Promotion of Dentin Biomimetic Mineralization and Bonding Efficacy by Interfacial Control of an Experimental Citric Acid Dental Etching Agent.

Resin-bonded restorations are the most important caries treatment method in clinical practice. Thus, improving the durability of dentin bonding remains a pressing issue. As a promising solution, guided tissue remineralization can induce the formation of apatite nanocrystals to repair defects in the dentin bonding interface. In this study, we present an experimental 20 wt % citric acid (CA) dental etching agent that removes the smear layer. After CA-etching, approximately 3.55 wt % residual CA formed a strong bond with collagen fibrils, reducing the interfacial energy between the remineralizing

Polycaprolactone microcapsules containing citric acid and naringin for plant growth and sustainable agriculture: physico-chemical properties and release behavior.

Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) is an alternative to chemical fertilizers for sustainable, environment friendly agriculture. There is a need to develop strategies to potentiate the interaction between rhizobacteria and plants. Flavonoids and organic acids (components of root exudates) play specific beneficial roles as carbon sources and signal molecules in the plant - rhizobacteria interactions. The goal of this work is to encapsulate signal molecules, namely citric acid and naringin, an organic acid and a flavonoid, respectively, by a biodegradable polymer, polycaprolactone (PCL),

The Combined Effects of Citric Acid and Ammonium Nitrate on the Phytoremediation of Cd-Phenanthrene Co-Contaminated Soil Using Marigold.

Citric acid (CA) and nitrogen (N) fertilizers have been widely applied to enhance phytoremediation of various contaminated soils, yet their combined effects and underlying mechanisms in cadmium (Cd)-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) co-contaminated systems remain poorly understood. Here, we investigated the combined effects of CA and ammonium nitrate on the phytoremediation of Cd-phenanthrene (Phe) co-contaminated soil using marigold (Tagetes patula L.), with random forest, mantel tests, and structural equation modeling employed to explore hypothesized pathways and associations. The result

Antihypertensive and Vasorelaxant Effects of Citric Acid and Lemon Juice in Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats: In Vivo and Ex Vivo Studies.

Hypertension is a key risk factor for heart, brain, and kidney disease development. Fruit consumption has been associated with a decrease in blood pressure. Lemon juice, which contains antihypertensive compounds, may exert antihypertensive effects. However, no research has verified the antihypertensive effects of citric acid, the most abundant ingredient in lemon juice. In the present study, we demonstrated the antihypertensive effects of citric acid and lemon juice by performing single oral administration tests and the aortic ring assay using spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Single ora

Similarities and differences between "proactive" and "passive" stress-coping rats in responses to sucrose, NaCl, citric acid, and quinine.

A stress-coping style describes a set of behavioral and physiological measures that characterize an individual's response to stressful stimuli. It would follow that different stress-coping styles are associated with differential sensitivity for taste stimuli. Animals with stress-coping characteristics better suited to an environment in which new foods are more frequently encountered may show enhanced orosensitivity to cues that signal toxins and/or nutritional value. Here, rats were categorized as "proactive" or "passive" based on results from a defensive burying test. Next, the brief-access t

Reaction between drug substances and pharmaceutical excipients: formation of citric acid esters and amides of carvedilol in the solid state.

The reactivity of citric acid towards drug substances in the solid state was examined using the beta-blocker carvedilol as a model compound. The reaction mixtures were analysed by LC-MS, the reaction products were isolated by preparative HPLC, and the structures were elucidated by microprobe NMR spectroscopy. Heating a mixture of solid carvedilol and solid citric acid monohydrate for 96 h at 50 degrees C resulted in the formation of about 3% of a symmetrical ester as well as of a number of other reaction products in smaller amounts. Formation of the symmetrical ester was also observed at room

Synergistic bactericidal effect of hot water with citric acid against Escherichia coli O157:H7 biofilm formed on stainless steel.

This study investigated the antimicrobial effect of hot water with citric acid against Escherichia coli O157:H7 biofilm on stainless steel (SS). Hot water (50, 60, or 70 °C) with 2% citric acid exhibited a synergistic bactericidal effect on the pathogen biofilm. It was revealed that hot water and citric acid combination induced sub-lethally injured cells. Additionally, mechanisms of the synergistic bactericidal effects of hot water with citric acid were identified through several approaches. In terms of biofilm matrix, hot water removes exopolysaccharides, a major component of extracellular po

A self-matching antibacterial coating of nano-copper oxide@dealkaline lignin/citric acid with reusable on-demand antibacterial interface protection.

The adhesion and proliferation of bacteria on object surfaces can lead to grain waste and health risks. Lignin, as a byproduct of the papermaking and biorefining industries, exhibits significant potential for the development of sustainable materials. In this paper, we utilize dealkaline lignin to green-regulate the morphology of nano‑copper oxide, enhancing its dispersion and stability, with the aim of developing a novel green antibacterial coating. On the one hand, the dealkaline lignin forms an organic protective layer on the surface of CuO NPs, effectively promoting the dispersion and stabi
