Comparative Clinical Outcomes in the Treatment of Anterior Crossbite Using Three Different Appliances: A Case Series.

Anterior crossbite, a misalignment of the upper front teeth in which the bite is behind the lower front teeth, is a common dental condition in mixed dentition. This case series examines the clinical results of three orthodontic appliances, namely Catlan's appliance, the removable finger-spring appliance, and the 2x4 appliance, in the management of anterior crossbite. The first case study involves a seven-year-old patient with a single-tooth crossbite. The patient was treated using a 2x4 appliance, which resulted in a satisfactory correction of the problem within a reasonable treatment duration

Effectiveness of immediate dentine sealing and resin coating in reducing dental sensitivity in a child with idiopathic neuropathy and anterior dental attrition: Case report.

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic neuropathy is a peripheral nervous system disorder of unknown etiology. Patients with this disorder often suffer from bruxism problems. Bruxism is defined as an oral parafunction characterized by occlusal contacts resulting from non-physiological, repetitive, and involuntary masticatory motor activities. These events can trigger accentuated wear of the tooth structure leading to sensitivity. Tooth sensitivity is the pain arising from the exposed dentin in response to chemical, thermal, tactile, or osmotic stimuli that cannot be explained as the result of any other dental

Dental health of pediatric patients with X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) after three years of burosumab therapy.

An inactivating PHEX gene mutation with the resultant accumulation of several mineralization-inhibiting proteins (e.g., FGF23) causes skeletal and dental morbidity in X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH). This prospective case-control study explored the effect of burosumab, an anti-FGF23 antibody, on dental health of children with XLH. Ten children (age 4.3-15 years) with XLH underwent burosumab treatment per protocol. Assessment of their dental status at treatment initiation and after 1 and 3 years of treatment included clinical, laboratory and radiographic evaluation of rickets and dentition. Ort

Comparisons of tooth sizes, dental arch dimensions, tooth wear, and dental crowding in Amazonian indigenous people.

INRODUCTION: Our objective was to assess tooth wear, arch dimensions, tooth sizes, and dental crowding in 4 remote indigenous villages on the Xingu River in Brazil. These populations have similar patterns of dietary habits and practice exclusive breast-feeding, whereas studies in human genetics show large intertribal genetic distances and low intratribal variations. METHODS: Dental casts of 107 subjects in the permanent dentition were evaluated. Tooth wear, arch dimensions, mesiodistal tooth widths, and the irregularity index of the incisors were obtained and compared using analysis of varian

A Comparative Evaluation of the Efficacy of Etching by the Total Etch and Self-etch Dentin Bonding Systems in the Primary Teeth: An in vitro Study.

OBJECTIVE: Early childhood caries is now affecting the children in dangerous proportions. There is a wide spread loss of the tooth material irrespective of the type of the carious lesion. Restoration of such lesions with a strong permanent bond between the dental tissues and the restorative dental materials would be a highly desirable requisite. Ultramorphological characterizations show that the interfacial morphology and the chemical characterization of the bonding systems appear to be strongly associated with each other and, therefore, observing and understanding the interfacial phenomenon a

Mild hypodontia is associated with smaller tooth dimensions and cusp numbers than in controls.

OBJECTIVE: The associations seen clinically between variations in tooth number, size and shape reflect the repetitive genetic interactions occurring between the epithelium and mesenchyme during the initiation and morphogenetic stages of the Complex Adaptive System that is dental development. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical relationship further by comparing multiple crown parameters, including cusp numbers, between patients with mild hypodontia and controls in a Romanian sample. DESIGN: Digital images of dental casts of the permanent dentition from 28 patients with mild h

Application of the dental aesthetic index in the prioritisation of orthodontic service needs.

OBJECTIVE: The provision of orthodontic treatment to patients in government funded training institutions is a major challenge due to constrained budget and resource allocation. The Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) has been used to estimate orthodontic treatment need and as a screening tool to determine treatment priority. The DAI focuses on aesthetics and therefore omits other malocclusion traits that might require orthodontic treatment. The aim of the study was to compare the application of the DAI with the influence other malocclusion traits not included in the DAI might have on the determinatio
