Oesophagitis developed in 4 patients, 3 of whom had scoliosis braces and 1 a body cast after surgery for kyphoscoliosis. Symptoms varied from chronic epigastric pain to gastrointestinal haemorrhage. Prophylaxis of oesophageal disease in children undergoing correction of scoliosis may prevent severe oesophagitis.

OBJECTIVES: To compare radiographic and clinical outcomes in nonoperative management of humeral shaft fractures treated initially with coaptation splinting (CS) followed by delayed functional bracing (FB) versus treatment with immediate FB.
DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study.

PATIENT SELECTION CRITERIA: Patients with closed humeral shaft fractures managed nonoperatively with initial CS followed by delayed FB or with immediate FB from 2016 to 2022. Patients younger than 18 years and/or with less than 3 months of follow-up were excluded.

The oral health-related quality of life in adults undergoing orthodontic treatment with ceramic braces versus aligners is of interest. A total of 200 adult patients were recruited, with 100 patients each undergoing treatment with ceramic braces or aligners. Both ceramic braces and aligners positively affect OHRQoL. However, aligners generally provide a more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing experience for adult patients.
