OBJECTIVE: To shift the weight-bearing axis of the lower limb medially by opening a lateral-based metaphyseal osteotomy at the distal femur.
INDICATIONS: Femoral-based valgus malalignment and symptomatic lateral unicompartimental osteoarthritis, lateral hyperpression syndrome, cartilage therapy of the lateral compartment, lateral meniscal replacement/transplantation, medial instability with valgus thrust, reconstruction of the medial collateral ligament, patellar instability and/or maltracking.

BACKGROUND: Patellofemoral instability affects activities of daily living and hinders athletic participation. Over the past 2 decades, more attention has been paid to medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction for the treatment of recurrent patellar dislocations/subluxations. PURPOSE: Diagnosing periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) are challenging and may be hampered by the presence of other causes of local inflammation. Conventional synovial and serum markers are not reliable under these circumstances. Twenty-nine patients who had diabetic neuropathic arthropathy of the foot and ankle were managed with open reduction and arthrodesis of various joints. Rigid internal fixation was used in all but four patients, who had external fixation. All patients had severe instability or a fixed deformity that precluded successful treatment with bracing. METHODS: In this population based cross-sectional study 940,763 medical records of Israeli adolescents and young adults in military service were reviewed. Demographic and medical data were extracted. The prevalence of ligament injuries, habitual orthopedic deformities and umbilical/inguinal hernia was evaluated in cases with and without keratoconus.
