Soft Tissue Contour Impression with Analogic or Digital Work Flow: A Case Report.

PURPOSE: Transferring precise information to the dental laboratory is one of the key factors to achieving clinical success. The aim of the present study was to describe classical and digital work-flows used to rehabilitate an implant with a convergent collar in the aesthetic zone following the BOPT (biologically oriented preparation technique) approach and to report the three years follow-up outcomes of two patients rehabilitated following such procedures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two central incisors of two different patients were rehabilitated with a tissue-level implant with a convergent col

Update on coronectomy. A safer way to remove high risk mandibular third molars.

UNLABELLED: Decoronation of high risk mandibular third molars (M3Ms) has become common practice in parts of UK and USA. With the introduction of Cone Beam CT scanning, there has been an evolution in the practice, with avoidance of unnecessary coronectomies based on CBCT findings. Also, additional anatomical features found only on CBCTs have introduced possible additional indications to undertake intentional coronectomy. Trigeminal nerve injury is the most problematic consequence of dental surgical procedures with major medico-legal implications. Iatrogenic injuries to the third division of the

Occurrence of talon cusp on a geminated maxillary central incisor: a case report.

This article reports an uncommon case of talon cusp on a geminated permanent maxillary central incisor, including details of the clinical and radiographic findings and treatment. A 28-year-old woman presented at the university dental clinic, and intraoral examination revealed a maxillary central incisor of abnormal size with a prominent accessory cusp on the lingual aspect. The case was diagnosed as talon cusp on a geminated tooth. Early diagnosis of this anomaly is important since it may cause clinical problems such as esthetic concerns, caries and tooth crowding. In the present case, these a

[10-year review of prosthetic treatment of a case of hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia].

The prosthetic treatment made in case of ectodermal hipohidrotic dysplasia with partial anodontia is described. After ten years the case is reviewed, taking into account, principally, the esthetics parameters, function and survival of the remaining teeth. In all of them an excellent result is observed, and the improvement of the patient in the nutritional and psychical range is confirmed.

RETROSPECTIVE CLASSIFICATION AND MANAGEMENT OF CANINE FRACTURES IN LARGE APES WITHIN SPECIES SURVIVAL PLAN©-MANAGED POPULATIONS (2004-2017).

The prominent canine tooth of the large ape species western lowland gorilla (WLG; Gorilla gorilla gorilla), chimpanzee (CH; Pan troglodytes), bonobo (BO; Pan paniscus), and orangutan (ORG; Pongo pygmaeus spp.) is vulnerable to injury. Specialty consultation is often sought for severe dental fractures to optimize care. Although several options are possible (none, medical, endodontic, extraction), treatment by type of fracture for this tooth has not been well documented in apes. A retrospective review by survey was performed to assess the frequency of canine dental fracture in large apes that we

Effect of deep margin elevation and cavity configuration on the mechanical behavior of endocrown restorations: a 3D finite element study.

BACKGROUND: Restorative procedures following endodontic treatment are crucial for preserving the functional integrity of the tooth, preventing coronal leakage, and protecting the root canal system from contamination. The present study aims to compare the effects of different marginal elevation strategies and restorative material combinations on stress distribution and fatigue life, using three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis (FEA) of mandibular first molar models prepared with DO, MO, and MOD cavity designs. METHODS: The anatomical structure of tooth number 36 was scanned using cone

Spontaneous Resolution of Mandibular Incisor Gingival Recession Following Orthodontic Torque Correction With Fixed Appliances: A Case Report.

Gingival recession associated with excessive vestibular torque of mandibular incisors represents a significant periodontal challenge. This case report presents a non-surgical management strategy for an isolated deep recession in an adolescent patient. A 12-year-old female patient presented with severe mandibular anterior crowding and a 3 mm isolated labial gingival recession on tooth 31 (Cairo RT1/Miller Class I), secondary to severe vestibular root displacement. Treatment was carried out using a full fixed appliance (0.022-inch slot, Roth prescription) over 24 months. Individualized lingual r

Transient apical breakdown during orthodontic incisor intrusion treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: a case report.

Transient apical breakdown (TAB) may occur during pulp repair after dental traumatic injury, including orthodontic force. Herein, we describe TAB in the maxillary right central incisor of a 24-year-old woman during orthodontic treatment for a severe gummy smile. Eight months after initiating intrusion of the maxillary anterior teeth using temporary anchorage devices, the maxillary right central incisor showed discoloration and was non-responsive to electric pulp tests. The orthodontic force on the maxillary anterior teeth was immediately removed, and loxoprofen sodium, a non-steroidal anti-inf

Immediate Implant Placement and Provisionalization Without Guided Bone Regeneration or Connective Tissue Grafting: A Case Report.

Immediate implant placement in the maxillary esthetic zone remains a challenging procedure, requiring careful case selection and precise technique to achieve optimal esthetic and functional outcomes. This case report describes the successful immediate placement of an implant (Straumann BLX, 3.75 mm diameter, 12.0 mm length; Institut Straumann AG, Basel, Switzerland) in the maxillary right central incisor position following the atraumatic extraction of a vertically fractured tooth. A fully guided surgical approach was used without flap elevation or bone grafting. Immediate provisionalization wa

Combined micro-apical surgery and vital pulp therapy in mandibular second molars with external root resorption caused by impacted teeth.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to establish a new treatment of the mandibular second molars with external root resorption caused by impacted teeth to preserve the affected teeth and their vital pulps. METHODS: For mandibular second molars clinically diagnosed as external root resorption caused by impacted teeth, debridement and removal of the root at the resorption site via micro-apical surgery and direct capping of the pulp with bioactive material on the surface of the root amputation via vital pulp therapy were performed immediately after the impacted teeth were extracted. RESULTS: The exter

New Approach to Treatment of High-Risk Allograft Recipients Under Chronic Immunosuppression With Tooth Loss. Evaluation of Safety and Longevity of Dental Implants: A Case Report.

Patients eligible for solid organ transplant often lose their teeth and show numerous caries as well as periodontal and mucous membrane pathologies. The conventional methods of restoring teeth, including bridges and removable dentures, may result in progress of periodontal disease or even the creation of local source of general infection. Dental implants are not recognized as a therapeutic method in solid organ transplant recipients receiving immunosuppression because of the possibility of implant osseointegration disorders and suspicion as to the possibility of dysfunction of the transplanted

Invasive cervical resorption: a review.

Invasive cervical resorption is a relatively uncommon form of external root resorption exhibiting no external signs. The resorptive condition is often detected by routine radiographic examination. The clinical features vary from a small defect at the gingival margin to a pink coronal discoloration of the tooth crown resulting in ultimate cavitation of the overlying enamel which is painless unless pulpal or periodontal infection supervenes. Radiographic features of lesions vary from well-delineated to irregularly bordered mottled radiolucencies, and these can be confused with dental caries. A c…

Mandibular cheek tooth eruption and development in Hereford cross Friesian steers as a means of age determination.

The development of the mandibular cheek teeth was examined, both visually and by radiograph, in a group of 76 Hereford cross Friesian steers, of which all but one were slaughtered at the same weight - 464 kg (1020lb). The age of the youngest animal was 1 year 0.3 months whereas the slaughter ages of the others ranged from 1 year 3 months to 1 year 8 months. The first molar was fully erupted and crown and root formation complete in all but the youngest steer. In the other five cheek teeth there were one or more significant differences between the mean ages of tooth development stages as assesse

Treatment success of carious primary molars with marginal breakdown: comparison of three treatment approaches in a real-world clinical setting (using decision tree analysis).

OBJECTIVES: Treatment of carious primary molars is always indicated, especially on young children; however, there are no clear guidelines that precisely explain the best treatment approach for Class II carious molars with marginal breakdown (International Caries Detection and Assessment System [ICDAS] 5). The objective of this prospective observational clinical study was to assess the efficacy of three restorative techniques in treating ICDAS 5 Class II lesions in primary molars: compomer fillings (CF), preformed metal crowns (PMC), and pulpotomy and conventional preformed metal crowns (PMC+P)
