Eight patients with skin damage due to contact with an amine are described. The material is used in the potash industry under the commercial name of Armine to prevent bosselation. Although it is considered to be a strong base, no deep burns were encountered. The reaction to this material initially resembled a dermatitis; later the wound developed the typical appearance of a burn. In addition to the common conservative treatment, antihistamine drugs were used. When a true allergic reaction was suspected steroids were added to the regimen.

Lumbar CSF concentration of 5-HIAA, MHPG, and HVA were measured in patients with depression, dementia due to normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) and in controls. Moreover, ventricular concentrations of the metabolites were measured in patients with NPH. It was aimed to match patients and controls for age, sex, and body height. The effect of prophylactic intraperitoneal aminated glucan on the survival rate and formation of adhesions and abscesses was investigated in rats with acute and subacute peritonitis, respectively induced by cecal perforation and ileal ligation. The concentrations of noradrenaline, 5-hydroxytryptamine, dopamine, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid and homovanillic acid were determined in the tissue of gliomas, meningiomas and neurinomas of the brain obtained during operations. Significantly higher levels of noradrenaline and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid were found in gliomas than in non-malignant tumours.

A series of 9H-xanthen-9-amines possessing a wide variety of nitrogen substituents at C-9 was prepared for evaluation of gastric antisecretory activity. A high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the separation of optical isomers (enantiomers) of amines is described. It is based on ion-pair chromatography with a chiral counter ion in a system with an organic mobile phase and an adsorbing stationary phase. The method has been applied to enantiomers of 1-aryloxy-3-isopropylamine-2-propanol derivatives (alprenolol, metoprolol, propranolol) which are completely resolved with (+)-10-camphorsulphonate as the counter ion. Studies of the influence of the counter-ion structure and the mobile phase composition are presented.

We have investigated the time-course of the pulmonary deposition of imipramine (IMIP) following a single iv injection into rabbits. A pool of IMIP and its demethylated metabolites, which exhibited considerable persistence (half-life of decay = 4 hr), was formed in the lung.
