OBJECTIVES: In this study we compared silver nitrate cautery with placebo to assess the effect of silver nitrate cautery in aphthous stomatitis for pain relief and healing time.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this study, sixty-five patients with aphthous stomatitis were assessed. Silver nitrate sticks were used in group A (treatment group) and placebo sticks were used for group B (control group). PURPOSE: To describe a clinical case of an orbital paraganglioma that displayed regression after biopsy alone.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: A 75-year-old female was examined for a right orbital tumor suspected to be metastatic breast carcinoma. An orbital biopsy was performed with significant hemorrhage encountered requiring extensive cautery. There was apparent clinical regression of the tumor with no signs of proptosis or eye movement restriction two years after this patient's biopsy. For decades, there has been debate about the cause of ingrown nail: is the nail plate or the periungual tissue at fault? There is no consens … they are properly performed. As with all surgical procedures, they are operator-dependent. Chemical cautery is the easiest and most versatile technique that may help in almost all instances for lateral ingrowth. For distal ingrowth and very hypertrophic and exuberant lateral folds, debulking with primary or secondary healing is most effective.
