Central Nervous System Involvement in Acute Myeloid Leukemia: From Pathophysiology to Neuroradiologic Features and the Emerging Role of Artificial Intelligence.

Background/Objectives: Central nervous system (CNS) involvement in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a rare but important complication linked to poor outcomes. Diagnosing it is difficult because neurological symptoms are often subtle or nonspecific, and conventional cytology and imaging have limitations. This review summarizes current evidence on the neuroradiologic features of CNS infiltration in AML and explores the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing detection and characterization. Methods: A thorough narrative review was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, and Embase, emplo

Radiomics-based classification and inference of subtypes and stages in social anxiety disorder using resting-state functional images.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to leverage advanced radiomics analysis of resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data to investigate the potential of radiomics in distinguishing patients with social anxiety disorder (SAD) from healthy controls and identifying distinct subtypes within patients. METHODS: We analyzed the rs-fMRI data from 147 participants (78 controls, 69 patients) using three rs-fMRI metrics: regional homogeneity, fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations, and degree centrality. From each of these metrics, we extracted 91 radiomics and mean signals

Validation of reading as a predictor of mild cognitive impairment.

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a neurocognitive disorder that precedes Alzheimer's disease, but also other types of dementia. The use of reading tasks, when paired with eye-tracking technology, has been suggested as an effective biomarker for identifying MCI and distinguishing it from healthy individuals. The objective of this study was twofold: (1) to explore the disparities in eye movements during reading between individuals with MCI and healthy controls and train a predictive model to detect MCI, and (2) to validate these findings on a large independent dataset. We developed features fo

Neuromotor adaptation trajectories in response to core stability training versus aerobic training for chronic mechanical low back pain: A dynamic systems analysis within a precision rehabilitation framework.

OBJECTIVE: Chronic mechanical low back pain (CMLBP) is characterized by heterogeneous neuromotor responses that limit the effectiveness of standardized therapies. The study aimed to characterize neuromotor adaptation trajectories in response to core stability versus aerobic training and to develop a predictive tool for individualized rehabilitation. METHODS: Forty-five women with CMLBP (aged 18-45 years) completed 8-week intervention programs: core stability plus conventional therapy ( n = 15), aerobic exercise plus conventional therapy ( n = 15), or conventional therapy alone ( n = 15). Pain

Integrated multi-omics analysis identifies SELENOP and PKMYT1 as immune-metabolic hub genes in breast cancer.

BACKGROUND: Metabolic reprogramming and immune evasion synergistically drive breast carcinogenesis, but their combined impact remains unclear. METHODS: Transcriptomic data from the TCGA and GEO cohorts were integrated. Differentially expressed genes were identified, followed by WGCNA to detect immune-correlated co-expression modules. Immune-metabolism-related genes (IMGs) were screened using Genecards. Four machine learning algorithms (LASSO, SVM, RF, XGBoost) identified hub genes. The diagnostic value was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier and ROC analysis. CIBERSORT quantified immune microenvironmen

Factors Associated with Tobacco Cessation Services Request Among Users of an Online Self-Screening Questionnaire.

OBJECTIVES: Tobacco smoking remains a major public health risk, responsible for millions of deaths worldwide. While smoking patterns in Mexico differ from those in countries with higher rates, comorbidities such as diabetes pose a health risk. Although many smokers want to quit, access to cessation services is limited. Internet-based cessation (I-BC) services are a promising modality that offers accessibility and machine learning (ML) has been successfully used to predict tobacco outcomes. This study uses ML to identify characteristics associated with requesting I-BC through an online self-ass

Electroencephalography-Based Depression Detection Using Multiple Machine Learning Techniques.

The growth of biomedical engineering has made depression diagnosis via electroencephalography (EEG) a trendy issue. The two significant challenges to this application are EEG signals' complexity and non-stationarity. Additionally, the effects caused by individual variances may hamper the generalization of detection systems. Given the association between EEG signals and particular demographics, such as gender and age, and the influences of these demographic characteristics on the incidence of depression, it would be preferable to include demographic factors during EEG modeling and depression de

Classification of Acoustic Hearing Preservation After Cochlear Implantation Using Electrocochleography.

The objective to preserve residual hearing during cochlear implantation has recently led to the use of intracochlear electrocochleography (ECochG) as an intraoperative monitoring tool. Currently, a decrease in the amplitude of the difference between responses to alternating-polarity stimuli (DIF response), predominantly reflecting the hair cell response, is used for providing feedback. Including other ECochG response components, such as phase changes and harmonic distortions, could improve the accuracy of surgical feedback. The objectives of the present study were (1) to compare simultaneously

Tear Film Classification in Interferometry Eye Images Using Phylogenetic Diversity Indexes and Ripley's K Function.

Dry eye syndrome is one of the most frequently reported eye diseases in ophthalmological practice. The diagnosis of this disease is a challenging task due to its multifactorial etiology. One of the most applied tests is the manual classification of tear film images captured with the Doane interferometer. The interference phenomena in these images can be characterized as texture patterns, which can be automatically classified into one of the following categories: strong fringes, coalescing strong fringes, fine fringes, coalescing fine fringes, and debris. This work presents a method for classif

Improving computer-aided detection assistance in breast cancer screening by removal of obviously false-positive findings.

PURPOSE: Computer-aided detection (CADe) systems for mammography screening still mark many false positives. This can cause radiologists to lose confidence in CADe, especially when many false positives are obviously not suspicious to them. In this study, we focus on obvious false positives generated by microcalcification detection algorithms. METHODS: We aim at reducing the number of obvious false-positive findings by adding an additional step in the detection method. In this step, a multiclass machine learning method is implemented in which dedicated classifiers learn to recognize the pattern

Applying cybernetic technology to diagnose human pulmonary sounds.

Chest auscultation is a crucial and efficient method for diagnosing lung disease; however, it is a subjective process that relies on physician experience and the ability to differentiate between various sound patterns. Because the physiological signals composed of heart sounds and pulmonary sounds (PSs) are greater than 120 Hz and the human ear is not sensitive to low frequencies, successfully making diagnostic classifications is difficult. To solve this problem, we constructed various PS recognition systems for classifying six PS classes: vesicular breath sounds, bronchial breath sounds, trac

Prostacyclin production in regions of arterial stenosis.

The effect of abnormal flow dynamics on prostacyclin (PGI2) production by intact endothelium is unknown. To investigate this we studied the effects of graded stenoses on vessel wall PGI2 production in dogs (n = 8) whose femoral and carotid arteries (n = 32) were narrowed by machine-milled clips, producing 1.0 cm segmental stenoses of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 90% diameter reduction. Three dogs were injected with Indium 111-labeled platelets and 12 vessels were scanned for platelet deposition. All stenotic vessels were excised at 6 weeks for histologic study (hematoxylin-eosin section and immunohistoc

CT Fingerprinting of Pulmonary Diseases: A Visual Analysis of Structured Reporting in RACOON-RECO.

PURPOSE: Pulmonary diseases can be analyzed with computed tomography (CT) with regard to their severity, distribution, and morphology. Up to now, this has mainly been done descriptively by radiologists, resulting in a high variance of results. Standardized structured reporting has the great potential to systematically record pulmonary changes and make them available for machine-readable reuse. However, it is still unclear how these structured findings can be analyzed in a simple and communicable way. The aim of this study was therefore to develop a method for comprehensible visualization and t
