Ciliated epithelium in a midgut enteric duplication: a case report.

We report the case of a 7-year-old male child with a cystic tumour attached to the caecum close to the ileocaecal valve. The histological examination showed that the cyst had a ciliated epithelial lining, containing serous and mucous glands, with surrounding smooth muscle, inner circular and outer longitudinal layers. The cyst was interpreted as an intestinal duplication lined with respiratory epithelium. This structure and its location, originating from the midgut, is not in accordance with the typical conception of the embryogenesis. The clinical picture and treatment are described and compa

Spontaneous clostridial myonecrosis.

Spontaneous, nontraumatic clostridial myonecrosis is a rare infection with an insidious onset and usually fatal outcome. Spontaneous clostridial myonecrosis has a frequent association with colon carcinoma, leukemia, diabetes mellitus, and drug-induced immunosuppression. We present the case of a 73-year-old diabetic man who died of spontaneous Clostridium septicum myonecrosis, who had presented with fulminant gangrene of the right thigh. Clostridium septicum was cultured from the quadriceps muscle postmortem. At autopsy, in addition to the gangrene, there was a Duke's A adenocarcinoma of the ce

[Cecal pseudotumoral endometriosis: a rare cause of massive lower digestive hemorrhage. A clinical case].

A 45 year old female, with massive intestinal bleeding was subjected to barium enema disclosing a large lobulated mass in the caecum. A right hemicolectomy was performed. Gross pathological examination showed an infiltrative lesion of the caecum with superficial mucosal ulcerations. Histologically the cecal wall was studded with endometrial implants penetrating to the submucosal layer. No invasion of the mucosa was demonstrated. Recovery was uneventful. After 1 year of follow up the patient remain asymptomatic.

The first case of laparoscopic surgery for cecal cancer occurring in a blind loop.

Cancer occurrence in a blind loop is extremely rare. An 86-year-old Japanese woman underwent colonoscopy for tarry stools and weight loss; it revealed a bypass of the transverse colon and small intestine, cecal cancer, and a polyp. She had suffered from acute appendicitis and had undergone two surgeries at age 25: an appendectomy and then a bypass surgery between the transverse colon and the small intestine. We performed a laparoscopy-assisted ileocecal resection for the cancer and polyp in the blind loop with an end-to-side instrumental anastomosis. The pathological examination demonstrated t

Adult cecoanal intussusception caused by cecum cancer: report of a case.

We report a case of cecoanal intussusception caused by cecum cancer in a 29-year-old woman. The patient presented to our hospital with a mass protruding from the anus. We manually pushed the mass back into the rectum and performed a gastrograffin enema, which showed a cup-shaped filling defect in the rectum. The defect was moved back to oral side with the pressure of the enema, revealing a tumor originating in the cecum. Colonoscopy showed a protrusion, 5 x 3 cm in size, in the cecum. Laparotomy confirmed that the tumor originated at the bottom of the appendix in the cecum. We performed partia

Adult intussusception due to lymphangioma of the colon.

We present herein a case report of adult intussusception due to lymphangioma of the colon. On May 27, 2000, a 39-year-old woman with right lower abdominal pain was admitted to our hospital. Preoperative imaging studies, by ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT), and barium enema examination, showed right colon intussusception with a multilocular cystic tumor as a leading point. Emergency operation was performed. During the operation, normograde ileocecal intussusception with a 9 x 6-cm soft submucosal tumor of the cecum was recognized. Ileocecal resection was performed, and the patient's po

Minimal change nephrotic syndrome with cecum adenocarcinoma.

Membranous glomerulonephritis is the most common glomerular disease associated with malignancy, the association of minimal change glomerulopathy with solid tumor is still uncommon. We report a 72-year-old man with nephrotic syndrome due to minimal change glomerular disease; an accurate seek of underlying malignancy revealed a cecum adenocarcinoma. We had a complete remission of nephrotic syndrome after surgery of carcinoma.

[Tumor-induced colonic invagination in adults].

The artickle describes a case of intussusception of colon in a 72 year-old woman. It was diagnosed by laparotomi. Intestinal intussusception is a rarity in adults, and is usually difficult to diagnose. The history often runs over a long period, sometimes more than a year. The most important symptom is intermittant abdominal pain, often accompanied by abdominal tumor and hematochezia. The etiology is usually an intestinal tumor. Intussusception of colon is usually associated with a primary malignant tumor. There is some controversy about the correct surgical management. Intussusception of colon

Colloid adenocarcinoma of the caecum in a 13-year-old. A case report.

A 13-year-old Coloured girl presented with an abdominal mass and a small-bowel obstruction. At operation a constricting carcinoma of the caecum which had spread to the regional lymph nodes was found. Histological examination revealed that it was a mucinous adenocarcinoma.

Low-Grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasm Presenting as an Appendiceal Mucocele: A Case Report.

Appendiceal mucocele is an uncommon clinical and radiological finding characterized by cystic dilatation of the appendix due to intraluminal mucin accumulation and may be associated with underlying epithelial mucinous neoplasms. We present the case of a 45-year-old man with obesity who presented with a four-month history of intermittent right-lower-quadrant abdominal pain, occasional abdominal distension, and nonspecific changes in bowel habits. Physical examination revealed localized tenderness without signs of peritoneal irritation, and laboratory findings were within normal limits. Abdomina

Appendiceal intussusception requiring an ileocecectomy: a case report and comment on the optimal surgery.

BACKGROUND: Appendiceal intussusception is very rare condition with an estimated incidence of 0.01%. Therefore, it is likely to be overlooked. In addition, making the diagnosis before or during surgery is very difficult. CASE PRESENTATION: A 60-year-old male who was referred to our gastroenterology center with cecal inflammation found during a colonoscopy. An abdominal computed tomography (CT) following endoscopy revealed a 5 × 2.5 × 4 cm mass-like lesion in the cecum around the ileocolic (IC) valve and appendiceal orifice. The main lesion seemed to be an inflammatory mass rather than a malig

Ascending colon cecal junction carcinoma with prostate metastasis: A case report and literature review.

RATIONALE: Colon carcinoma is the most common type of cancer, and a leading cause of cancer-related death. Clinically, the most common sites of metastases from colon carcinoma are the liver, lungs, peritoneum, and lymph nodes, while the incidence of metastases to the prostate is low. There are few relevant studies on colon carcinoma, most of them being case reports. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 76-year-old man treated with radical resection of right colon carcinoma due to primary poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of the cecum. Postoperative pathological examination suggested that he had cancer at t

Schwannoma of the colon and rectum: a systematic literature review.

BACKGROUND: Schwannomas of the colon and rectum are rare among gastrointestinal schwannomas. They are usually discovered incidentally as a submucosal mass on routine colonoscopy and diagnosed on pathologic examination of the operative specimen. Little information exists on the diagnosis and management of this rare entity. The aim of this study is to report a case of cecal schwannoma and the results of a systematic review of colorectal schwannoma in the literature. MAIN BODY: PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane database searches were performed for case reports and case series of colonic and rectal sc
