The induction of type I interferons (IFNs) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) can be triggered by viral infection or exposure to viral glycoproteins. Here we show that the IFN-alpha-inducing capacity of attenuated poliovirus vaccine strains is dramatically enhanced in the presence of human polyvalent immunoglobulin G (IgG). The transcription of both IFN-alpha and IFN-beta genes was detected by RT-PCR in stimulated cells. This study investigated the effects of inulin concentration and ultrasonic homogenization on the particle size distribution and microstructure of oil-in-water emulsion gels stabilized with psyllium husk. These gels were then incorporated into meal purees formulated for individuals with dysphagia. Under ultrasound treatment, an increase in inulin from 0% to 20% reduced the average droplet size from 14.98 μm to 1.58 μm, indicating a synergistic effect between ultrasound treatment and inulin in reducing and stabilizing droplet size. The contrast of an x-ray exposure is influenced by the x-ray absorption of the examined material and the x-ray frequency. The examination of the absorbing properties of bone material in the molybdenum spectrum by means of the Bragg-method revealed an intense increase of absorption in the long-wave range. By using a zirconium filter, long-wave and monochromatic MoK alpha-rays can be isolated from the spectrum of a molybdenum x-ray tube. The x-ray exposures of thin bone tissue produced in this spectral range show a much greater degree of contrast and depth as compared to conventional exposures.

As the integrated measurements of radon progeny are essential to its risk assessment, a new method based on the morphological analysis of tracks on CR-39 was established for the discrimination of alpha particles emitted from different progenies. The preliminary experiment confirmed its feasibility and revealed its potential for application in long-term surveys of indoor radon progeny.
