[Unusual causes of the carpal tunnel syndrome].

In 193 cases of carpal tunnel exploration, carried out because of compression of the medium nerve, we have encountered 15 unusual findings (7.8%). This emphasizes the necessity for thorough exploration of the carpal tunnel. Four unusual disease processes are described, which led to a median compression syndrome: Tuberculous tenosynovitis, lipomatous hyperplasia, chondroma of a superficial flexor tendon and monofascicular neurinoma of the median nerve.

[Tumors of the footbones- a report from the Hamburg Bone Tumor Registry].

Aim of the present study was a systematic examination of the tumors of the foot registered in the Hamburg Bone Tumor Registry regarding age, … lcaneus were mainly cartilaginous. Besides chondroblastoma, chondrosarcoma was regularly diagnosed. Chondroma was extremely rare at this site. Contrary to that chondroma was regularly found at the metatarsal and phalangeal bones, it was 4 times more common than chondrosarcoma. An even distribution showed aneurysmal bone cysts and osteoidosteoma. Very rare l …

CT diagnosis of laryngeal cricoid chondrosarcoma.

Computerized tomography is the imaging method of choice for evaluation of neoplastic involvement of the larynx. There are unusual primary neoplasms of the larynx which include chondroma and chondrosarcoma. These lesions may cause vocal cord paralysis and respiratory symptoms secondary to compression of the recurrent laryngeal nerve. We present a single patient with computerized tomographic imaging of laryngeal chondrosarcoma resulting in unilateral vocal cord paralysis and hoarseness.

Chondromatosis of the choroid plexus: case report.

We report the case of a patient with successful total removal of a previously undescribed intracranial tumor arising in the right lateral ventricle (probably of metaplastic origin). The histopathological examination revealed benign chondromatosis of the choroid plexus. The pathogenesis of this lesion, with special reference to synovial chondromatosis and to the differential diagnosis of solid neoplastic chondromas, their clinical features, and computed tomographic and magnetic resonance imaging findings, is presented and discussed.

An unusual case of complete Carney's triad in a 14-year-old boy.

Carney's triad represents the association of gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumor, pulmonary chondroma, and extraadrenal paraganglioma. Only 79 cases of this rare condition have been described. Here, the authors describe the unusual case of a 14-year-old boy who presented with a complete Carney's triad. This is only the second reported case in the world literature of a patient manifesting a complete Carney's triad at presentation. The management of each tumor is discussed.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor in Carney's triad with laparoscopic total gastrectomy: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Carney's triad is a rare syndrome characterized by the co-occurrence of gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), pulmonary chondroma, and extra-adrenal paraganglioma. We present a case of a young woman with GISTs associated with this triad. CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old woman was identified with multiple gastric tumors and a right lung nodule during a routine health check-up. CT scans and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a 50 mm mass on the lesser curvature of the stomach, along with two additional gastric lesions and a 20 mm nodule in the right lung. The patie…

Giant Solitary Synovial Osteochondroma of the Subtalar Joint.

A rapidly progressing calcified mass was found in the left sinus tarsi in a 12-year-old female after a trivial ankle sprain. The lesion mimicked an aggressive lesion clinically and radiographically. Ultrasound-guided biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of a synovial chondroma. Excision of the tumor and partial synovectomy were performed. The histologic diagnosis was a solitary synovial osteochondroma. The condition had not recurred after a follow-up period of 12 months.

Chondrosarcoma of the chest wall with Ollier's disease.

A 15 x 15 cm mass in the right hemithorax of a 25-year-old woman was incidentally detected at routine chest radiography. Radical excision of the bony chest wall, including right CII-VI, revealed chondrosarcoma. Large, expansile parosteal chondromas were radiographically visualized in the pelvis and bones of the lower leg, representing Ollier's disease. Chondrosarcoma of the chest wall appears to be rare in Ollier's disease.

Calcified Chondroid Mesenchymal Neoplasms.

Calcified chondroid mesenchymal neoplasms (CCMN) represent a morphologic spectrum of related tumors. Historically, chondroid matrix or chondroblastoma-like features have been described in soft tissue chondroma, tenosynovial giant cell tumors (especially of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) region), and in a subset of tophaceous pseudogout. Recently, these tumors have been found to share FN1-receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) fusions. This review discusses the clinical, morphologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular genetic features of CCMN. The distinction from morphologic mimics is also discusse…

[Association of ovarian juvenile granulosa cell tumor with Maffucci's syndrome].

The authors report a rare case of the ovarian juvenile granulosa cell tumor associated with Maffucci's syndrome (enchondromathosis + hemangiomas), no heriditary mesodermal dysplasia. Sarcomatous changes of chondromas are encountered most frequently; however other various typed neoplasma have been reported: ovarian juvenile granulosa cell tumor may occur not infrequently in female patients with Maffucci's syndrome in the first or second decades. Sarcomatous changes of choromas established prognosis of the Maffucci's syndrome.

[Tumor of the Parotid Gland].

Salivary gland tumors are a rare, histologically heterogeneous group of tumors which constitute approximately 4–6 % of all head and neck neoplasms. In 2/3 of cases they are benign, especially in the parotid gland. We report about a rare tumor of the parotid gland presenting as an extraskeletal chondroma. Histologically there were multiple S 100 protein-positive nests of chondrocytes. The externally completed cytology suspected a pleomorphic adenoma, nevertheless, the final histopathological findings showed another tumor entity.

Thymoma with osseous metaplasia in an adolescent.

A 13-year-old girl was incidentally found to have a partially calcified anterior mediastinal mass during the work-up for a left humeral lesion. The resected specimen demonstrated a lymphocyte predominant World Health Organization type B1 thymoma with nodules of metaplastic bone consistent with osseous metaplasia. In addition, she had multiple osteochondromas, a periosteal chondroma of the humerus, a metaplastic osseous pseudotumor of the thigh, and other benign-appearing sclerotic foci, all manifestations of what is likely an autosomal dominant disorder.

Benign and malignant cartilage tumors of bone and joint: their anatomic and theoretical basis with an emphasis on radiology, pathology and clinical biology. I. The intramedullary cartilage tumors.

We reviewed 845 cases of benign and 356 cases of malignant cartilaginous tumors from a total of 3067 primary bone tumors in our database. Benign cartilaginous lesions are unique because the epiphyseal plate has been implicated in the etiology of osteochondroma, enchondroma (single or multiple), periosteal chondromas and chondroblastoma. In the first part of this paper, we will review important clinical, radiologic and histologic features of intramedullary cartilaginous lesions in an attempt to support theories related to anatomic considerations and pathogenesis.
