BACKGROUND: Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare, congenital vascular anomalies. Intraosseous AVMS most frequently arise in the head and neck, with only a small fraction occurring in the extremities. Herein, we report the findings of a combined soft tissue and intraosseous AVM involving the lower extremity of a 13-year-old child. This case highlights the necessity of an interdisciplinary approach for the effective treatment and management of these rare vascular anomalies.

BACKGROUND: The aim of our study was to evaluate the rate of surgical complications, patient outcomes, and impact on graft function in renal transplant recipients in whom cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis was performed.
METHODS: We reviewed data on transplant patients from January 1, 2006, to December 31, 2013. The subgroup of patients who required subsequent cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis was assessed, and their data were further analyzed.
RESULTS: Thirty-one patients who underwent cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis after renal transplantation were included in the study.

Therapeutic drug monitoring of antipsychotics is important in optimizing individual therapy. In psychiatric populations, classical venous blood sampling is experienced as frightening. Interest in alternative techniques, like dried blood spots (DBS), has consequently increased. OBJECTIVES: Necrotizing fasciitis is a challenging and potentially lethal disease; early diagnosis is of paramount importance and aggressive multidisciplinary treatment is mandatory. Overall mortality rates of 33-73% have been reported. The aim of this study was to report the experience with necrotizing fasciitis of an emergency surgery department.
METHODS: From October 1995 to December 2001 we observed 11 cases of necrotizing fasciitis. The patients were five men and six women, with ages ranging from 33 to 80 years.
