Various studies address the morphology of the gastrointestinal tracts (GITs) of insectivorous bat species. However, detailed morphometric studies including mucin histochemistry are scarce. Fibrocartilaginous embolic myelopathy (FCE) was diagnosed in a 15-year-old pony mare by histopathologic examination of the spinal cord. The horse was euthanized and submitted for necropsy following focal seizures and lateral recumbency for approximately 12 h. Scleral tissue from a nanophthalmic patient was examined morphologically and by a tissue culture method. Collagen in the unusually thickened scleral tissue was arranged in irregularly interlacing bundles. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease with various clinical presentations. Mucin deposition is a characteristic finding in skin lesions, but it is rare in other organs. We present a case with erythematous patches from the terminal ileum to the anus in an SLE patient. Diffuse colitis was diagnosed clinically.
