Twenty rats were randomized into a vesicosigmoidostomy and an unoperated control group. In both groups the 24 hour excretion of secondary amines, nitrate, nitrite and nitrosamines was measured before and after gavage of proline and nitrate, piperazine and nitrate, N-nitrosoproline, mono-N-nitrosopiperazine. The urinary nitrosamine concentrations were not significantly different between both groups neither before nor after application of the several substances. The prognostic significance of silver-binding nucleolar organizing regions (AgNORs) has been evaluated in tissue sections of biopsies taken from 70 primary adenocarcinomas of the colon sigmoid (n = 25) and rectum (n = 45) prior to their curative resection. BACKGROUND: The impact of primary tumor location on overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and long-term outcomes has not been well established in patients undergoing potentially curative resection of colorectal liver metastases (CRLM).
METHODS: A single-institution database was queried for initial resections for CRLM 1992-2004. Primary tumor location determined by chart review (right = cecum to transverse; left = splenic flexure to sigmoid). Rectal cancer (distal 16 cm), multiple primaries, and unknown location were excluded. Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression methods were used.

BACKGROUND: We previously reported that the ileocecal rectal bladder consists of interposition of an intussuscepted ileocecal segment between the ureters and the rectum for those in whom the urethra is not available. Although the ileocecal rectal bladder has been well accepted by most patients, it requires an extensive preparation along the ascending colon. Data on 47 patients who underwent sigmoidocystoplasty after total cystectomy for bladder cancer from 1960 to 1979 are presented. The overall survival rates were 53.3 per cent at 5 years and 41.3 per cent at 10 years, respectively. The urethral recurrence of cancer occurred in 8 (17 per cent) patients with bladder neck or multiple cancers. Review of 31 cases of enterovesical fistulas treated at the Departments of Urology and General Surgery during the period 1970-1982. In 20 cases (64.5%) the underlying cause was a carcinoma (overall colorectal neoplasm) and in 7 cases (23%) it was an inflammatory disease.
