Miniscrews: a simple alternative for complex treatments.

The use of mini-implants has already considerably changed the way we plan and perform a large number of orthodontic treatments to the point where, today, we can envisage taking a fresh look at some of our "classical" treatment options. This article will describe a number of clinical cases drawn from several years' experience of working with miniscrews. We present first a brief flashback and an overview of the different indications for micro-implants followed by four case studies presenting treatments which, without miniscrews, would have been treated by much more aggressive approaches.

Replacement of a first molar and 3 second molars by the mesial inclination of 4 impacted third molars in an adult with a Class II Division 1 malocclusion.

This case report presents the successful replacement of 1 first molar and 3 second molars by the mesial inclination of 4 impacted third molars. A woman, 23 years 6 months old, had a chief complaint of crowding of her anterior teeth and linguoclination of a second molar on the left side. The panoramic radiographic images showed that the maxillary and mandibular third molars on both sides were impacted. Root resorption on the distal surfaces of the maxillary second molars was suspected. The patient was given a diagnosis of Angle Class II Division 1 malocclusion with severe crowding of the anteri

Early Orthodontic Tooth Movement into Regenerative Bony Defects: A Case Report.

Early orthodontic tooth movement following regenerative surgery is controversial. In this case, during protraction of the maxillary right first premolar to substitute for the long-term missing maxillary right canine, Bio-Oss and Bio-Gide were used for lateral ridge augmentation at the area of the maxillary right lateral incisor and to cover the denuded surface at the buccal side of the first premolar. Orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) commenced 2 weeks after regenerative surgery. After 8 months, new bone formation was observed on the root surface of the first premolar during implant surgery. A

Recovering teeth from a large dentigerous cyst: A case report.

A dentigerous cyst is an odontogenic lesion caused by the expansion of the follicle surrounding the crown of impacted, embedded or unerupted teeth. These cysts may cause destruction of the bone, displacement of adjacent teeth, resorption of their roots and prevent the eruption of cyst-associated permanent teeth. This paper discusses successful use of marsupialization combined with orthodontic treatment to treat cyst-associated impacted permanent teeth and to correct a class II open bite malocclusion.
