AIM: To evaluate the feasibility and the outcome of endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) for large colorectal tumors exceeding 4 cm (LCRT) undergoing piecemeal resection.
METHODS: From January 2005 to April 2008, 146 digestive tumors larger than 2 cm were removed with the EMR technique in our department. Of these, 34 tumors were larger than 4 cm and piecemeal resection was carried out on 26 colorectal tumors. The mean age of the patients was 71 years. The mean follow-up duration was 12 mo.

OBJECTIVES: To compare the feasibility of mass screening by flexible sigmoidoscopy with screening by faecal occult blood testing (Haemoccult) and both tests combined.
DESIGN: Patients were randomised to screening by flexible sigmoidoscopy, faecal blood testing, or both tests. The flexible sigmoidoscopy examinations were performed by a general practitioner.
SETTING: General practice.
SUBJECTS: 3744 patients aged 50-75 years.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Uptake, positive results, detection of neoplasia, complications, and recall for diagnostic colonoscopy.

This study of colorectal polyps is based on 129 patients in whom 241 colorectal polyps were diagnosed and excised by colonoscopy in the Gastroenterology Unit of a hospital in the Upper Galilee, Israel, between 1 July 1984 and 30 June 1987. The male:female ratio was 2:1. Anemia was demonstrated in 7% and positive Hemoccult II test (Smith Kline, USA) in 64%. The types of polyp were 58% adenomatous, 25% hyperplastic and 15% inflammatory. In a prospectively randomized study we used two different ways of drainage of the sacral space after an abdomino-perineal-resection of the rectum. One group with 25 patients had a drainage anteriorly through the abdominal wall, the other 25 patients got a drainage posteriorly through the buttocks. Colonoscopy is generally considered to be an important part of the follow-up program for patients who have undergone curative resection of colorectal cancer. However, there are few data available concerning the frequency with which colonoscopy should be performed and for what length of time after operation. We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 751 residents of Rochester, Minnesota, whose small (1 cm or less) colorectal polyps had been treated without biopsy.
