Influence of maxillary molar distalization with clear aligners on three-dimensional direction: molar distal movement, intrusion, distal tip and crown buccal torque.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the distal movement, vertical movement, distal tipping and crown buccal torque of maxillary molars after the completion of distalization by comparing the predicted movement with the achieved movement using palatal rugae registration. METHODS: The study included 22 clear aligner patients (7 males and 15 females), and 79 molars were measured. Two digital models were generated before treatment and after molar distalization and were superimposed after selecting the palatal rugae area for registration in GOM inspect suite software 2022 (GOM; Brauns

Clinical outcomes of using a prosthetic protocol to rehabilitate tissue-level implants with a convergent collar in the esthetic zone: A 3-year prospective study.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Whether increasing the space for peri-implant soft tissues by using implant systems with conical or convergent transmucosal components would improve tissue stability and esthetics is unclear. PURPOSE: The purpose of this prospective clinical study was to evaluate the clinical and esthetic outcomes of using tissue-level implants with a convergent collar in the esthetic zone that had been rehabilitated following the biological oriented preparation technique (BOPT) approach after a 3-year follow-up period. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Sixteen participants with at least 1 nonresto

Biomechanics of the tooth cervical region investigated using 3D digital image correlation, micro CT, and finite element analysis.

The cervical region of the tooth is a mechanically vulnerable transition zone that transmits occlusal loads from the crown to the root and constitutes a common site of clinical conditions, including dentin hypersensitivity and non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs). However, the spatial distribution of stresses and strains induced by physiological and off-axis occlusal loading in this region, and their relationship to surface and subsurface damage, remain insufficiently characterized. Here, we investigated cervical tooth biomechanics under controlled axial and oblique loading. Ten extracted mand

Multidisciplinary Management of Failed Endodontic Treatment in a Hypertensive Patient With Severe Dental Anxiety Using Implant-Supported Rehabilitation: A Case Report.

Failed endodontic treatment may result in persistent pain and tooth loss, requiring careful evaluation to determine the most appropriate treatment approach. In medically compromised patients with severe dental anxiety, successful management also depends on medical stabilization, individualized treatment planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration. A 56-year-old female with a medical history significant for hypertension and severe dental anxiety presented with intense pain associated with a previously endodontically treated mandibular left first molar (tooth #19). The patient's baseline blood

Histological evaluation of mandibular third molar roots retrieved after coronectomy.

There is a resurgence of interest in coronectomy for the management of mandibular third molars because it has a low risk of injury to the inferior dental nerve. However, there is concern that the root that is left in place will eventually become a source of infection. We describe the histological evaluation of 26 consecutive symptomatic coronectomy roots in 21 patients. All roots had vital tissue in the pulp chamber and there was no evidence of periradicular inflammation. Persistent postoperative symptoms related predominantly to inflammation of the soft tissue, which was caused by partially e

Asymmetric outcomes in bilateral maxillary impacted tooth extractions: A case report.

BACKGROUND: The extraction of maxillary impacted teeth is a common procedure in oral surgery, frequently complicated by oroantral communications. For less-experienced clinicians, accurately assessing the difficulty and associated risks of maxillary third molar extractions remain a significant challenge. CASE SUMMARY: We present a case involving disparate outcomes following bilateral extraction of maxillary third molars. Using cone-beam computed tomography and three-dimensional software, we conducted a digital assessment of the factors contributing to extraction difficulty and risk, controllin

Minimally invasive prosthetic procedures in the rehabilitation of a bulimic patient affected by dental erosion.

The population affected by dental erosion due to bulimia is generally very young. This population group has a high aesthetic requirement; the dentition in these patients is severely damaged, especially in the anterior maxillary quadrant. In terms of treatment, it is still controversial whether an adhesive rehabilitation is preferable to a longer-lasting but more aggressive conventional treatment, such as full-crown coverage of the majority of teeth. This case report describes the prosthetic rehabilitation of a young female patient previously affected by bulimia nervosa and presenting erosion o

Estrogen deficiency reduces the dentinogenic capacity of rat lower incisors.

Endogenous estrogen deficiency usually causes the systemic osteoporosis including the jaw bones. However, it remains unclear whether estrogen deficiency can affect the tooth mineralization. In this study, the classical osteoporotic rat model was established via the ovariectomy, which was subsequently confirmed by the detection of serum estradiol levels and body weights. The mineralization-related assays were performed to observe the potential changes in mineralized tissues of rat lower incisors. The clinical crown length, compressive strength, radiodensity, and calcium content in the ovariecto

Root malformation associated with a cervical mineralized diaphragm--a distinct form of tooth abnormality?

OBJECTIVE: Deviations in length and shape of tooth roots result from hard tissue resorption or occur as a developmental disorder. The purpose of this report is to present a type of root malformation which seems to have gone unreported so far. STUDY DESIGN: Two patients showing severely dysplastic roots of all permanent first molars were evaluated using radiography, histology as well as scanning and transmission electron microscopy. RESULTS: Medical histories of the patients revealed significant, but diverse events in the first year after birth. Radiographically the pulp cavity floors of the

Dentin dysplasia: single-tooth involvement?

Dentin dysplasia is a genetic defect of dentin formation inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. It is characterized by normal enamel but atypical dentin formation with abnormal pulpal morphology. Once thought to be a single entity, dentin dysplasia has now been divided into type I (radicular) and II (coronal). Type I is by far the more common. Both types include multiple/generalized involvement of primary and permanent dentition. Combinations of both types have also been described in the literature. Four distinct forms of dentin dysplasia type I and 1 form of dentin dysplasia type II are id

Sealing properties of different resin-based root canal sealers.

In this study, a comparison of the sealing properties of three different resin-based sealers, AH26, Diaket, and EndoREZ with those of the root canal sealer zinc oxide-eugenol-based U/P Root Canal Sealer was performed. Eighty extracted single-rooted human mandibular first premolar teeth were used. The coronal part of each tooth was removed at the apical 17-mm of roots. The root canals were prepared to a size 7 with ProFile 0.06 taper Series 29 rotary instruments in a crown-down manner before lateral condensation of gutta-percha with the tested sealers (n = 20). Malignant epithelial odontogenic tumors.

Malignant epithelial odontogenic tumors are very rare. They may arise from the epithelial components of the odontogenic apparatus. The rests of Malassez, the reduced enamel epithelium surrounding the crown of an impacted tooth, the rests of Serres in the gingiva, and the linings of odontogenic cysts represent the precursor cells for malignant transformation. Because metastatic carcinoma is the most common malignancy of the jaws, the diagnosis of a primary intraosseous carcinoma must always be made to the exclusion of metastatic disease. Odontogenic carcinomas include malignant (metastasizing)

Comparison of diagnostic yields of clinical and radiographic caries examinations in children of different age.

AIM: This was to investigate if the pattern of distribution of caries lesions detected by clinical and radiographic examinations at different diagnostic thresholds changed over a 3-year period during the course of eruption of the permanent dentition. It has been hypothesized that the contribution of bitewing radiography to caries detection in posterior teeth may increase when approximal contacts are established during maturation of the dentition. METHODS: Clinical and radiographic caries recordings were made using the non- cavitated/enamel and cavity/dentine thresholds for caries detection am

Consequences of crown fractures with pulpal exposure: histopathological evaluation in dogs.

When a crown fracture involving pulpal exposure is produced, the therapeutic treatment to be applied depends to a great extent on the general histopathological condition of the exposed pulp. Hence, the objective of this study was to evaluate histopathological and bacteriological changes occurring in dental tissue and periradicular tissue of crown-fractured teeth with pulpal exposure. Twenty-four anterior teeth (central and lateral incisors) from the maxillary teeth of four young, adult Mongrel dogs were used. At 48 and 72 h after performing the crown fractures, the animals were sacrificed and
