Detection of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) RNA in the sweat of HIV-infected patients.

OBJECTIVE: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is a significant health problem. Many studies reported that HIV was mainly transmitted through parenteral exposure, sexual activity, and body secretions, such as saliva and semen. Many people, including health-care providers and patient relatives, may easily contact with the sweat of HIV-infected patients. Although reference books assert that HIV does not transmit through sweat, to our knowledge, there is no systemic study which this statement is based upon. This study aims to investigate the potential of sweat to transmit HIV infection.

Brain Structural Connectivity and Morphological Awareness Mediate the Association Between Home Literacy Environment and Reading Outcomes in Children With Family History of Reading Difficulties.

Previous studies have shown that higher socioeconomic status (SES) and richer home literacy environment (HLE) are associated with better reading outcomes in children with family risk for reading difficulties (RD). Yet, the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying this association remain understudied. This study sought to fill in the gap using both behavioral and neuroimaging methodologies. Eighty-one native Mandarin-speaking children (age = 8.7-12.0 years) and their parents were recruited. Family history (FH) of RD and home environmental factors (SES and HLE) were collected, as well as child

Exploring the Applications of Explainability in Wearable Data Analytics: Systematic Literature Review.

BACKGROUND: Wearable technologies have become increasingly prominent in health care. However, intricate machine learning and deep learning algorithms often lead to the development of "black box" models, which lack transparency and comprehensibility for medical professionals and end users. In this context, the integration of explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) has emerged as a crucial solution. By providing insights into the inner workings of complex algorithms, XAI aims to foster trust and empower stakeholders to use wearable technologies responsibly. OBJECTIVE: This paper aims to revie

Using co-design methods to develop new personalised support for people living with Long Covid: The 'LISTEN' intervention.

INTRODUCTION: Many Covid-19 survivors are living with unresolved, relapsing and remitting symptoms and no 'one size' of treatment is likely to be effective for everyone. Supported self-management for the varied symptoms of Long Covid (LC) is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence in the United Kingdom. We aimed to develop a new personalised support intervention for people living with LC using a structured co-design framework to guide replication and evaluation. METHODS: We used the improvement methodology, Experience-Based Co-Design, in an accelerated form to har

The prospective associations of 24-hour movement behaviors and domain-specific activities with executive function and academic achievement among school-aged children in Singapore.

BACKGROUND: Physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior (SB), and sleep are collectively referred to as 24-h movement behaviors, which may be linked to cognitive development in children. However, most of the evidence was based on cross-sectional studies and/or solely relied on parent-reported information on children's behaviors, and it remains uncertain whether all domains/contexts of PA and SB are similarly associated with executive function and academic achievement. OBJECTIVE: We investigated the prospective associations of accelerometer-measured 24 h-movement behaviors and domain-specific P

A case series of fluoroscopy-guided neurolytic splanchnic nerve block for chronic pancreatitis pain.

CONTEXT: Splanchnic nerve block (SPN) with local anesthetic and steroid is used to relieve the pain of chronic pancreatitis. However, it does not provide long-lasting relief. We hypothesize that the use of 70% alcohol will give adequate analgesia for more than months. AIMS: The primary objective was to find out the analgesic efficacy of the use of 70% alcohol with SPN. Secondary objectives included the incidence of side effects, analgesic consumption postintervention, quality of life (QOL) assessed via a self-reported quality of life scale, and repeat block during the 1-year follow-up period.

Small mammals from the Caatinga: A dataset for the Brazilian semiarid biome.

The Caatinga is an exclusively Brazilian biome, and is the largest and most biodiverse Seasonal Tropical Dry Forest in the world. Despite that, the mammalian fauna, especially small mammals, is the least studied of all Brazilian biomes. In order to fill gaps and provide detailed information on small mammals (Didelphimorphia, Rodentia) in the Caatinga biome, we compiled reliable records focusing on richness, composition and some biometric data. These records came from mammal collections, papers, theses, books, and unpublished data, prioritizing records with vouchers housed in scientific collect
