A transdiagnostic mentalization-based parenting intervention versus care as usual for parents with mental disorders in adult mental health services in Denmark: protocol for a randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Mental disorders can impact parenting negatively, thus placing their children at risk of adversity. The current service support for parents in adult mental health (AMHS) service is limited. The objective of this randomized clinical trial will be to evaluate the effects of a transdiagnostic mentalization-based parenting program (Lighthouse MBT Parenting Program) versus care as usual (CAU) for parents with mental disorders in AMHS in Denmark. METHODS: This trial is designed as an investigator-initiated single-center open-label randomized clinical superiority trial of the Lighthouse

Variables associated with olfactory disorders in adults: A U.S. population-based analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Olfactory dysfunction is known to have significant social, psychological, and safety implications. Despite increasingly recognized prevalence, potential risk factors for olfactory loss have been arbitrarily documented and knowledge is limited in scale. The aim of this study is to identify potential demographic and exposure variables correlating with olfactory dysfunction. METHODS: Cross-sectional analysis of the 2011-2012 and 2013-2014 editions of the National Health Examination and Nutrition Survey was performed. The utilized survey reports from a nationally representative sample

Predictors of Aggression in Children and Adolescents With Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Systematic Review.

Aggression is a common and impairing co-occurring behavior among children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), negatively affecting developmental outcomes, family functioning, and social participation. Although numerous studies have examined factors associated with aggression in ASD, findings remain inconsistent, limiting efforts to improve early identification and intervention. This systematic review synthesized current evidence on predictors of aggression in children and adolescents with ASD. The review protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023416081). A systematic search

Latent profiles and network analysis of emotional behaviors in preschool children after congenital heart disease surgery.

BACKGROUND: Emotional and behavioral problems are prominent and highly heterogeneous among preschool children after congenital heart disease surgery, but their latent subgroup characteristics and core symptoms remain unclear. The associations between the family psychological environment (e.g., parenting stress, family hardiness) and children's emotional and behavioral outcomes also need further clarification. OBJECTIVE: To identify heterogeneous subgroups and central symptoms of emotional and behavioral problems in preschool children after congenital heart disease surgery, and to examine the

A Real-World Beta-Cell Preservation Framework in Type 1 Diabetes: Consensus from the T1D Exchange (T1DX-QI).

OBJECTIVE: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) follows a trajectory defined by four stages. Autoantibody screening and disease-modifying therapy (DMT) strategies to preserve beta-cell function are rapidly emerging. Clinical implementation guidance is limited. METHODS: A national group of pediatric and adult endocrinology experts was formed through invitation by a nonprofit network of over 60 centers. Experts were invited based on their expertise in autoantibody (AAB) screening for T1D and treating children and adults at risk for T1D. The group comprised 22 experts from 13 academic medical centers across th

Are Surgically Treated Long Bone Fractures in Adolescents Linked to Higher Rates of Substance Use Disorder? A Propensity-Matched Study.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents recovering from operatively treated traumatic fractures face significant perioperative challenges, including pain, functional limitations, and psychological distress. Pain management often involves the use of opioids, which may contribute to the subsequent risk of developing substance use disorders (SUDs). This study explores the relationship between surgically treated upper and lower-extremity long-bone fractures and the subsequent risk of developing SUDs. METHODS: This retrospective, propensity-matched cohort study used the TriNetX US Collaborative database, which en

Translation and psychometric validation of the symptom catastrophizing scale in cardiac surgery patients: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Symptom catastrophizing reflects maladaptive cognitive and emotional responses to physical symptoms and may worsen symptom burden, distress, and recovery. However, no validated Chinese instrument is available for cardiac surgery patients, limiting patient-centered assessment and early risk identification. OBJECTIVE: To translate and culturally adapt a symptom-neutral catastrophizing measure derived from the original Post-concussion Symptom Catastrophizing Scale and evaluate its psychometric properties in Chinese cardiac surgery patients. METHODS: Following Brislin's translation m

Characteristics, Risk Factors, and Long-Term Outcomes of Dysphagia Following Modified Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty: A Mixed-Methods Study.

OBJECTIVE AND DESIGN: Modified Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (mUPPP) is a standard surgical intervention for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS), but postoperative dysphagia remains an underdiagnosed and poorly managed complication due to the lack of standardised assessment protocols. This prospective mixed-methods observational study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics, independent risk factors, and long-term outcomes of dysphagia following mUPPP. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: A prospective observational study was conducted on 120 OSAHS patients undergoing mUPPP. A mixed-met

Speaking up under constraints: a configurational JD-R explanation of safety voice among young construction workers.

INTRODUCTION: Young construction workers are exposed to high levels of occupational safety risk while often occupying relatively vulnerable positions in work groups. Safety voice is an important participatory mechanism for early hazard identification and occupational injury prevention. However, existing studies have mainly examined the net effects of individual predictors, offering limited insight into how multiple job demands, job resources, and personal capabilities combine to enable or constrain safety voice. METHODS: Drawing on the job demands-resources framework, this study adopted a con

Penalized Cumulative Probability Model for a Continuous Outcome Subject to Detection Limits.

Mixed-type outcome data occur when the outcome variable's distribution is a mixture of both continuous and discrete ordinal variables. Such mixed-type outcomes are common in biomedical, psychological, and the health sciences, particularly for variables having either a detection or quantitation limit. When interest lies in identifying a combination of genomic features associated with a mixed-type outcome, any method used would require a variable selection strategy for high-dimensional data. Unfortunately, few variable selection methods exist for modeling a mixed-type outcome when the covariate

When "lying flat" goes quiet: active and passive pathways linking "Tang Ping" suppression to displaced voice and hidden disengagement.

Tang Ping (, TP), or "lying flat," has emerged among Chinese youth as an embedded response to overwork, involution, blocked mobility, and declining confidence that sustained effort will secure adult roles and material stability. This Perspective asks what may happen when institutions and platforms restrict the visibility, legitimacy, or circulation of TP expression without changing the pressures that made it meaningful. It introduces the Tang Ping Differentiated Pathways Framework (TP-DPF), a conceptual model of function-contingent responses to suppression. The framework distinguishes three ma

Association of B-Type Natriuretic Peptide With Intrinsic Capacity Trajectories Among Chinese Older Adults.

BACKGROUND: Intrinsic capacity (IC) is central to healthy aging, yet accessible and cost-effective biomarkers for identifying individuals at risk of IC decline remain limited. We investigated whether elevated B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), including persistent BNP abnormalities, is associated with baseline IC and longitudinal IC decline. METHODS: We conducted a population-based prospective cohort study using data from the Rugao Longevity and Aging Study, which included three waves of assessments over 4 years. IC was quantified as a composite score across five domains-mobility, vitality, co

Predicting patient outcomes from initial in-session interactions within cognitive behavioral therapy and person-centered experiential therapy for severe depression.

OBJECTIVE: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and person-centered experiential therapy (PCET) are the most frequently delivered individual psychological therapies in the UK National Health Service Talking Therapies program. However, many patients do not benefit from treatment and motivational processes early in therapy may influence outcomes. This study assessed specific, in-session interaction-types at the first session of CBT and PCET for severe depression that may predict therapeutic outcomes. METHOD: Trained raters assessed active engagement in specific interactions from 103 first session

Changes in Symptoms of Cannabis Use Disorder of Ontario Youth Across the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Longitudinal Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Cannabis use increased among youth during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there is a lack of research examining whether there were lasting changes in cannabis use and, in particular, problematic cannabis use, across the pandemic. This is particularly important to examine among young adults because problematic cannabis use is associated with a greater likelihood of impaired neurodevelopment and adverse health outcomes. METHODS: The study was a longitudinal cohort survey of Canadian youth (n = 1579; 55% female; mean age 22 years) aged 16 to 30 residing in Ontario who reported cannab

External Validation of a Prognostic Model for Outcome After Mild Traumatic Brain Injury at 6 Months Post Injury.

BACKGROUND: While most people fully recover after mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), a substantial minority experience persistent symptoms and incomplete recovery. This may be prevented by early interventions specifically targeting patients at risk of incomplete recovery. The UPFRONT-model was developed to identify patients at risk of poor functional outcome. This study aimed to externally validate the UPFRONT-model in an independent sample. METHODS: A prospective, longitudinal, multicenter cohort study with 126 mTBI patients recruited from emergency and neurology departments (ED) of six hos

Post-traumatic stress disorder and related disorders in elite athletes: a narrative review.

This narrative review examines post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma- and stressor-related mental health disorders in elite athletes. Elite athletes may experience these disorders at higher rates than the general population owing to disproportionate exposure to traumas and stressors, which can be experienced at individual and collective levels. These disorders can be difficult to detect due to complex symptom presentations and coping strategies that may mask symptoms. They can have both psychological and somatic components, and this dual nature has significant relevance for el
