Assessing vicarious trauma and attitudes toward mental health services for forensic sciences professionals.

Research indicates that forensic science professionals operate under significant pressure, the magnitude of which varies depending on their field, workload, case type, tenure, and the evidentiary significance of their testimony in court. This study conducted a needs analysis of forensic science professionals by examining their psychological well-being, coping mechanisms, and barriers to accessing mental health services. A total of 618 individuals from the AAFS community completed the anonymous online Qualtrics survey. Out of 618 participants, 601 participants responded to the PCL-5 questionnai

Evaluating the implementation of integrated knowledge translation in a multi-country research consortium in Sub-Saharan Africa - a mixed methods comparative case study.

BACKGROUND: Integrated knowledge translation (IKT) is an approach facilitating collaboration between researchers and decision-makers towards evidence-informed decision-making. Increasingly evaluated in various contexts, less is known about the implementation process of IKT, including in low- and middle-income countries. The Collaboration for Evidence-based Healthcare and Public Health in Africa (CEBHA+) developed, implemented and evaluated an IKT approach across five countries. Here, we examined how the IKT approach was implemented in the African-German multi-country research consortium, inves

Evaluation of a Collaborative Practice Agreement Intervention to Improve Access to HIV Prevention Services in Southeastern US Pharmacies: Protocol for a Hybrid Type 1 Effectiveness-Implementation Study.

BACKGROUND: The United States (US) Southeast experiences a disproportionate burden of HIV, compounded by limited access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) services due to systemic barriers, such as stigma, medical mistrust, and restrictive pharmacy policies. Collaborative practice agreements (CPAs) between pharmacists and clinicians represent a promising strategy to improve PrEP accessibility through pharmacy-based services. OBJECTIVE: The Collaborative Agreement-based PrEP Using Pharmacies (CAP-UP) study aims to evaluate the development, implementation, and effectiveness of a CPA template an

Economic evaluation in implementation science: Making the business case for implementation strategies.

Implementation researchers have made notable progress in developing and testing implementation strategies (i.e., highly-specified methods used to help providers improve uptake of mental health evidence-based practices: EBPs). Yet, implementation strategies are not widely applied in healthcare organizations to improve delivery of EBPs. Economic considerations are a key factor influencing the use of implementation strategies to deliver and sustain mental health evidence-based practices, in part because many health care leaders are reluctant to invest in ongoing implementation strategy support wi

Testing implementation support for evidence-based programs in community settings: a replication cluster-randomized trial of Getting To Outcomes®.

BACKGROUND: Community organizations can have difficulty implementing evidence-based prevention programs. More research is needed on implementation support interventions designed to help these organizations implement programs with quality. METHODS: Preparing to Run Effective Programs (PREP) is a randomized controlled trial testing Getting To Outcomes (GTO), a 2-year implementation support intervention. It compares 15 Boys and Girls Club sites implementing CHOICE (control group), a five-session evidence-based alcohol and drug prevention program, with 14 similar sites implementing CHOICE support

Research opportunities to advance cardiovascular health through a planetary health lens.

Cardiovascular health (CVH) across the life course requires stable, nurturing environments and a healthy planet. Increasing human demands on the earth's resources destabilize our world's ecosystems, compromising CVH. Unique research opportunities for cardiovascular researchers exist at the intersection of planetary and CVH. Using systems thinking can reveal cardiovascular and planetary health connections and mechanisms of action. For example, meeting global demands for water, food and energy threatens food, water and air quality at the local level, and with it, cardiovascular health. A refined

[The relationship among a portable gas chromatography, organoleptic method and portable sulfide detector to diagnose halitosis].

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools for clinical education and health research are increasingly easy to imagine and prototype, but deploying internally developed tools into legitimate institutional use remains difficult. We conducted a retrospective comparative case study of four AI tools supported by the Nursing AI Studio in one academic health and social sciences environment. The four tools each was designed to address one of the following: clinical evaluation, tailored caregiver support, clinical simulation, and statistical assistance for biomedical and social-behavioral data. We operational

[Orthorexia nervosa and it's background factors].

The place of orthorexia nervosa (ON)--described by Bratman in 1997--is not clearly defined in the diagnostic systems. However, the increasing number of clinical experiences and research data gives us more and more information about the epidemiology, and the social and individual characteristics of ON. The general population shows a 6.9% prevalence of ON; healthcare professionals are at high risk of ON with the prevalence rate of 35-57.6%. Education, the choice of profession, socioeconomic status and the internalization of the ideals of society are significant factors in the development of ON,

Rethinking reciprocity.

Reciprocity theory holds a hallowed status in evolutionary social sciences because it provides a way to explain cooperation among unrelated individuals. Theorists have developed a large body of mathematical work based on the iterated prisoner's dilemma game that explores which strategies are evolutionarily stable in a range of conditions, including scenarios involving behavioral errors. However, there is a mismatch between the vigorous pace of theoretical research and the trickle of empirical studies that have tested predictions generated by the theoretical work. Furthermore, findings from the

Quantification of behavioral data with effect sizes and statistical significance tests.

This article describes the use of statistical significance tests and distance-based effect sizes with behavioral data from single case experimental designs (SCEDs). Such data often are interpreted only with visual analysis. However, a growing movement in the field is to quantify results to improve decision-making and communication across studies and sciences. The goal of the present study was to assess the agreement between visual analysis and various statistical tests. We recruited visual analysts to judge 160 pairwise data sets from published articles and compared these analyses to significa

From Bacillus Criminalis to the Legalome: Will Neuromicrobiology Impact 21st Century Criminal Justice?

The idea that gut microbes or a "bacillus of crime" might promote criminal behavior was popularized in the early 20th century. Today, advances in neuromicrobiology and related omics technologies are lending credibility to the idea. In recent cases of dismissal of driving while intoxicated charges, courts in the United States and Europe have acknowledged that gut microbes can manufacture significant amounts of systemically available ethanol, without a defendant's awareness. Indeed, emergent research is raising difficult questions for criminal justice systems that depend on prescientific notions

Can Food Acquisition Priority Alter Emotion, Physiological Responses, and Social Rank in Fish?

Whether non-human animals can perceive and respond to inequitable resource distribution has become a prominent topic in behavioral and cognitive sciences. Fish possess notable cognitive capacities and display physiological and behavioral indicators of "emotion-like states" under stress, pain, or adverse conditions. However, it remains unclear whether fish can perceive inequitable resource allocation and exhibit emotion-related physiological and behavioral responses. Here, we investigated this question in a group-living cichlid, Chindongo demasoni, by manipulating the feeding order to create in

Sound hypersensitivity phenotypes and sound hypersensitivity disorder.

This paper proposes an overarching definition for sound hypersensitivity, a common symptom frequently observed in patients with hearing loss … hypersensitivity and separating them from tinnitus, and represent a paradigm shift in auditory and behavioral sciences. Adopting a global and multidisciplinary lens, we aim to spark a debate fostering collaboration and innovation in addressing this pervasive yet underappreciated condition involving auditory, behavioral and cognitive neurosciences.
