Reduction of Inflammatory and Noninflammatory Lesions with Topical Tyrothricin 0.1% in the Treatment of Mild to Severe Acne Papulopustulosa: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Antibiotic-induced drug resistance requires new approaches in topical acne treatment. Tyrothricin is known to produce no resistance. In this study, it was tested for the first time in topical acne treatment. The efficacy and tolerability of topical tyrothricin 0.1% was evaluated. METHODS: A randomized, active comparator-controlled, exploratory, observer-blind clinical study was conducted in 24 patients with acne papulopustulosa. Randomization on a split-face was either tyrothricin versus clindamycin + benzoyl peroxide (BPO) (n = 12) or tyrothricin versus BPO 5% (n = 12). The

A randomized, double-blind, clinical trial of topical clotrimazole versus miconazole for treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia.

The parenteral treatment currently available for cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is painful and potentially exposes patients to serious side effects. Thus, effective, topical therapy would be valuable. We assessed the efficacy of topical 1% clotrimazole and 2% miconazole creams in relation to early healing of lesions in CL in a randomized, double-blind clinical trial in 54 patients with 151 lesions treated for 30 consecutive days. Response to treatment was assessed at two weeks and 30 days and classified as fully healed, size reduced, no change, and size increased or worse. Of 89 lesions treated

The efficacy and safety of topical wound oxygen therapy for chronic refractory wounds at high altitude: Protocol for a randomized controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: The hypobaric and hypoxic characteristic of plateau regions can lead to sustained hypoxia, inadequate tissue perfusion, and an inflammatory response at wounds sites. Topical wound oxygen therapy (TOT) shows potential in elevating transcutaneous oxygen tension, stimulating the production of vascular endothelial growth factor, promoting angiogenesis and tissue remodeling, thereby accelerating wound healing. However, there is a scarcity of research investigating the therapeutic efficacy of TOT for treating chronic refractory wounds in long-term inhabitants of plateau areas. The presen

Self-applied topical interventions for melasma: a systematic review and meta-analysis of data from randomized, investigator-blinded clinical trials.

BACKGROUND: Melasma is a common dermatological condition. Although its relevance as a skin condition is primarily of a cosmetic nature, it may affect the patient's wellbeing and quality of life. A broad range of treatment options is available, which makes it difficult to choose the most appropriate of those treatments. OBJECTIVES: To summarize and critically appraise evidence from investigator-blinded randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the efficacy and safety of self-applied topical interventions for melasma. METHODS: We systematically searched MEDLINE and the Cochrane CENTRAL trials dat

Role of topical spironolactone in the treatment of acne: A systematic review of clinical trials-Does this therapy open a path towards favorable outcomes?

Acne vulgaris is the eighth most common disease worldwide and presents with inflammatory and noninflammatory skin lesions along with other dermal abnormalities. Oral spironolactone is used for treating acne vulgaris due to its antiandrogenic properties and inhibition of sebogenesis. Recent evidence shows that spironolactone in topical form has similar efficacy to its oral form with comparatively fewer adverse events associated with its use. However, to establish an evidence-based understanding, this systematic review aims to investigate the efficacy and safety of topical spironolactone in the
