BACKGROUND: Although there have been reports of Brucella granuloma or abscess in the literature, they were all localized extradurally except one, and most patients underwent surgery.
CASE REPORT: A 40-year-old female presented with urinary and fecal incontinence and a two-month history of progressive weakness of the right leg and numbness of the left leg. Four months previously, she had been diagnosed with systemic brucellosis with a period of radiculomeningoencephalitis; she was treated successfully with rifampicin, doxycycline, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (TMP/SMZ), and streptomycin, and

We report a 54-year-old man with X-linked bulbospinal muscular atrophy (BSMA) with bilateral abductor vocal cord paralysis. He noticed distal weakness in the lower limbs at age 20. In the following 18 years the weakness and atrophy of his leg muscles increased gradually. He has complained of stridors during respiratory tract infection and snored heavily during sleep since his age of 50. He was admitted to our hospital for the progressive stridors during meals. His two brothers were said to have similar complaints. Physical examination showed gynecomastia, hypertension and inspiratory stridor.

Minor injuries are sometimes followed by a potentially disabling syndrome of hyperalgesia, hyperesthesia, allodynia, and sudomotor disturbance as well as, eventually, weakness, muscle atrophy, trophic skin changes, and bone and joint abnormalities. Vasomotor changes frequently present as hypothermia or hyperthermia. Most of the literature refers to this syndrome as reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD). To observe possible early RSD changes, we studied 1000 military recruits before and during basic training. Evaluations consisted of lower limb clinical examinations and pain assessment. Infrared i

The functional cardiac innervation of 61 puppies from nine different litters (2-8 littermates), ranging in age from 1 day to 7 wk, was investigated. The efferent sympathetic nervous system exerted minimal effects on the heart of 1-day-old puppies, gradually influencing the heart more thereafter such that by 7 wk of life it was functionally mature. In contrast, efferent parasympathetic cardiac innervation was well developed at birth, maturing thereafter such that by 4-7 wk of age its capacity to modulate the heart was similar to that found in adults. The right- and left-sided efferent sympathet

An atypical case of hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy of neuronal type with retardation of motor development was described. The patient was a 15-year-old boy who had suffered from distal muscle weakness with atrophy of four limbs and deformities of hands and feet since age 6 months. These symptoms were slowly progressive. He had never walked. His parents were not consanguinous. His parents and two siblings were unremarkable on neurological examination and on nerve conduction studies. On neurological examination, he showed severe degree of muscle weakness and atrophy in the distal upper a

The pathophysiology of recurrent cyanotic episodes has been investigated in 51 infants and children. Episodes began at a median age of 7 weeks (range 1 day to 22 months, 39 at less than 4 months). They were characterised by the rapidity of onset and progression of severe hypoxaemia with early loss of consciousness from cerebral hypoxia. The most common precipitating factor was a sudden naturally occurring stimulus from pain, fear, or anger. In uncontrolled trials, cyanotic episodes were reduced in frequency and severity by tetrabenazine (n = 15) and additional inspired oxygen (n = 10). Eight p

A 41-year-old man noticed colorless cutaneous nodules all over his body at the age of 24. Recently the nodules increased markedly in number and several large nodules were removed at the dermatological clinic of our hospital. The histological diagnosis of the nodules was neurofibroma. He was then referred to our neurosurgical clinic for neurological examinations to rule out involvement of the central nervous system. He showed no abnormality in neurological examination except for hyper-reflexia of the left patellar tendon reflex and occasional right leg weakness. Cranial CT scan and EEG were nor

SCH 29851 was studied for its ability to interact with selected drugs used in man. The non-sedating antihistamine terfenadine and the sedating antihistamine diphenhydramine were also studied for comparison. SCH 29851 at 80 mg/kg po in mice, a dose about 50 times its ED50 for blocking histamine-induced paw edema in the same species, potentiated the anticonvulsant effects of diazepam. At the high dose of 320 mg/kg po, about 80 times its ED50 for antihistamine effects, SCH 29851 potentiated the ability of high doses of ethanol and hexobarbital to induce loss of righting reflexes (LRR). However, n

The reactions of renal hemodynamics and excretory function elicited by perfusion of the vascularly isolated carotid bodies with venous blood were studied in four groups of chloralosed cats in which the Nn. vagi, the breathing reactions, and the carotid body chemoreceptors were excluded successively. The kidney function was determined using clearance-techniques in both the innervated right and denervated left kidneys. In the animals with intact carotid chemoreceptors perfusion of the carotid bifurcations with venous blood caused a weak (4-6 mm Hg on the average) and transient increase of the me

The effects of catecholamines and adrenergic blocking agents were studied in vivo on the blood pressure and heart rate of the unanaesthetized American bullfrog, Rana catesbeiana. Bullfrogs were chronically cannulated with a T cannula in the right sciatic artery. The mean systemic arterial blood pressure prior to the infusion of catecholamines was 18.5 +/- 1.5 mm Hg. Mean preinfusion heart rate was 30.9 +/- 2.0 beats/min. Epinephrine elicited the largest increase in blood pressure, with an accompanying decrease in heart rate. Norepinephrine and phenylephrine were less effective. Isoproterenol w

The effects of intravenous nitroglycerin (NG; 2, 8, 32 micrograms/kg) on cardiocirculatory dynamics were evaluated in control normal (C) and chronically volume-overloaded [high-output heart failure (aortocaval fistula), HCO] conscious rats. Pressures were recorded in the left ventricle, the caudal artery, and the right atrium. Regional blood flows were determined by radioactive microsphere injection into the left ventricle with reference sampling from the caudal artery. Cardiac output (CO) was 289 ml . min-1 . kg in C and did not change with NG; however, in HCO systemic CO was decreased 31, 23

The administration of morphine sulfate (MS, 2 mg/kg) into the right atrium in decerebrate rats, produced a dramatic bradycardia, apnea, and a slight transient biphasic blood pressure response within 1 sec. The bradycardia was slowly restored to control levels within 8-10 min and was prevented by pretreatment with atropine. Apnea (7.3 +/- 2.2 sec) was followed by a period of rapid shallow breathing. Acute tolerance to these effects developed to subsequent doses of morphine. In paralyzed artificially ventilated animals, morphine produced: (1) cessation of phrenic nerve (PN) activity which was fo

Transcortical aphasia accompanied by echolalia occurs with malacias involving the postero-median part of the frontal lobe which includes the supplementary motor field of Penfield and is nourished by the anterior cerebral artery. The syndrome manifests itself in such cases even in fine detials in the same form as does in Pick's atrophy. The same also holds true for cases in which a tumour involves the region mentioned. Sentences or fragments of sentences are echolalised; tendency to perseveration is very marked. It is hardly, if at all, possible to evaluate the verbal understanding of these pat

Cardiovascular responses to graded iv infusions of norepinephrine were observed in 24 dogs that had been treated for 1 week with either placebo, dexamethasone, or deoxycorticosterone. Eight dogs served as control and received daily iv injections of placebo; eight dogs received the mineralocorticoid, deoxycorticosterone; and eight received the glucocorticoid, dexamethasone. The three groups did not differ with respect to base-line hemodynamic variables either before administration of norepinephrine or after autonomic reflexes had been inhibited by ganglionic blockade. Comparisons of the three g

Caudal regression syndrome (CRS) refers to a spectrum of congenital structural defects of the caudal region. We present a case of caudal regression syndrome with the objective of correlating the symptoms of caudal regression syndrome with the detailed imaging findings. A 05-year-old boy who was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in August 2025 , presented with a post-urethroplasty state of hypospadias, complaining of urinary incontinence through the normal meatus and a urethrocutaneous fistula. He had dribbling of urine through hypospadias and deformed feet since birth. He also de

BACKGROUND: Invasive Group A Streptococcal (iGAS) infection is relatively rare in pediatric upper respiratory tract infections, but it can breach anatomical barriers to cause deep abscesses. However, iGAS-induced rapid development of intraorbital abscess in children is extremely uncommon. Due to its high occult nature, it is easily overlooked, which may lead to permanent visual loss or even death. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 6-year-old girl was admitted to the hospital with “rhinorrhea and cough for 1 week, accompanied by fever for 2 days”. Upon admission, the pediatrician diagnosed acute tonsillitis

PURPOSE: The aim of the study was to evaluate hearing, voice, and speech in 10-year-old boy with fascio-scapulo-humeral dystrophy (FSHD).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Hearing, voice, and speech were assessed in a 10-year-old boy with FSHD due to scarcity of detailed audiophonological assessment in this disorder. Evaluation of muscle tension in upper and lower limb posture, gait, muscle enzyme activity, ECG, USG, bone densitometry, lower limb muscles MRI, handgrip strength were conducted. Hearing was examined using pure-tone, impedance, speech audiometry, and DPOAE. Voice assessment included GRBAS an

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is a multisystem autosomal dominant disorder primarily characterized by myotonia and distal muscle weakness. Central nervous system (CNS) involvement, including cognitive, executive, and emotional dysfunctions, is increasingly being recognized; however, language impairment as an initial presentation is rare. A 50-year-old right-handed woman with a six-month history of progressive word-finding difficulty, vague speech, and social withdrawal was referred for evaluation. Neurological examination revealed distal muscle atrophy (grip strength: 5 kg right, 8 kg left)
