Angioedema is one of the commonest life-threatening conditions with good outcome timely definitive treatment. However, failure to recognise the common presentation of an uncommon bradykinin-mediated angioedema in time may lead to fatal outcome in the emergency department (ED). We report a case of a 79-year-old male patient who presented to ED with features of ACE inhibitor-induced angioedema which was identified and resuscitated by the emergency physician with use of fresh frozen plasma (FFP) leading to prompt recovery and good outcome.

Beer is one of the most consumed alcoholic beverages worldwide but allergic reactions to this beverage are uncommon. The authors present a case report of a 32-year-old male patient, sent to our Allergy and Immunology Department due to anaphylaxis minutes after Franziskaner beer ingestion. Although reversible H2 receptor antagonists are usually well tolerated, there are few reports on anaphylactic reactions triggered by ranitidine. Here we report the first case of anaphylaxis to ranitidine in a child. This was an IgE-mediated event occurring in a patient who had never used ranitidine before.

Hypersensitivity reactions are increasingly prevalent, although underrecognized and underreported. Platins induce immunoglobulin E-mediated sensitization; taxenes and some monoclonal antibodies can induce reactions at first exposure. Severe hypersensitivity can preclude first-line therapy. Tryptase level at the time of a reaction is a useful diagnostic tool. Skin testing provides a specific diagnosis. Lactation anaphylaxis (LA) is an extremely rare condition with only five other cases having been previously reported in the literature. Patients will exhibit cutaneous symptoms, respiratory symptoms, gastrointestinal symptoms, and/or cardiovascular symptoms. BACKGROUND: Neonatal seizures are often refractory to treatment with initial antiseizure medications. Clinicians turn to agents such as levetiracetam despite the paucity of published data regarding its safety, tolerability, or efficacy in the neonatal population.
PATIENT PRESENTATION: We describe a neonate who developed anaphylactic shock developing after receiving intravenous levetiracetam.
RESULTS: This is the first neonate to develop anaphylactic shock due to intravenous administration of levetiracetam.

Although anaphylaxis caused by foods is well known, an immediate allergic reaction due to jellyfish ingestion has never been reported. We report a 32-year-old Japanese female, who developed anaphylaxis after eating salt-preserved jellyfish. The patient was a surfer and had frequently been stung by jellyfish. Radiocontrast media (RCM) is used commonly in clinical practice, and can be associated with significant adverse effects. We report a patient who experienced severe anaphylaxis after being given multiple drugs. Challenge testing established allergy to both RCM and ceftriaxone. Premedication did not prevent recurrence of anaphylaxis on repeat challenge with RCM. The haemodynamic and serum tryptase consequences of the challenges are discussed, and a summary of RCM allergy is provided.

The effect of 4-day fasting was studied in male Wistar rats (200-150 g) sensitized by ovalbumin on anaphylaxis manifestations in vivo, antigen-dependent histamine secretion by mast cells in vitro, concentration of serum specific IgG antibodies. The fasting ended by a shocking allergen dose. It is shown that in the condition of food deprivation anaphylactic severity significantly lowered as well as antigen-dependent histamine secretion by mast cells. No changes were seen in the levels of specific antibodies in the serum.
