Because of unexplained mortality among 33 sibling offspring of a single pair of dogs, a family of Jack Russell Terriers was investigated. Twelve pups, 5 male and 7 female, died between 8 and 14 weeks of age. Six of those animals died in the field within 50 hours following vaccination with modified live vaccines. Subsequent histopathologic examination revealed the absence of splenic white pulp in 4 dogs and hepatic inclusions diagnostic for adenoviral infection in 2 dogs. PROBLEM: The maternal local immune responses in unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) are not yet well known. Maternal peripheral and decidual natural killer (NK) cells were evaluated in RSA with normal chromosomal content.
METHOD OF STUDY: Maternal peripheral blood, villous trophoblast, and decidua were taken from 15 normal pregnancies and 9 RSA patients with normal chromosomes. The NK cells in decidual lymphocytes were evaluated by flow cytometry using monoclonal antibodies for CD56, CD16, and CD3.

Although cadmium (Cd) is a widespread environmental contaminant and human carcinogen, our studies indicate an organic Cd complex to be a pot … ntal conditions. Our results indicate that MCF10A cells are much less sensitive to the Cd1, Cd2 and Cd3 complexes when compared to MDA MB 231 breast cancer cells. Therefore, our study suggests that these Cd organic complexes are capable of inhibiting tumor cellular proteasome activity and consequently induce cancer cell-specific apoptotic death.

The capacity of human T4 cells stimulated by immobilized monoclonal antibodies to the CD3 molecular complex (64.1 and OKT3) to induce and regulate B cell responsiveness was examined. T4 cells stimulated by low concentrations of immobilized 64.1 (3.0 ng/well) and all concentrations of immobilized OKT3 supported B cell proliferation and differentiation.
