (time 2), 3 (time 3), 6 (time 4),

[Psychological comorbidity in patients with alarming chest pain symptoms].

About 1/3 of patients with chest pain undergoing coronary arteriography (CA) have no coronary artery disease (CAD). Individuals with non-CAD chest pain may be younger and more likely to be female; they may express higher degrees of neuroticism. Are those features stable enough to justifi; exclusion from CA if present? To investigate this issue, data on psychodiagnostic parameters (depression, anxiety, somatic complaints) were obtained in patients before this were referred to CA. Inclusion criteria were a chief complaint of chest pain with episodes of angina-like pain at rest, suspicious enough

Agoraphobia, panic disorder and generalized anxiety disorder: some implications of recent advances.

The nature of the relationship between 'panic disorder', agoraphobia and general anxiety disorder remains open. The aetiological theories which have tried to link them with the aid of biological and psychological concepts fail to take account of conflicting observations. 'Panic' attacks are not confined to agoraphobic and related disorders, being indistinguishable from the attacks of acute anxiety and phobic aversion manifest in a wide range of anxiety and affective disorders. There is continuity and discontinuity in the evolution of agoraphobia; those affected differ in respect of a range of

OBJECTIVES: We aim to evaluate the prevalence of suicidal ideation and to explore factors associated with suicidal ideation in patients with inflammatory rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (iRMD). METHODS: Patients with iRMD with suicidal ideation were identified in an observational cohort as cases through the PHQ-9 and were age, gender and disease-matched (1:3) with iRMD patients without suicidal ideations as controls. Patients and disease characteristics as well as risk factors for possibly committing suicide were evaluated in all patients. A standardized clinical interview was conducte

[Relationship between early maladaptive schemas and quality of life in women with infertility].

INTRODUCTION: Prolonged childlessness, despite the desire to have children, imposes burdens across somatic, psychological, and social-relational domains. These challenges may be further amplified by early maladaptive schemas, which shape emotional functioning, self-esteem, and stress regulation, thereby potentially influencing quality of life and experiences related to fertility treatments. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the impact of early maladaptive schemas on the quality of life of infertile women and to explore the associations between these schemas and personality factors th

Associations between normative personality traits and impairments in personality functioning in a clinical adolescent sample.

Personality disorders are increasingly conceptualized within dimensional models in terms of impairments in personality functioning (identity, self-direction, empathy, and intimacy) and maladaptive personality traits. Adolescence represents a critical developmental period for the emergence of personality pathology; however, empirical studies examining the relationship between personality functioning and normative personality traits in clinical adolescent samples remain scarce. Given that maladaptive traits can be understood as extreme variants of normative personality traits, examining the latt

Psychosocial and behavioral risk patterns and risk of cardiovascular complications in people with type 2 diabetes.

INTRODUCTION: Psychosocial and behavioral risk factors often co-occur in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). The clustering of these risk factors and their role in predisposing patients to cardiovascular complications is not well understood. This study aims to identify patient subgroups with distinct psychological and behavioral risk patterns and evaluate the long-term risk of cardiovascular complications associated with these risk patterns. METHODS: A total of 24,467 patients with T2D were identified from the UK Biobank (mean age 59 years, 86.7 %white), used Latent Class Analysis (LCA) to d

Suicidal behaviour among the university students in the UK: A systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Identifying risk factors would help consider suicide prevention in any specific population. We aimed to assess suicidal behaviour among university students in the UK. METHODS: An extensive keyword search was conducted through PubMed, Cochrane, CINHAL Plus, PubMed Central, Web of Science, Trip database, and Science Direct, following the PRISMA guidelines to identify different publications. The search strategy for the literature review was based on the Population Exposure Outcome framework. Critical appraisal utilised the CASP tool for cohort studies and the AXIS tool for cross-se

Relationship between burnout levels of nurses and their circadian preference, sleep quality, and personality traits.

Occupational stress and burnout are widely encountered among many healthcare professionals, including nurses and doctors, as well as among members of other professions. For example, nurses, who have disrupted circadian rhythms, are seen to have sleep problems. In addition, their personality traits are also considered to be related with burnout. This study aimed to identify nurses' circadian preference and personality traits along with their effects on sleep quality and their relationship with burnout. In this study, 211 nurses (40 male, 171 female) using the correlational model from quantitati

Depressive rumination and trait anxiety mediate the effects of childhood victimization on adulthood depressive symptoms in adult volunteers.

BACKGROUND: Prior studies have reported that childhood victimization experiences substantially augment the risk of depression and suicide in adulthood. Several of our previous studies suggested that childhood experiences of victimization interact with the quality of parenting experienced in childhood, childhood experiences of abuse, neuroticism, and other factors to influence depressive symptoms in adulthood. In this study, it was hypothesized that "childhood victimization" worsens "trait anxiety" and "depressive rumination", and that "trait anxiety" and "depressive rumination" are mediators t
