Age is a major risk factor for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and age has a role in the disease phenotypes of heritable macular dystrophies. The proteomes of C57Bl6/J mouse choroids at 2 ages were analyzed to identify biochemical processes affected by aging. Proteins of interest were identified as those contributing most to the variance in principal component analysis and those showing the largest significant differences between ages. These proteins implicated altered ECM composition, immune system function, and lipid metabolism.

In this article, we review the available literature about the functions of the choroid plexus (ChP), including its basic role in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) secretion, renewal and absorption. We discuss more recently described, lesser-known functions of the ChP, such as its role in circadian rhythm regulation, chemical and immune surveillance and functional implications of ChP disruption, as occurs in neurodegenerative disorders.

A 14 year old girl presented with a 6 months' history of headache with vomiting, ataxia and cerebellar signs. CT and MRI revealed obstructive hydrocephalus secondary to a large fourth ventricular mass which enhanced markedly on contrast administration. Histopathology of the resected mass revealed papillary structures lined by cuboidal cells confirming choroid plexus papilloma.

The cerebellopontine angle (CPA) is a rare site for the growth of choroid plexus papilloma (CPP). The clinicoradiological diagnosis of this tumor in the CPA is difficult because of the nonspecific clinical presentation and radiological features. Gyrate atrophy of the choroid and retina is characterized by autosomal recessive inheritance, progressive chorioretinal atrophy beginning in late childhood, and hyperornithinemia with ornithinuria caused by deficient ornithine aminotransferase activity.
